1. forcing your knees together does not bend the board into a smaller continuous arc. all it might do to the board is put a kink in it between your feet. this is not what you want. people perceive this "technique" as forcing their board into a tighter turn, but what really probably happens is it causes you to angulate more and tilt the board up higher. that results in a tighter turn. you can and should angulate without jamming your knees together. riding with knees together is less balanced.
2. For a given sidecut radius and speed, there is exactly one turn radius the board will truly carve with no angulation. "inclination" - the angle at which your center of gravity is leaned into the turn. "angulation" - using your body joints to create an edge angle that is different from your inclination angle. So by angulating, we can carve different radii at a given speed. Also note that the sidecut radius of your board is actually slightly larger than the largest turn your board will carve. The mere act of tilting the board up on edge bends the board into a tighter arc.
3. A member here named Rob Stevens might want to buy that from you if you're not sure you want it.

Question,

Well, it helps if you give your thread a title that's more descriptive than "question". Also maybe not many people know/care about acai berries. I tried a bottle of this the other day... the label only reported like 4% usda vitamin C and not much A or E either. How is this so high in antioxidants then? It did seem to give me a bit of a lift though.
5. It would be nice if we could see you for more than one carve per video. What vintage is that outfit?
6. After the scare of near $5/gal gas this summer, I can't fathom driving an SUV. If bringing along a friend for each kid weren't in the equation, I'd say get an AWD wagon like the Outback, VW, Audi, Volvo, or BMW, and throw a roof box on it. But that will be a factor for me eventually. So with kids and friends in mind, I'd say it's a tossup between the Odyssey and the Tribeca. Odyssey will probably be more comfortable, but probably gets slightly worse mpg, I dunno.
7. The Carving Community has always been all about technique as well as all things alpine-snowboarding. I was going to respond to your video when I had time. I'll move it here.
8. Of course we would not put non-snowboarding videos in the videos forum... that's off-topic. We can't just leave things the way we are, because we haven't defined exactly what goes where. Buggs, you still haven't voted in the poll.
9. uhh... Bobby? Gecko? You guys forgot to vote.
10. The videos forum seems to be getting more usage, especially now that it is so much easier to put video online these days. We're debating how to handle videos. Put ALL videos there, or just the eye-candy? Personally I would like to see technique discussions stay here in the Carving Community whether they include video or not. Or do you think it would make things easier/more organized to put all threads with video in the videos forum? We would probably have to apply the same logic to the Photos forum. I would also like to see that be just for eye candy and snow sports photography discussion. disclaimer: the results of this poll will be non-binding. Just trying to get a feel. And Fin has the final say of course.
11. I rode a metal topsheet first-gen Prior WCR with TD2s and nothing in between for 2 seasons without a problem. TD3 (especially with soft/yellow e-ring) should be even gentler on the board. I generally don't break boards or bindings though, so I'm not riding in an excessively binding-torquing way. Does he still say that? Bruce watched me mount TD2s to my new board and didn't say anything. Hasn't been a problem either.
12. I have a line on one. A friend has first dibs though. I'll let you know if he declines.

Question,

This thread is as off-topic as it gets. Don't worry Buggs, our OT forum gets lots of traffic.

Question,

If you drink the juice, the next morning you wake up with absolutely no pubic hair.
15. That's right. They're scared. Because they know their product is crap, and people will realize that as soon as they try to carve on it. To the OP: yes, yes you are. But if you got it, flaunt it. Right?
16. I believe they're not doing a production run this season, but that they do have some boards in stock. I wouldn't place an order through the website nor paypal them any money without communicating your intentions with Mike directly. Hardbooter might also have some boards in stock for sale, I don't know. If you're looking for a metal board, you should look to the known builders first, Madd metals are still in prototype phase. Unless you want to be a guinea pig of course. But if you want a lively snappy ride with lots of energy and great edge hold, the latest Madds are as good as it gets. http://www.madd1.com/contact.htm
17. This is a good drill, reach for the front boot cuff with your trailing (left) hand. Just don't bend over at the waist to do it.
18. Yup, this is common when starting out. You'll need to get back to basics in order to fix this. Check out our Technique Articles here, start with The Norm: http://www.bomberonline.com/articles/tech_articles.cfm A couple points for you to keep in mind next time you ride - keep both your hands out in front of you where you can see them, and keep your leading hand (left hand) on the heel side of the board. Don't let it cross the board. Lean into the turn first, bend knees second. Look where you want to go, not just down the hill.
19. Short answer: a longer radius board can make the same size turn as a shorter radius board, but it will have to do it at a higher speed and higher edge angle. A shorter radius board can make the same size turn as a longer radius board, but it will have to do it at a slower speed and less edge angle. Long answer: http://www.bomberonline.com//articles/physics.cfm I think I'd like to change my vote to stiffness. The wrong stiffness (especially too soft) is going to ruin your day no matter what. Sidecut can be dealt with, provided you have the trail width and the cajones. However for EC, the wrong sidecut will also ruin your day. You're going to want to look at 13m to 15m boards. Don't be put off by a big number - the stability will be eye-opening. Smaller than 13 and you're going to be chattering out if you try to lay down a long turn.
20. I agree it's impossible to choose flex or sidecut over the other. The right stiffness board with a 9m sidecut isn't going to do GS-sized layout carves no matter what, so the two factors are inseparable. (SL-sized layout carves sure, but that's not the goal, right?)
21. This is kind of like asking who do you like better, your mom or dad, but if you hold all variables constant between two boards and vary only one at a time, the biggest difference will be sidecut radius followed closely by stiffness. Actually it's probably a tie, but if I can only vote for one it's radius.
22. Haha, sorry I didn't explain that well. No, falling leaf kills all momentum. I'm saying rip a toeside, spin 180, rip another toeside, all at speed. So, finish the toeside turn normally, start the edge change normally, but instead of setting the heelside edge, you spin the board 180 and set the toeside edge. For a goofy, the toeside-to-toeside 180 spin is clockwise (viewed from above). For a regular, counter-clockwise.
23. If talking about carving on the internet doesn't get old, then certainly carving never gets old.
