  1. I stand corrected, thanks. Indeed, I hadn't been paying as much attention last year.

    Metrons

Metron is a contraction of Metric Ton, which is what those skis weigh. I agree though, skiing is fun again. I have no qualms going to 2 boards to ski with my kids. And I'm a better skier now than when I stopped skiing years ago!
  3. So no more Kessler for the Schoch bros - wow! I'm sure Kessler is none too pleased. This is very interesting. What will this mean for the WC racing community's mentality on board selection? If the Schochs fail to podium consistently on these boards, the boards will be gone in a year or two, and the Kessler parade marches on. OR, if the Schochs continue their winning ways on these boards, and enough other people podium on them, we may see a paradigm shift to Black Pearl. OR, if the Schochs win on BP but nobody else does... maybe that will cause racers to wonder if the board is not as big a factor in the equation as they thought, and we'll start to see some diversity again....???
  4. those *have* to be made by Kessler, right? Why then would they bother with their own label? Fawcett tried this with Prior, it didn't last.
  5. I say FC because it sounds like you've got the bug and you're ready to commit. No knock against the Axxess, but any all-mtn carver is going to be a compromise, and not a quantum leap different from a Speedcross. The FCII is wider (19.5cm) so it will still be comfortable. It should open the door for you.
  6. watch for a Donek 163 Freecarve II. you won't be disappointed. or the 167 if you want to go a little longer.
  7. My best friend lives in Houston. Real Estate prices are low, and you can get a nice house in a 'burbsy neighborhood while still being in Houston proper for a great price. Although my friend locks his doors and has a security system. Minute Maid Field is nice. As far as I can tell that's about it. The weather is hotter than a snake's butt in a wagon rut.

  10. oh... dude? the graphics are 110% girly. but you've got the skills to pull it off, so nobody's giving you crap!
  11. You could be right about that. I was pleasantly surprised at how well my board was able to masquerade as an All-Mtn board... which was my hope, and why I gave it a 170 length and 21cm waist.
  12. We're not talking about freeride boards. :p
  13. Sorry, I spoke too soon. The shape of the nose is also a result of redesigning the whole nose both in shape and lift in order to work in better harmony with the sidecut. Notice from this picture where the nose is actually cutting into the snow: http://www.jmphotocraft.com/JM06toeside.jpg It's quite past the end of the running length and well up into the upturn of the nose. This affects turn initiation and the carve. These new stubby/Kessler style noses act more like an extension of the sidecut when the board is tilted up. That way the nose doesn't fight the sidecut. You can feel this on turn initiation - it's quite smooth. Also during the carve, the nose doesn't plow as much. Very cool. If you built a nose this way and then stuck a traditional rounded or pointed nose silhouette out beyond that, you'd have quite a big nose that isn't really doing much. My board worked great all last year and never got hung up on the nose. I took it off the groomers too.
  14. <del>It is purely to maximize running length.</del> <i>see followup post below</i> My board is 170cm overall, 155cm running. A typical board with 155cm running length would be 175cm overall. bobdea is describing the effects of the decambered nose (camber stops well before sidecut ends) which has nothing to do with the stubby look of the nose. You could have a decambered nose with a traditional rounded or pointy style.
  15. Believe the hype. Some of the best boards ever. http://www.jmphotocraft.com/safari/Coiler_Safari.JPG
  16. We don't. Because our classifieds are really just another forum, they are pretty much self-policing. People's overall reputations here as forum members translate to trustworthiness as sellers/buyers. Members are free to post responses to item listings, so anybody can point out concerns with items/prices or unknown sellers. Sometimes this turns into a flame war, but usually it's okay and keeps the classifieds honest. I'm not recommending you start a forum, because that's a whole other ball of wax, and the internet doesn't need another snowboarding forum. That's just why our site works. If I were in your shoes, I'd use google and craigslist as models for simplicity. Keep the pages uncluttered.
  17. That's cool. 160cm just seems a bit short to me for 13m. But Shred's "Infiltrator" 161 has a 14.7m sidecut and he likes it. He designed that to be a board that would carve long and be able to be skidded around crowds easily. If this is going to be your only board, or if it's replacing a 13m board, 13m would be the better choice, imo. But then I'd want 165cm if it were my board. Also I like to have at least a 2m difference in radius between boards in my quiver, so I'd go for 12m. On the running length, yes, the snow goes way up the side of the nose when deep in a carve, so the end of the camber is not the end of the true running length.
  18. That thing is nasty - in a good way. However that looks more like it should have at least 145cm of running length. My Coiler Safari which you saw at the ECES is a 170 with 155cm running. Personally, if this were my board I'd either stick with 12m at 160cm or go to 165cm and 13m. My board is 14m and it works great. Edit - yeah, Shred's Schtubby X3 is nearly identical.
  19. There's TONS of used alpine gear for sale here.
  20. "For a limited time... listing your items for sale is F-r-e-e !" why would anyone pay to list, when we can do it here or there for free?
  21. Our member swt is a Catek rep. You can reach him through the email function of our forum: http://www.bomberonline.com/VBulletin/member.php?u=280 And JSYK, Bomber TD2s are <i>very</i> adjustable for cant and lift, should you ever consider them again.
  22. Seriously, read the Welcome Center, and the FAQ. You're asking questions that are answered there.
