  1. Be prepared for a wild ride on the lift at Turner. I'm surprised no one has ever mentioned it? Or maybe I'm the only wuss that's deathly afraid of it when there's snow on the seats?

I loaded in the morning after it snowed, and right after sitting down with the chair swinging forward I was ejected forward off the chair from the snow. After, each ride there was snow on the seat I was clinging onto the pole and @pow4everfor fear of falling off riding up 😮

Maybe my 140 lbs doesn't anchor me to the seat enough 🙂

  3. I'll be staying in Frisco and will be going to Copper and A-Basin on an Ikon pass the week of January 23. I've never been to either.

Is one better on weekends? It looks like from the trail map it'd be Copper, because it looks like the layout spreads people out more?

Which is better for carving trails?

For both, is there an area to put on boots then stow the bootbag free?

  4. Similar here at Mad River in Ohio, owned by Vail.

Finally opened this weekend, but for the season, the hours are greatly reduced.

    In the past:

    M-Th 10am - 9pm

    F 10am - 2am

    Sat 9am - 2am

    Sun 9am - 9pm

    This year:

    M-F 3pm - 9pm

    Sat/Sun 10am - 5pm

Yesterday was the most crowded I've seen by 12pm.

I'll be going to Perfect North on Tuesday to get a day in, even though I have a season pass to Mad River.

I'll probably buy a season pass to Snow Trails in Mansfield next year.

  5. No, the tail protection can be removed.

It's Dakine Spikes cut up, but they changed the adhesive maybe 5-6 years ago. The adhesive sticks to your board, but doesn't stick to the stomp pad material. So I peel off the adhesive and use silicone caulk to adhere it instead. I have it on all my boards.

It's removable with Goo Be Gone.

  6. Waist - ~25.5cm

This is about a 2011? Nidecker Megalight.

It's the fatter cake eating sibling to the same era Proto All Mountain version that carves very well. But this also floats in powder very well. The Megalight and Ultralight are powder boards that carve well. I occasionally used it as a carver, tried it in powder once.

Base is very good with light scratches, top sheet good, a few light marks from before I bought it. Comes with stomp pad and tail protection.

    $200 plus shipping.

  7. ~26cm waist

I bought this from Prior back in 2014 or so, only owner. Living in Ohio, this only saw days on trips to Aspen or Quebec when it dumped.

Base has a few light marks, top sheet is very good. Small chip near the nose that I marine epoxied to be sure nothing got worse, shown in photo.

Comes with stomp pad and tail protection.

    $325 plus shipping

  8. Perfect conditions to ride and practice on today - Very Fast Hard Frozen granular you can dig into with commitment. Wogo did extremely well in these conditions today. Lapped Spillway for most of the morning, lower Gondola a few times, Sluice twice and then hit Upper Comp with tired legs twice. Snow on Upper Comp seemed to be best, although a bit chewed up by the time I got there. I may start there tomorrow if it's groomed.

Also was trying out new foot beds made by @Beckmann AG. I had custom foot beds made at a ski shop in Stratton at ECES in 2014. Didn't realize how much my foot still moved around until I rode Erik's today. Definitely much better support. At first it was as though I lost some feeling with the snow and board just with the swap of foot beds. But getting used to that feeling, apparently with the other foot beds the bottom of my feet were constantly moving to grip and were receiving a lot of feedback from board/snow in the process, while now they're fixed stably to the sole of the liner/boot. I also didn't get pains on my inner little ankle bone from my rear arch collapsing trying to pressure the board.

Well Khanh..you definitely will have variety this week..

    It's all good.

I chose to come to Sugarloaf this year for the challenging conditions and terrain to try to improve. I guess I'll get more than I asked for tomorrow...

Rode the 2" wet new snow today when the lifts finally started at 10:40am after the wind hold. Both Hay Burner and Kings Landing felt like there was frozen granular or firmer stuff beneath the snow.

Should be very fast and very very firm tomorrow morning, if the lifts spin. It's supposed to be pretty windy and cold tomorrow.

The problem is that i am never going to learn to become a hip dragger riding a hill like this and let’s face it being a hipdragger is what separates the men from the boys in this sport.

Practice good form and good technique with angulation, over and over again on any terrain - muscle memory. Hip dragging eventually is a by product of great technique.

If your goal right now is hip dragging without getting the technique behind it, you'll probably just be forming bad habits/technique to try to get to this goal. These then will be hard to unlearn/undo.

And you can develop good technique on a green run to get you there. My home "mountain" is below, all 300 bad a$$ feet vertical of it. It's a 5 minute lift ride, and 30 seconds of carving down. Our "black" run would be labeled a green in Colorado. If you're familiar with Buttermilk, it'd be similar in pitch to Westward Ho or Larkspur over in West Buttermilk. But, it's what I've got to ride near me.

    Is dingbat back again!?

When are you coming back to BEast? I'll probably be up that way later this month but with restrictions in MA, won't be stopping there.

    Next season?
