  1. Mellow, is that all the resort?? Come on there has to be more. There has to be a backside to the mtn. That looks doable in about 7 turns. Do I hear 6 turns?? Only joking with ya.
  2. I posted a question about snow sticking to the heel of the boots and not allowing me to "step in" to my step ins. I converted over from standard bindings during the summer and this was my first trip out, I just wanted to know if anyone else experienced this and this is the reply I received from Mr. Ferguson: rick ferguson Member Registered: Dec 2003 Location: santa cruz,ca Posts: 42 Get over it, simply scrap your heels on your bindings or stomp pad, no big deal! step in or not , the same snow sticks to all heels! Was this really worth a posting? Pussy!!!! If we were friends I wouldn't mind a little good natured ribbing but I have never met this guy and going by his posts, not sure if I ever want to Randy, I have to agree with Dsub on the second photo.
  3. Gawdzira, registration is 3:30 to 5:00 with racing beginning at 6:00. The run that they will be using for the course is "Conquest". Membership is $50.00 annual. Hopefully we will get some more snow before then or have cooler temps along with some Santa Anas so they can blow some snow. I haven't been up personally but from who I talked with things are starting to get marginal at Mt. High and also Big Bear.
  4. Sean, the new site looks great, I like your layout of the specs on the boards, easy to read!!
  5. Trikerdad, you might want to post this question over at www.tahoecarvers.com. There are many people over there who have been to the Tahoe area many times this year so far. Lots of good folks there too, alot of the guys there post here too.
  6. Just curious as to when the photo contest will end. Here we are into November and were still looking at the same pic. Fin, if you need my address for my new TD2s that I won for having the best caption, email me and I will send it to you, I think Michelle has it on file also. Oh, btw, step ins are preferred
  7. Brian, if you scroll through the members section to Garrett, send him an email, he can give you the info you need. I rode with him at the SES in '03 and he could rip on a Mistral 174. He had a great surf style riding the hard boots, one thing I remember about his style is that he was always low enough to touch the snow but never would. I thought it looked cool cuz everyone here always drags a hand in the snow, Garrett didn't. If you were at SES 04 he was seen wearing a lab coat as he rode,
  8. Vitger, if those boots in the pic are the ones you have for sale, they are not intec compatible. Intec requires that you replace the heel piece on the boot and I am not talking about the wear pad. As you can see the heel is molded with the shell as one piece. Let's be honest!!!
  9. JoeD, I have a 172 Coil that you could try, I'm not sure if I want to sell it at this time. I prefer to hang onto it for my friends who want to try carving. You are more than welcome to try it. Where are you located? I live a the base of the hill on your way to Big Bear if you livei n SoCal, let me know.
  10. Jim, glad to hear that you were able to ride at Bear. I've sent you some emails, one through the bomber site. but received no response. I was emailing you to se if you would be interested in flying to mammoth between Thanksgiving and Christmas. It would just be for a day trip. My dad and I flew up last week for a couple of days and it was incredible. OVR
  11. OCD, yep, that was me that you met there. That was Vallyn I was riding with, she is also a poster here on BOL. We just happened to meet up by chance. Of course, I immediately saw the BOL sticker on her board. I was up at Mammoth with my dad, he said something funny. He claimed that when hardbooters ride they must emit a strong pheremone as they tend to attract other carvers, then it turns into the social thing. I also met Don? from San Diego, he was on a purple Prior 174 4WD. Sorry to hear about your toe, never experienced that type of situation myself. I must have a foot that is identical to the last that mfr's use to make liners, I never had a problem with fit, even in ski boots.
  12. Were you the one I met outside of McCoy station, I was headed down to Ch. 2. You talked for a bit and then took off? I was on a Prior 179 4WD. I met someone on a carving board there, can't remember your name though. This was on Friday, I agree with you that the snow was most awesome, and you say it was even better by Sunday?? It was pretty warm when we left on Friday afternoon. I figured the snow would be getting sticky.
  13. hey Rick Ferguson, i can see by the number of posts that you have you might be considered a rookie here. Is it necessary to call someone a "*ussy". There are some simple guidelines to using this forum and personal attacks are one of the no nos. I don't care if it is in jest, you don't know me well enough to call me that. FYI, I upgraded from standard bindings to step ins and had not encountered this problem with the standards from what I remember. I was only asking some others for some input. If you can't play nice, don't play at all!
  14. Just returned from an awesome two day trip to Mammoth, boarded off of Dave's and Cornice, but mostly rode on Chair 1,2, and 3. Awesome conditions for October. On to my dilemna, I had a huge problem with snow sticking to the heel of my boot making engaging the pins into the receptacle a long and tedious process. I would chip the snow off with my handy dandy bicycle multi-tool that I carry with me, but the snow kept packing up on the heel. What do the other riders do, who own step ins, to alleviate this problem. I sure like the convenience of step ins but at this point I am thinking of going back to standards. Do you spray your boots down with PAM?? Silicon?? If a solution is not found, any body want to buy a step in kit for TD1s and Catek Olympics?? OH, and and Intec heel kit too.
  15. You're right in my backyard. I was wakeboarding/waterskiing up unitl last weekend. The heavy rains filled up my buddy's boat on Arrowhead, the auto bilge pump didn't function, needless to say, his boat sunk. The only thing keeping it from the bottom of the lake were the dock lines. He always wanted a wakeboarding boat, good oppurtunity to get one now. I tried to post a pic of the boat underwater but the file was too big. I think I rode with you at SES '03. I live in Redlands. Will you be there till Thursday 10/28. I will be heading up there then.
  16. Nekdut, I'm gonna have to pass this weekend, I am planning on flying up on Thursday of next week and staying over night and riding friday to. I don't like to battle the crowds on a weekend.
  17. Nekdut, it appears that you might be heading up this weekend, is this true? Ya gotta love the value pass, wishin' I would've bought one. I will wait for a one or two mores storms before I head up unless if someone really twists my arm behind my back. HEHEHE!!
  18. Isn't Randy the one who just returned from Chile??? Your punishment for gettin the jump on the season before everyone else is??? NO RIDING TILL DECEMBER FOR YOU!! Who else agrees with me???

    El Nino?

Unless the earthquakes shook up the valley, Riverside would be more than 30 miles.
  20. I started riding skis in the early 70's, competed in GS through the 80s and early 90s. I tried soft boots in 94 for a total of 4 trips up the mtn. I just didn't like the feel of softies, not a direct edge connection like in ski boots. I went to Mammoth in 95 and saw my first carver rippin' turns down Stump Alley. I knew then that is what I wanted to do on a snowboard. I rode alpine only for 8 years. Last year, my brother talked me into trying the some shaped skis, since then I bought some shaped skis and new boots and now I switch back and forth between the alpine boards and the skis.
  21. Employee forms (aka shop forms) were the best. When I was riding two planks in the 80's you could buy a sweet Olin SL package with Marker MRR bindings for 175.00 , that included poles too. Nordica 981s went for something like 120.00 on the employee forms. I always thought that the reason the shop employees received the killer deals is that the shop employees had to sale that merchandise to the public. The patrollers and instructors who purchased on the pro forms only had to look good using the stuff. I hooked my brother and I up with SL and GS skis, we looked like total dorks on the hill with identical equipment though. I remember once my bro and I were skiing Mammoth, chair 3, and while we were in the lift line I saw my boss standing next to us. He checked out the equipment that we had on, made a comment on our identical setups. Once I returned back to the shop I had a meeting with the boss who informed me that pro forms were strictly for shop employees only, not family members. Who would've thunk that you would run into your boss at Mammoth??? BTW, still have the set of Olin GS skis in my closet, 215s baby. YEAH!!
  22. knoch, yes I have done that many times, although highly illegal. The benefits of having a spotter are: YOu get a bit of a break before your rotation comes up, when skiing a slalom course you are getting a major workout. Pulling through the wake, decelerating to make the turn. I know when I get finished with few trips up and down the course, I need to catch alittle breather. Wakeboarding is a different story, I can hold on forever, speed is much slower, resistance going through the water is less. Another good thing in having an observer is to fine tune the wake for slalom skiing or wakeboarding. Depending on the boat and the rotation of the prop, sometimes the wake is not quite symmetrical, i.e. the right side is bigger than the left, the observer can change position to adjust the wake. This may seem trivial to non slalom course skiers but it makes a huge difference behind the boat. For wakeboarding you can astually change the crest of the wake for better takeoffs by moving the observer laterally. I always get a chuckle when I go skiing with someone new, I point at them and tell them to move afew inches to the right or left to adjust the wake.
  23. 55 front, 50 rear, this is on a Prior 4X4 179
  24. Everyone here is talking about getting the itch to go carving, I say to that "carving schmarving",who needs it?? I just went up to Lake Arrowhead, Ca, this morning for a session of slalom skiing and wakeboarding. All I can say is INCREDIBLE! One other water skier on the water, water temp in the 60's, air temp in the hi 70s. Took 5 ski runs and then took out the wakeboard and had a blast for another few hours. I think this year I will be water skiing into December, throw the dry suit on and I am good to go. I'm not jonesing for snow, my water skiing, wakeboarding season just got under way. Anyone else here a year long water skier, wake boarder??
  25. the pic of A Pogue getting ready at the start gate, can anyone make out if those are Cateks???
