  1. 1 powder board, My current is an Oxy SuperX 164. 1 all mountain board for running around with my soft boot buddies. The Hot Special 162. This covers moguls, slop, glop, 4" fresh, trees, off/on piste, just about everywhere on the mountain Long/race board for going fast on near perfect days. Oxy Proton. But why do I have 6 boards?? Rock board. Its my Old 162 Hot Shine. getting a bit worn, but still not bad. Nitro GT 160, well it was cheap and I wanted to try it out. My 172 or what ever length I have in the back there. Well I keep hearing that long boards are the way to go, so I'm experimenting with a bigger board. oh yeah, the 170 Limited, oxygen, its for sale.

  7. Up for sale is a barely used 2000 vintage Oxygen limited 170. Bought this board hurt my knee, never really got to riding this board. Its been ridden maybe 5-8 times by two different riders, so it has lots of ride time left. The base is good, has the normal handling scuffs, no base damage, never had a repair. The edges could use to be sharpened though. It has some wax on it. The top sheet is in pretty good shape a few scuffs and scrapes on the edges from riding the lifts. Two binding marks (circles). I have cardboard, to ship this in so it will be wrapped nice. $200 plus shipping. Did you start your snowboard/ski workout yet?? Time to get ready for the new season!!
  8. Knee surgery in October. Microfracture repair. Look it up in wikipedia. So I telemark skied (1st time in about 4 years),well 4 hours, at Heavenly with my snowboarding buddy john, and then I got 3 hours alpine boarding in at Alpine meadows on their last day. It was snowing and the lightening forced a lift closure, end of season. Minimal pain after each day. BUT I GOT 2 F****** DAYS IN THIS SEASON!!! 47 y/o and I'm not done yet.
  9. I bought some HEAD (I think that's right) Gloves at Costco about 2 seasons ago, AWESOME, really warm and dry, and cheap. The down side is you have to wait until they stock them, which won't be till fall. I have Raynaud’s Disease so my hands are really susceptible to cold and wet. So I look for good gloves. The best ones I have are Wool liners in any good water proof shell glove (or mitten), My Head Gloves. my old Montbell 3 piece gloves. My Marmot glove leak, other gloves don't have good liners. Leather - NO gets wet, transfers the water into the glove. Stick with the nylons, synthetics. You can always Duct Tape the palms.

  11. I've thought about this, and I've been asked about it, and my answer is exactly what Fin started with. The lower body and the board make a pretty strong triangle (the strongest basic shape for structures). Now the knees and the hips introduce some weak joints that could fail in twisting motions, but in general I believe that the boots solidly mounted to the board are the best defense against injury. With that said, I injured my rear (left) knee skiing 20 years ago. I have re-injured it (twisting) twice while snowboarding. But those were not induced by the binding and only one might have been averted by a release binding, maybe. I have also come completely out of the rear binding of Burton race plates. Moving fast at the bottom of the run (backside at N*), rain/wet snow at the bottom of the hill, I went out right slightly onto un-skied flat snow and must have suctioned the board into the snow. The board stopped and I pounded my head in the ground about 15 feet forward. I got lucky, as the board, on my front foot, came with me, only a headache (Stars!). It could have been much worse twisting the front leg on the exit or spinning and twisting the knee up. And that's the fall that I think would be seen more if there were release-able bindings, cause one binding failed to release at the same time (nearly the same time). Get some snow, ice, other FOD into the mechanism, not enough lubrication, bad adjustment all recipes for massive knee and leg injuries. This is a really good example of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", and KISS (keep it simple stupid).

  14. Sprained my ankles telemark skiing (leather boots) Right one one year, left one the next year. Followed the docs orders on the right I was back on a bike in 4 weeks and skiing in about 10. For the left ankle I was on a stationary bike the day after I sprained it. Skiing 2 weeks later (leather boots). If you can do nothing else do this: As hot water as you can stand in a bucket or tub (turn on full hot), fsoak your ankle for 10 min, then 10 min into a bucket of ICE water. Repeat 3-4 times. walk normally every were you go. You can do this on your vacation too. BUt if you can: Stationary bike, 1st day spin with very light loads. 30-60min. ICE it good for 30 min. 2nd day normal loading on the bike for 1 hour, ICE for 30 min, You'll be fine
  15. For Sale a nice used Oxygen Limited 170, vintage 2001 or 2002. This board has been ridden about 5-10 days, by 2 different riders. Its in good shape with a fresh wax job. There are some minor scrapes on the top. There is one ding in the base that has been repaired, but overall the bottom is in great condition.   17. Advice on tree boarding: Don't hit the trees! Well that's kind of obivous, but you know, couldn't resist. OK, the best way is to just get in there and learn. Plenty of good advice in all the posts previous to me, so read those. but I'll add a few things. 1. Sounds like you have a good board there. but don't change the binding set up from what you ride on the groomers. I think binding set up really goes with the board and its characteristics, not the place you ride. I'll take my 164 Oxy Proton off in glades and trees with 60/58 binding angles, or my other boards (160 Nitro, 162 HOT SL) and I don't re-adjust just cause its not a groomed run. You have to be able to ride it anywhere, get the board setup to carve and then learn to drive everywhere else. 2. You have to start learning to think a little more ahead. This means you have to decide now mid way through turn A, where turn B is going to happen and continue to progress through the trees. When you stop thinking ahead of the forest, you'll know it and will start whacking things. 3. you'll learn a tail drop bail out stop pretty fast, specifically when your not thinking far enough ahead. If you get in trouble, stop, trying to save your self from a crash in the trees will likely end up with a broken rib or wrist. So stop, then just take a break and really catch your breath before restarting. 4. Someone mentioned practicing on moguls, excellent idea. You have to learn to turn really quickly and retain your balance on wildly varing slopes with narrow. This is rhythm, get your rhythm ahead of the mogul timing and your OK, fall behind and you crash. 5. End of day slush piles and ridges: try and ride the end of day slush ridges (go to the intermediate slopes or the main run down to the lodge). Use one fall line ridge and try and stay within about 5-8 feet of either side and learn to turn fast and again lead the rhythm. Pop turn over the top. fun. 6. Don't look at the tree, look at the snow between the trees. Easy, but it works, your head goes where you look, your body goes where your head goes. so HELMET (got one?) 7. Practice different types of turns: the open glade super surfer carve, the slightly faster aspen glade rhythm, the narrow set, turn, set turn, the really tight set hard lift spin (all my terms), and learn to transition between them (not necessarily in that order) 7. Those aren't trees, they are pylons!. But unlike a few of the other guys I say don't grab the tree to turn. If you get in that habit, you're going miss judge your timing and you'll end up with broken wrist. You will end up doing this occasionally, but again, I'd say don't plan on doing it and don't practice it.
  18. I think you need to tell us a bit more about what you think it wrong or what's not going right. Your body position looks pretty good, your not breaking at the waist, your knees look ok, your head is up, your not reaching for the snow to much. So why do you think you have problems? To me, it looks like maybe your sliding your turn, but we need to see more of you through out the turn. If you are sliding the turn, then why is that happening? You are leaning to far forward or maybe you bindings are forward, you could be dropping your rear foot. Where is the carve track in the snow? you should be on the edge and be smooth through the turn to leave one clean carve track in the snow.
  19. Did you listen to all the big board boys and buy that 167 for your first board? You didn't really say how much riding you've been doing, but for a 140# rider I'd say that 167 is too big, unless you are a pretty good rider. If the narrow choppy run is all you have available, it will be hard for you to really learn until you master being able to drive that board around a turn. You have to drive it hard to get it to turn. So maybe more time on the board and maybe more aggressive riding to get it to turn. But I'd say you need to try something shorter. So spend another $100-200. The Oxygen 159 (proton?) would be a great board for exactly the conditions you describe. Its a slalom board and will turn really fast, and its a race board so its stiff and will cut through the chop. Don't get the Oxy SuperX. wrong board for those conditions. See if you can find your self a cheap little 149-158, Nitro, Rossi, Oxygen, Santa Cruz, or ?? I like HOT boards (french), but they are a bit softer and don't like the chop as much. Ride it for a while then keep it as your rock board. Don't worry that its not a big board, if you can carve it and it works then it works. For reference I'm 5-8 170# and my quiver is: 164 Oxy Proton Race 162 Hot Shine 162 Hot Special 164 Oxy SuperX 64 (the powder board!) 180 Hot Blast
  20. OK, let me just state that I think Bomber bindings are great, and I think Fin is great and all the best. I used to own some. Get Cateks. The Cateks have the ability to really dial in the binding angles (fore/aft, left/right) that allow you reduce the stress points in your knees. Been there done that. My knees have seen one surgery for ACL replacement and meniscus clean up, and one recently for microfracture surgery to fix microfractures in the bone and a OCD or OCL (osteochondrl lesion). Cateks allowed me to dial in a lower stress riding position than any other binding..
  21. well first, check the binding size of your boot. If you look at the heel area, it will have that information. YOu can look in the bomberonline store boots area for more information. If the boot will fit on the plate, go with the shorts. Less weight, and less overhang. I wear 26's and weigh 175 and I have the short plates.
  22. If you need a NEW heel, then yes you should buy a new heel assembly. But if you have a right and need a left, you just have to take it apart and flip the parts. INTEC like many smart manufacturers designed one heel and its parts that can be set and used universally, ie, can be built as a left or a right. Just put all your parts on a towel so you don't loose anything important.
  23. Get the book from Amazon used, about $3 plus shipping. Get some 1 gallon tide bottles and the exercise ball, a broom handle and buy or make weeble boards (yes search for that item). Then get your ass in shape! and strengthen your body, its the only thing that will let you survive with a bad back.
