Stephane,I've been abusing a pair of step-ins identical to your 2nd photo for the last 12 years or more.I rode them Saturday on my rock-board...still work fine and they're more stiff than the pair in your first pic.I'm pretty sure the disc and base-plates are different materials.

I believe the camber was symmetrical throughout the length of the board,but i could be wrong-that was a while ago.Wish I'd held onto that board,would've been a great wall-hanger with its trippy drunken- Zebra-stripe base.
