  1. Call Walker first...

    A trick for a pressed shaft that's moving is to peen the sides of the shaft in the area that engages the press-fit area. i.e. put it on something heavy like a vise, take a punch and hit it to make a dimple. The steel around the dimple will rise and engage the sides of the hole better. 

    Do this in 3 or 4 spots around the diameter before pressing back in. You don't need much of a dimple. 

    Loctite bearing retention compounds work well too, but more expensive and you need to clean everything very well.

  2. From a pure materials point of view, there are so many grades of carbon steel that are stronger and tougher than 316 SS. Zinc-plate the steel and the corrosion problem is resolved for the relatively short life of an F2 T-nut. 

  3. If you look at how vastly different any given person looks to any other on the hill, it's no doubt that we all have such a variety of cants/lifts/lean angles. There's no standard answer, just literally adjust to your comfort first and foremost, then tweak from there. 

    i.e. If it hurts, it's wrong and you can't extract any meaningful performance. Put on your boots, clip in, watch a video and see what hurts. Adjust away from that. It won't get better on the ski hill!

  4. I had an epic day at Snowmass, maybe 2 days after SES 2017. Airport was shut down so I couldn't get home, so I went riding. Jim Callen showed me the secret spots and coached me into stuff I never thought I could do. Rode the poma lift at the top most of the day. When the liftie said last run I was genuinely shocked. I was having so much fun it felt like 12:30 or something. 

    Then that first MCC. The legends are true. Someone said they got more powder than any heli trip they'd been on. Truly humbling riding with amazing riders that so freely shared tips to help this prairie guy learn more. 

    I started riding pow with a tow rope behind a snowmobile in the late 80s. Very different dynamics, but some of the basics cross over. There's no need for speed control... You do what you gotta do when there aren't mountains where you live!

  5. A group of us have rented a house in Libby, it has an oven. If you know how to do it or are comfortable with newbies giving it a go, come on over! 

    I've molded 3 pairs of liners before, only re-molded one. 

    I'm far from an expert! 

  6. Made a big mistake and ended up hitting a rope retention fence at 90 degrees. Was horrifying as I only saw the trees on the other side. Fence worked great with a gentle caressing stop that was downright peaceful - especially considering the violence I was expecting. But it wrapped me up like a burrito. Took forever to free myself. 

    Riding down the front face of Buttermilk with a new board in my hands that I bought at the SES demo tent on the other side. Didn't think about how much of a sail it would be, steered me right into the moguls under the lift as soon as a crosswind hit me.  

    My first time riding powder in actual mountains: I saw a big powder mound so I did a big heelside slash just like Craig Kelly would do. Yeah, that's a rock you dumb &$#%!

  7. Yes, exactly!

    The words "zero emissions" annoy me. It's marketing wank. There are always some emissions, just maybe not at the vehicle. 

    I get to see a bit of how the sausage is made. We are making huge strides, but the marketing is overblown. I guess overblown marketing is nothing new though! 😆

  8. Pretty cool stuff! Power per mass is a problem for most electric vehicles, but it gets better every few months. 

    An important question: Where does the electricity and/or hydrogen come from?

    - An old coal plant with grandfathered emissions controls? Likely worse then running a modern diesel engine with DPF and other emissions controls...

    - A modern power plant? Much cleaner!
