  1. like, dude, did you hear some bros got busted, man. This just helps to drive stupid stereotypes, although skiiers were in this, too. Couldn't they at least do it on the parking lot? --- Barry
  2. fun to examine the "psychological" aspect of it all. I'm still a newb, and I'd have to agree with everyone else, esp. as you will probably be tempted to touch the snow (for several reasons), just try not to. in general, though, I try not to think of too much when riding other than something I want to try. riding is probably my main escape from the real world, and I suspect it is for others too. now I listen to music while riding to maximize "the stoke," lol. Barry
  3. first, powder mountain, while somewhat remote , was awesome. one of the best riding experiences i've had. lots of powder and almost no one there, real wide trails too. second, I had a crapload more energy today. I think I'm more used to the air and had a water/gatorate concoction in my camelback and I had a power bar, maybe they're much better than cliff bars. anyway, I'm out, headed back tomorrow. thx, Barry
  4. hey guys, 'biling at Daniels Summit was AWESOME. wow, powerful things those are. We did the loop went off the trail just a few times, great fun. our backs are a bit sore today, lol, apparently from being in the hunched over position. heading to Powder Mtn in a little bit. do you all think that perhaps my skinny legs (and hence the need to buckle the boot pretty tight, which may cause more pressure) could be a contribuing factor to the burn above the ankle? I think I might try this sportleg- it's just like a regular supplement? Kirk, sorry I didn't sign on at all until today, so I didn't see your last message. If you're up for checking my setup out sometime this evening, I'd be ineterested. thx, Barry
  5. we are about to head to daniel's point to go snowmobiling, so I'll be able to write more when I reutrn. My equipment is a Burton Alp 157 (I'm light) and the Raichle entry level boots, and Burton Race bale bindings. my angles are both in teh lower 50s I believe, will have to double check on that. Kirk, yeah, Fairfax sounds familiar. you're obviously close to us. Anyway, I didn't really pay much attention to the trails, I know strawberry was closed. I think we took some "revenge" trail. Lot of powder. I'm pretty sure we're headed to powder mountain tomorrow. ttyl, Barry
  6. You guys make anything of the area right above the ankle on front foot bothering me while riding. (not sure if this is the dorisflexor) Bow legged, just tried negative cant on front foot for the first time today Also, does everyone here have really strong legs or what, b/c alpine seems killer on legs, especially front quad. Anyone else think that carving takes about 1.5 - 2x as much physical effort as freeriding? Opened up the season today and my board rode me today. I switched to my soft setup halfway through. Wishing I had done more cardio/weights before I got here. Anyway, Kirk, interesting town Layton is. There is a mule in our backyard- this is a first for me. I'm staying near a big Rite Aid style store called "Anderson's" you near there? snowbasin lodge was insanely nice, though, and so were the employees. I've never seen such fancy bathrooms and cafeterias in a ski resort. Will there be videos of the Gilmour clinic? John Gilmour, any plans for the mid atlantic riders? frustrated, Barry
  7. yup, got the pics, thx, but I had no idea who you were, lol, I get tons of hacker emails b/c of my job so I was afraid to download the zip file at first. yes that's the universal cant that i used last year. the ones i rec'd are actually different, not circular. I'm going to mess with it in a little bit. thx for the help, Barry
  8. hey guys, thx for the info. alpinecarving is a great site and I checked it last night but apparently missed that part. The terminology can be slightly confusing to those not intimiately familiar with the stuff, as I'm quite postive that the burton cant I already had- the circular 8 degree cant- is also called a Universal cant. The new one had no degree markings. And i guess it's just a rear cant, or did i misread that too. anyway, going to pick up my board now. utah carvers i know you're getting hammered hopefully i'll see you out there! Barry
  9. Phil, many thanks for the offer. I read earlier that SLC was getting snow. Damn, I really wanted to ride hard setup. My friend is intent on hitting snowbasin and perhaps powder mtn, so at this point it looks like we won't be able to do PC, but I'll try to convince him otherwise. again, many thx for the generous offer. Barry
  10. Alpinegirl, what you've described here is the 8 degree universal cant, which I have the instructions to and used last year. What i Just received now are 2 irregularly shaped wedges each with a semi oval metal plate notches (the metal interface to the actual board). I'm pretty sure the procedure is the same, but right now I'm just having some trouble with the orientation (but I also don't have my board in front of me). thx for the info. ps where exactly is pumpkin hook? --- Barry
  11. hey guys, I just got a burton universal cant- it's not like the other circular one i have though. I think I know how this one works but need confirmation and commentary -). I don't have my gear with me now so I can't actually try it out. 1. which is better? the circular cant or the sorta rectangular one 2. I rec'd 2 wedges, even though the packing slip says it's 1 universal. can someone confirm each "wedge" is really just a separate cant. 3. I don't see any degree markings?? 4. is the procedure for mounting this cant similar to the circular cant? this cant has the plate built into the center of it. I tried placing it under my race binding and the 3D patterns definitely do not match up when I align the cant so the engraved word "nose" is perfectly horizontal. leaving for utah in a day, please advise thx, Barry
  12. Kirk, thx for the advice. We traveling 3/4 across teh country so yeah, I want decent conditions, lol. thx, Barry
  13. We'll be on Powder mountain and snowbasin next Friday and Sunday (not sure which mountain which day though). Snowmobiling at Daniel's Summit Saturday. I'm staying at my friend's in Layton, also. Apparently it's somewhat close to where you live. I'll be wearing a yellow shell and beigeish/greenish snowboarding pants, hopefully riding my Alp 157, black helmet. May have the freeride 156 though. yourself? Barry
  14. Thx all for teh responses. phil, insurance in case you damage the snowmobile or yourself? i asusme teh snowmobile. is there some kind of navigation system so you don't get lost? thx, Barry
  15. Hi All, My friends and I will be riding Snowbasin, Snowbird, and probably Brighton on the following days 12/10 (Friday), 12/11 (Sat), and 12/12. I have a ton of ?'s for those who know. 1. How are each of these resorts for carving? 2. Can you recommend some carving runs (I'm newb carver) for each resort 3. We want to go snowmobiling for a day. My friend is a former local and says that the real good snowmobiling areas are about 2 hours from SLC area. Can someone please point me in the right direction. None of us have ever snowmobilied. It seems to me that 3 hours would be plenty, but I don't know. Also, what's a good price? 4. Any hardboot instructors in the SLC area? 5. Deer Valley and Alta are the only Utah resorts that prohoibit riding, right? 6. Last, but certainly not least, I'd love to ride with anyone out there, esp. if you feel like giving me some pointers. Let me know if you wanna meet sometime. many Thanks in advance, Barry
  16. hi all, unfortuneatly I don't have time right now to do a search for old threads on this topic. when i drop my board off to get tuned, what should I tell them re: the edges? any specific instructions- degrees, etc. background info: newbie hardbooter, going to Utah in a week or so, normally ride east coast. current board= burton alp. thx, Barry
  17. thankful to have everything i do and be in the position I am. Everytime I gripe about something that's not really important (when you look at the big picture) I remind myself I could be living in some 3rd world country. Barry
  18. what is a "flapper skiier" a skiier flailing wildly? and how do you know he was rich? Barry
  19. Neil, I agree. --- Barry
  20. Bob, I agree with you but do you find the name "Bomber" to be somewhat ironic in the context of this thread. Also, I'd be willing to be more than a few here have straight lined a few runs.....not saying it's a good idea though. Barry
  21. people don't usually get cited for it, though. I've been in a collission before, wasn't fun and good reason to wear a helmet. Sometimes it actually is an honest mistake on both sides and no one person's fault really. Barry
  22. is what i meant to say, sorry. meaning that the production of female specific hardgear is still a relatively new thing. Barry
  23. <<What a bunch of leg-humpers we are>> Females are a recently new snowboarding demographic, but I think it's safe to say that no one got into alpine for the p***y, lol (that is, it's male dominated obviously- I'm sure the women here are all hotties) Have you tried running game on the slopes? Hell, there's all kinds of innuendo you can say to snow bunnies re: our boards, esp. if they're new (the broads, not the boards -) )- be creative, like that guy who told people his tail was flat b/c he felt like sawing it off, lol. If you are truly machivellian, you could purposely crash into a hot girl and use that to talk to her, hahahah, but I hope it doesn't come down to that, it would be funny though. Barry

    looking for a board

just wanted to say that's awesome. great to see persons with disabilities not only participating, but really good too. the adaptive skiiers i've seen have usually had instructors helping them out. the airs were awesome. keep it up. Barry
