  1. I have a set of Catek Olympics with short plates, but I want to try them with the long base plates to compare the performance.
  2. For the older Prior 4WD (I think 1999 model year or earlier), the tail is much more flat/squared-off than the newer models. The older boards are better on the groom, and the newer boards have better maneuverability through the trees.
  3. The photo on Ebay shows the Intec cable running up the outside of the boots. Interesting. I wonder if he drilled special holes for the cable. If not, the cable is probably frayed and ready to break at any moment. Here are two Ebay.com price references for the Raichle SB324 (but not with the Intec heels): new Raichle SB324 US-10 '00, 4-buckle, no strap $127.50 2004.12 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=21249&item=7117683361&rd=1 new Raichle SB324 25.0, 4-buckle, no strap $76.00 2004.12 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=21249&item=7119030415&rd=1 Here is a Ebay.com price reference for (new) Intec heels: new Intec heels $49.99 2005.01 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=21248&item=7131043174&rd=1
  4. [edit] There is now a home page for the docu-drama / photo album I put together for SES (Monday - Friday): http://www.alpinecarving.com/ses05/ enjoy.
  5. I put up some carving shots from Thursday @ SES 05: http://www.alpinecarving.com/ses05/thursday/ Here are the links for Monday, Tuesday Wednesday: http://www.alpinecarving.com/ses05/wednesday/ http://www.alpinecarving.com/ses05/tuesday/ http://www.alpinecarving.com/ses05/monday/
  6. I put up some pow/carving shots from Wednesday @ SES 05: http://www.alpinecarving.com/ses05/wednesday/ Here are the links for Monday and Tuesday: http://www.alpinecarving.com/ses05/tuesday/ http://www.alpinecarving.com/ses05/monday/
  7. I put up some carving action shots from Tuesday @ SES 05: http://www.alpinecarving.com/ses05/tuesday/ I did all the color compensation on my laptop LCD screen, so I have no idea if I got it right. I use a Nikon D70, custom curve that boosts midtones and compresses highlights, plus a +2 EV exposure comp, continuous focus, measured white balance, program setting with a shutter speed of around 1500. However, this is the first time I have used the camera on the slopes, so I am still learning.
  8. I put up some carving action shots from Monday @ SES 05: http://www.alpinecarving.com/ses05/monday/
  9. Oops. That page was for "limited consumption." Ideally, having that sweet carving shot in the mag would cause a bunch of carvers to go out and buy The Snowboard Journal, boosting circulation, which would then prompt more articles about carving, which would result in more new subscriptions from carvers, etc. Here is a size-reduced peep-show version that falls within the bounds of fair use: At first glance it looks like a toeside, but upon closer inspection it's fully-railed, pinup-quality heelside. The shot captures the moment when it seems that a rider has all but defied the laws of physics.
  10. I saw the TV coverage of Seal on plates a while back - must have been > 6 years ago.
  11. I'll be riding Monday-Friday, Wednesday I'll be at Snowmass.
  12. The Warren Miller Videology of Hardbooting is up: http://www.alpinecarving.com/warren It's been a while since carving last made an appearance, despite the fact that carving is one of the most photogenic aspects of snowboarding. I could not get the names/spelling for some riders/locations - If anyone can get that info from the old Snoworld magazine handouts, let me know. I also put up a U.S. TV schedule of snowboard racing: http://www.alpinecarving.com/tv
  13. I tried using HPD Thermoflex liners in my Burton boots and it met with failure. The boots are size 28, and I got a size 28 HPD liner, but the liner turned out to be too big, even when crushing it during the heat molding process. I should have gone with a size 27 HPD liner. Going -1 on the size may not apply to the lower-end Thermoflex. After that, I bought an Intuition liner, "size 9," and it was the right size.
  14. I added a carving video review page to The Carver's Almanac: http://www.alpinecarving.com/videos/ These are VHS/DVD videos that are relatively easy to get (no vintage tapes). There are currently 23 reviews, with 3 more reviews coming soon.
  15. Here ya go. I made it with Adobe Illustrator at actual size. The total size is what they want (13" wide). The white box is the approximate outline of the board. It's vector so the output image can be any DPI, and can be easily embellished with other details/images.
  16. Fifty shows a few shots of Will Garrow carving at Whiteface.
  17. Which begs the question: will Fin have a tandem snowboard available for use during the SES? Like this one: http://www.snowboard.dk/tandemsnowboarding.htm -Scott
  18. You mean like this: http://www.onboard.ru/content/?id=250
  19. There is additional reading material in The Carver's Almanac.
  20. Alpine Trader at Mt. Snow sells DeeLuxe hard boots.
  21. Here is my experience: 1. I ordered a board on Klugriding.com and got an email confirmation with the subject "Klug Riding Order Confirmation 12xx," and the message "Thanks for your order. If you have any questions, please contact us at info@burton.com!" No information other than that - Make sure you print out the confirmation web page. 2. A week went by, and I noticed that my credit card had not been charged. So, I sent email to sales@klugriding.com. Chris himself responded to the email ... by forwarding it to Burton. The proform gal at Burton responded by saying that "the board is no longer available." I found this odd, because the board was still listed as available on the Klugriding web site. I was a bit peeved that they cancelled my order without notifying me. The Klugriding web site seems to be about a week late in updating its inventory. 3. But I ordered a different board anyway, hoping I would select a board that happened to still be available. I ordered a board, and checked with the proform gal to make sure it was really in stock. It appears that Klugriding only takes orders. Everything else - billing, inventory, shipping, returns, customer service - is handled by Burton. 4. A week went by, and I noticed that my credit card had not been charged. So, I sent email to the proform gal, and she said that for some reason she could not figure out, the order was put on hold. So, she rushed the board out via overnight FedEx for no extra charge. 5. I got the board, and the charge on my credit card was about $20 more than the grand total listed on the Klugriding confirmation web page that I had printed out. Apparently, tax is added when goods are shipped to CA, NY, VT, MA and WA. This is not mentioned on the final confirmation web page that shows the "grand total." The tax is mentioned on one of the order form web pages, but I didn't notice it. The Klugriding site is not set up to calculate tax that is applied to orders. If anyone is having problems, let me know and I'll connect you with the proform gal at Burton. A bumpy process, but I now have a Burton Speed 168W (22.5 cm waist) that I hope to use as a poor man's SWOARD. There is a possibility that a Burton Dealer can order this stuff via the Burton Dealer web site at https://dealer.burton.com/default.asp in which case you might avoid the shipping costs if the shop also happens to be ordering other stuff from Burton as well. The dealer web page also probably has real-time inventory status.
