  1. I don't think this is valid anymore, with the advent of soft e-rings and the extra suspension kit. I think if you still need more flex than that, something else is going on.
  2. People "trusting" their hardbooting safety to bails over step-ins is statistically like trusting your life to street travel over air travel. With over-center cam type bails, there IS a way out. Anyone who's landed a jump too hard knows this. With step-ins, the only way out is via catastrophic failure of the boot or heel, which unfortunately one such case has been extensively publicized. And on that note... stay tuned.
  3. I'm a little surprised "yes" is winning so handily. I voted yes of course, but I thought perhaps the movie was too slow and subtle to have mass appeal.
  4. "step-ins suck." - former Burton engineer I know on softboot step-ins.
  5. counting quarter turns on 4 set-screws is easier than looking at a number on your binding?
  6. Today I brought my softboot setup to the freebie room at the town dump. Granted, it was 11 years old, but I am now HB only. I rode that board once last year and hated every minute. Softies are the way to go in floatation-grade powder, but that happens like once a year for me.
  7. I'm of the school of thought that says money spent on a compromise is money wasted, because you will eventually upgrade to what you really want. Bomber TD2s will give you tons of adjustability, and they will hold resale value if you decide the sport is not for you. But if you're really not sure you're going to like it and don't want to shell out for the best, a lot of people also like F2 bindings. Hardbooter.com sells them (only $40 less than Bombers) or you might be able to find some used in our classifieds. I don't like Burton bindings, they're not adjustable for cant/lift, and they're flimsy if you weigh more than like 180.
  8. Kidwell never rode Burton. "I broke all my old Burtons so they didn't make the photo"

    Forsa?

(that's Fin's attempt at humor.)
  10. This will give you some pointers: http://www.bomberonline.com//articles/how_to_buy_snowboard.cfm That's a question for Fin or Michelle. bomber@bomberonline.com
  11. There are these really awesome bindings made by some company called Bomber... TD2 or something... And I'll take a new Prior with a warranty over a used Kessler every time. Other metal boards to consider are Coiler and Donek.
  12. at least I wasn't one of the rats who left Fenway in the top of the 7th.... how much would it suck to be one of those people today?!
  13. I freakin' went to bed after the top of the 7th when Papelbon gave up 2 more. Doh.
  14. If I were single or at least childless, I'd have a board made with custom graphics of what they originally wanted on the cover of Smell The Glove... <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8IrZ4sKLQw&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8IrZ4sKLQw&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
  15. help me out with a debate here... I kind of expect "No." to win, but I'm curious by how much. Or maybe it won't. I thought it was hilarious.
  16. It is nasty. And for the record, whatever it is you think you're getting in the Rockies, it isn't seafood. At least... it doesn't taste like what we have here on the coast! ;) hey, that's not my platform. I love me a good tramp stamp.
  17. Definitely try it. One of the reasons I thought I would never want/need hardboots is because when I went from 2 straps to 3 straps, THAT difference was night and day too.
  18. microwaving leftover seafood in the office will be illegal!
  19. Not quite. But I do strongly believe there is a place for 3 strap bindings, for people who have come to the realization that they're not ruling the pipe and tweaking grabs in the park anymore, or anyone who wants to just cruise the mountain with better response. 3 strap bindings are the gateway to hardboots. I remember when I had 3-strappers on my Safari and then PJ. I thought I would never need hardboots, and I actually vowed to never use them, because I was a snowboarder dammit, and snowboarders don't use ski boots. But then I did try hardboots, and the difference was night and day. I was blown away. It was like breaking the sound barrier. So I really wouldn't say that riding 3 straps is just like riding in hardboots, because it most definitely is not. But the key point is, 3-strap bindings allowed me to make the transition to hardboots effortlessly and naturally. Today it seems people coming from 2 strap bindings have to learn riding in hardboots as if it were a totally different sport. That's sad.

    Hello

Coiler, Donek, Prior, Madd. If you're serious about getting back into alpine, there would be no point in getting a used Rossi. If you really want a high speed board like you say, the Madd 180 is one of the fastest stock boards out there. Their other boards (170, 158) aren't intended for super-g speeds, and they're narrower (18cm). As for Coiler, Donek, and Prior, it's hard to go wrong there. No need to look any further than these four, IMO. There are some tips on buying a new board in our Welcome Center.
