  1. I don't have my HSPs in front of me but as I recall you don't need a key to adjust forward lean. There should be a notched screw head that can be turned with a flat end of a screwdriver to adjust the spring on the back of the boot which should modify the lean. Unless you're referring to the cant adjustment on the side if the boot. I believe that does require a key. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. I'm only 3 days in and feeling very jealous for those in CO and elsewhere whose seasons are already in full swing. I've been to Bretton Woods in Loon and will likely be back to NH or possibly Stratton this weekend. I love this time of year. It's like being in a new relationship when you can't get enough of the other person. Everything is new and fun. I even had fun last weekend in the rain at Loon. Doesn't matter as long as I'm carving.
  3. ABSOLUTELY AGREE!!! RJ, looking forward to meeting up and riding with you at Pure Boarding in Central NY in February. If you can make it out to Stratton for ECES, it will be totally worth the drive. Cheers!
  4. If I scroll to the top of the current thread I can select the parent thread or main index directly without using back button (using tapatalk for iOS).
  5. Thanks, Jack! Looking forward trying it out.
  6. One place I tend to access BOL a ton on my phone is at carving events such as SES. Everything from getting last minute information on scheduling and events to trying to meet up with fellow carvers and checking out the daily rub-in postings. It will be absolutely killer to use Tapatalk for this.
  7. I agree. I would definitely use it if it were available. Perhaps start a poll to gage interest?
  8. We may now need to make an appointment with his secretary before visiting. "Oh, I'm sorry, Mr. Bennett is not available at this time. Did you have an appointment?"
  9. Cool! I think you had more air time than Chris! See? You *are* famous. Now I don't wanna hear any more crap about you not being a celebrity!
  10. In the past I was able to score some nice on mountain condo deals for Thanksgiving weekend at places like Sunday River. However, it was a few days before and there was tons of snow. Furthermore, I'm pretty sure you can get about the same deals directly from resorts. Maybe if they have good deals for midseason it would be worth it, but I don't recall seeing that.
  11. Might have to work on the beard. Thanks!
  12. Was anyone riding last weekend? What were the conditions like? I'm looking for a place to ride this weekend, probably Sunday. Who has more trails open at this point, Loon or Waterville Valley?
  13. From the information posted here, do I understand correctly that lodging and lift passes are purchased separately? I'd like to book lodging ASAP, and want to make sure before I do. Thanks to team ECES for organizing again! Love this event and wouldn't miss it!
  14. You can also try sending a PM directly to Christian (phillipsbro2) or replying to last year's thread on this event: http://www.bomberonline.com/VBulletin/showthread.php?38822-25-27jan13-joerg-egli-in-central-NY-(toggenburg-and-labrador-mountains)
  15. RJ, Checkout the FB page which should have more information soon: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Pureboarding-in-central-NY-14-feb-16-feb-2014/229921227086278?ref=stream&hc_location=timeline Christian Phillips and his brother, Scott, are the organizers. If you post on the FB page, you may get a quicker answer. You're best bet is to contact Christian directly (see FB page above for his contact info). Last year's event had special rate lodging at Deruyter Lake cottages: http://deruyterlake.com/cottages.htm This is an awesome event that you don't want to miss! Joerg takes time out from his incredibly busy schedule to come to these small hills and give his Pure Boarding carving clinic. Last year they had an entire trail closed off just for us for half the day in addition to early lift access and discounted lift tickets. Photos and videos from last year, including some super slow-motion video of Joerg: https://picasaweb.google.com/110165342571879941204/CarvingCNYSession2013PureBoardingJoergJorgEgli Cheers! Michael
  16. I think this is also a good idea, at least to start with. You'll be getting used to new boots and bindings (and most likely a new stance) so it helps if there's at least something it the equation that's familiar. The first few times I went out in hard boots, I mounted them to my free ride board and practiced The Norm. I was thrilled when I finally hooked up and took off like a rocket! Once I felt that edge engage and lock in, I was hooked. After I could reliably make Norm turns on my free ride board (and there was adequate snow cover), I moved to my new Donek.
  17. This was exactly me when I started with alpine in 2010. On the east coast, I was bored with snowboarding and carving on an alpine board with hard boots allowed me to fall in love with snowboarding all over again.
  18. RJ, I was just about to suggest the Donek Axxess 167 that's for sale, but then I see you've already found it! Regarding boots, see my other post for sizing information. You'll need to know your mondo size for hard boots. Shoe size won't work very well.
  19. Hello and welcome to BOL! I'm originally from Elma and still have family in the area (brother and sister are also in East Aurora). I know Holiday Valley and have ridden there a bunch. With a smaller east coast hill like Holiday Valley, you definitely do not want to a big long GS board. I would suggest starting with an All Mountain board such as a Donek Axxess, Coiler AM, or Prior 4WD. I'm about the same size as you and my first hard boot board was a Donek Axxess 162. Tons of fun, a great board to learn carving on, and I still ride it. Getting proper boots that fit well will be key. In addition to the links mentioned in previous posts (especially alpinecarving.com), also see the boot info here on Bomber, especially the sizing guide. It's critical that you measure your feet as indicated in the guide, rather than trying to use shoe size. The last thing I'll mention is to do whatever you can to hook up with other carvers. I realize that might be difficult in WNY, but there is an awesome week-long carving event at the end of February at Stratton, VT: ECES. Not only will you find other carvers who can give pointers, but you'll find gear demos, including boots, boards, and bindings to try. I haven't ridden at Holiday Valley in about 5 years or so, although my sister's in-laws are from Ellicottville and spend lots of time there. Someday, I'll have to get back there.
  20. An automotive analogy with this crowd? Really??? Talk about a thread-jack. Where the heck is a moderator when you need one. :D

    Wachusett

Not anymore. I used to go midweek evenings, but it's gotten way too crowded in recent years (even by Wachusett standards). There used to be a pretty good hardboot crowd on Monday and Tuesday nights. If you go at night, here's a hint: get some red blinky lights (the kind cyclists use) because the only people who use them are the safety patrol (aka Slow Police). When people saw me coming with the red lights (and orange jacket helped too), they generally gave me a bit more room. Until I was nearly run over by the real safety patrol. The only time I was ever hit while carving was at Wachusett making some nice turns on Upper Tenth under the lift. It was a spectacular tackle from behind. Luckily nobody was hurt. You couldn't get me back there if you paid me.
  22. Hey Bobby, if Tugboater doesn't take you up on the offer, will you buy me a beer?! :D Hope to see you all out at the Beast this season!!!
  23. Corey, I've never used Sika before. Is it possible to use without thinning or do you recommend something other than acetone to thin it? Thanks!
  24. Sikaflex appears to produce a few different products. Is there a particular one that would work well? Links very much appreciated. Thanks!
