  1. I think this thread has been pretty light hearted, goofy, and self depricating.

    To add some perspective:

    https://www.tennisforum.com/threads/which-male-player-has-the-sexiest-butt.23480/page-5

There they talk about specific body features of specific people. Creepy.  Here we had a "remember this old snowboarder" moment and some folks mentioned they had a crush...  I feel sorry for folks that haven't had a crush.

And for the record I've never sent sexual references to a female athlete.  None of my ex-gfs would give me a very good letter of recommendation.

I do not see a lot of body movements during the course of any of your videos and it appears that your shoulders are more aligned with your bindings than perpendicular to the long axis of the board. Is that part of the “racing” technique and you are just more comfortable in that stance OR is that your comfortable stance that you learned to excel with?

That was interesting to read that somebody else had some of the same impressions that I had.  There were a couple of things in the videos that went into cognitive dissonance with my understanding of the techniques laid out in the tech articles and forms that we typically teach on this site (freecarving).  Case in point is in the "Moon" video (which is awesome) and the turn at 0:21. Maybe it is just a illusion from the camera angle but it looks like the arms/shoulders are rotating to the outside of the turn (ie it is a left side turn, but the upper body is rotating towards the right?).  Would be really interesting to hear some feedback on carving technique outside of the racing threads, maybe some of us are pedantically holding to the norms to a fault and missing the forest for the trees?

Here in Utah Snowbird is offering a Fast Track pass for $69.00 on top of the price of a regular pass, you can also add it onto a season pass daily, so people can snake to the front of lines ahead of everyone else. Glad I don't ride there. As far as I know they are the only resort so far to offer this in Utah. Pretty lame in my opinion though. It's bad enough that Powder Mountain is offering and accepting IKON passes to clog up the mountain even more. But what can you do, Progess I guess.

That is a drag.  I've had a few epic days at Powder Mtn while visiting the States.  Absolutely loved the terrain and the vibe of the place: old school, no frills, skibumville.  Also loved the super-rickety 2-person lift with the slippery seat that felt like it had a slight incline downwards and outwards.  Best of all was the ratio of people to km^2 of the terrain.

  4. I really wish someone would make a mitten with a thermoformed TPU palm/thumb that put all of the seams toward s the back of the mitten.  I did some pretty extreme cold weather testing for TPU sheets once and that stuff was awesome.  Really pliable when cold and really abrasion resistant.

I am trying not to get into the debates as this gets political. If I go counter argument to every argument, it is definitely political, so I don't do that.

But why wouldn't you want to?  Argumentation isn't necessarily political, and it is used all the time in science and engineering.  At the very least, it appears that you have a strong desire to help reduce the amount of ignorance in the world.  That is fantastic, but then you surely must want to present your best information and help people understand it in the correct context?

  6. Bumbled across this gen-x classic.  Remember their Too Dark Park tour, still trying to scrub some of the images putta my head.

Wellll…. that’s (ironically) Censored.  Try this.  (Rips off the Brother’s Quay but still fun)

Or the classic… still get goosebumps:

Since other threads are making me stupid, I’ve decided to switch up my daily dose of stupid in a form that at least tastes good:

It has been forever since I’ve listened to the Dwarves, nice, classy!

For the sweet love of Jonas Salk, I wish I could get myself vaccinated against reading these posts. They're depleting my already scant grey matter, but I can't seem to stop myself...

    Same.

Every morning after making coffee I open up the forums and think "Oh no, another new post in The Lodge!  It couldn't be THAT thread again...  Hmmmm...  I better check.  Oh no! It IS That Thread!  Welllllllllll...  Hmmmmm...... I could check it out one last time." and boom here I am again.

The discussions revolving around correlation, causation, statistical fallicies, etc were interesting, and despite rubbing some sore nerves at times, it has been informative.  However, this thread has now taken a decidedly political turn in the last few posts by specifically linking to stories involving overtly political content and minimal/no Covid content.  (Before anyone gets their tinfoil knickers in a knot, I am also referring to the post I laughed at that ridiculed Flynn).  We appear to be charting a course into darker waters.  Kill this thread?

…and, evidently, vaccination also makes you less susceptible to conspiracy theories and quackery.

And I’ve got it from a reputable source that getting the shot gives you bigger balls.  Soo… pencil thin carves on double diamonds, here I come!!!

    always include your sources: https://www.thedailybeast.com/nicki-minaj-says-she-wont-get-vaccinated-against-covid-19-because-cousins-friend-has-swollen-testicles

  10. I'll add some:

    Historical Fiction:

+Bernard Cornwall: Vikings, Napolianic War, the US Civil War, he's got it all and it is exciting and well researched

+Patrick O'Brian:  It's like Hornblower++, was really bummed to be finished with all of his books

    Introspective, moody fiction:

+Cormac Macarthy: Just don't start with Blood Meridian (which is actually faaantaaastic and highly regarded) unless you want something pretty brutal.

+Patrick deWitt:  The Sisters Brothers (as the book) was a fantastic slightly surreal jaunt thru the old west.

    Fantasy/Sci Fi

+Neil Gaiman:  super imaginitive and human stories, with very well crafted prose.

+ Hugh Howey:  Read the Wool books first.  OMG! Nothing has ever presented a post-apocalyptic mythos better than this (well, maybe Macarthy's The Road is better... Maybe)

!ark Lawrence: The Broken Empire series is unhinged, dark-funny, and has you rooting for the kinda bad guy.

  11. There are these people at work that tend to irritate me the most.  They ask questions that purposely tend to portray any presented data in the worst possible light and then shrug and say ‘Hey, I’m no expert, I just thought this should be asked?’

There is a not so fine line between playing devil’s advocate and just throwing turds in the punch bowl from a safe distance because you can.
