  1. jt, his two friends and myself hit the lift at 8 a.m. conditions were superb right off the bat. great cover, great carving, great visibility under the bluebird skies and tower #4 got looped a few times. zerog was good too. attacked sugar. it was all good. :) then we went over to granite and that is a great way to escape the crowds as there is great carving to be had right off the lift onto Devil's bit (which resembles lower straightaway... ie; its a narrow but good carver.). and then you zoom into the hole at mach1, up and out, bank right and you had nice rollers to help the carves as you go back to the lift. I give it all big thumbs up. I'll be at hunter tomorrow. enjoy the creek.
  2. more often than not in the northeast, a big dump is accompanied by a clearing high pressure system moving through the next day. and that means you get to your favorite ski area and the summit lifts are not running because of high winds so, you take the intermediate lifts halfway up the mountain and board down at 7 mph :p
  3. ahhh... you need to borrow the Burton Fish for conditions like that. its impossible to bury that nose and it carves remarkably well on soft hardpack (and remarkably bad on hard hardpack :D ). I'll wax it up.
  4. that turn is not really a 360. its a 180 carve, a cruise straight uphill, and then a flat board right turn just as your momentum sags off completely. sometimes I have to give it a little hop to get it to point it back downhill too. two issues make it hard to do a true 360 on that obstacle: one: you have a significant uphill climb to overcome. two: there is not enough snow cover on upper left side so you are stuck doing an elliptical orbit around it. so just get her to slingshot up the left side, straight back uphill and past the tower. if you can do that you just did it ! the rest is just minor tuning and tweaking (and a hop if you have to). ((flex on my board: http://www.the-house.com/9858rojdm9zz-rossignol-snowboards.html ) ... you really can't compare board flexes directly from soft to hard boots. hard boots make any given board turn much sharper than soft boots. my board, the 158 Jdub, would just crumble under hard boot power ))
  5. oh man... I WANT THAT on my board !! what an idea !!
  6. raw footage was great. made me smile, that's one of my 360 spots, exactly where he did the 270 toeside. to get the horsepower for a good one you really have to be tucked at least 1/2 way down. try tower #4 on the cab. its a great toeside attack. the trick is to not carve when you get back alongside the tower on the uphill. just let it sail straight uphill till you realize you are high enough now to let the natural lay of the slope complete it for you. its easier than a 270 because after 180 you just stop carving, stand upright and sail uphill past the tower, then a lazy turn with gravity and you coast right around it. the only trick about it is .... you have to be screaming coming in lol... but that's the fun part. cheers !
  7. now that is a great pic !!!! who's idea was that ? they certainly earned a free beer :D looks like no softboots for me with this crew. I better STEP UP to the plate. c u next ride.
  8. sorry, couldn't make it this morning. my wrist acted up overnight and its swollen pretty bad again. with that and the wednesday morning rain / flat light I could not get myself to mc. ride report ? (( hi Eric, long time no see. hope to see u out this year too. I'll bring hard boots if weekday. give me a heads up some "good cover" bluebird morning. can't ruin my loaner Donek FC. Its a beauty ! Ken... ))
  9. hmmm.. nice. I guess, from motocross, I'm more concerned with my femur sticking out of my riding pants (seen more than my fair share of those accidents on the track). that's why I look uphill A LOT if I am riding like a jerk (ie; consuming the whole slope with no regard to anyone upslope of me). one thing I have learned from this complex thread... deny, deny, deny and deny again. "I was just riding down the slope sir and I was hit from behind:. 2nd thing I have learned: if the victim has a GoPro on his helmet. smash it! its the only thing that could make you lose in court.
  10. Tues morning 2/14. Great cover, packed powder everywhere, excellent smooth groom, hero snow for sure ! Enjoy !!
  11. Actually, I don't find anything odd about that board at all. I slalom ski 6 days a week in the summer and you'll find that the more your feet are pointed forward the more you need your rear heal to dynamically lift slightly to give you a powerful, balanced stance. That's why you will find some pro slalom skiers actually prefer a rear "toe plate" to a "rear boot" (myself included). Goode Water skis has it wired. They offer this option (dynamic heel lift) with their hard shell water ski bindings. I skied with two conventional boots and felt too stiff and awkward with it (much like somebody on a skwal looks). So I have always skied with a rear toe plate for good attack balance. But this past season I modified my rear boot to allow my heal to rise several inches while skiing. Wham ! That is the hot setup. So,,, the above video is not odd at all to me and I have often looked at Bomber Bindings and thought they are missing one thing: that tele heal lift (especially if you expect to ride a narrow virus or a skwal). But live and learn. Someday in the future it will be here. "The GOODE PowerShellTM 5 Double Boot System features two hard boots on a single G-10 Composite plate, Boot Rotation System and adjustable rear double spring heel hold down system. The double spring system allows your rear foot heel to raise which adds Power to your edge change behind the boat. During a fall, both boots release on a single plate." http://goode.com/waterskiboots.htm
  12. honestly, I have never seen a skier make a hard turn (including ski racers). ever. all they can do is "banana turns" at speed. true, they often consume the entire slope but you can easily get on a side of them and shout "left/right, etc" and they slowly banana turn the other way. I don't see how a skier could possibly be relevant as a downslope hazard. As an upslope hazard they are the perfect storm.
  13. I made it to CB saturday. parked right next to bus stop by Glen lodge. Got on slope about 10 a.m. As we stood in front of Glen lodge, trying to figure out which lift to take, we saw 2 massive collisions between beginners (going downslope from the bunnies, and perpendicular traffic coming of the park lifts). This one adult "girl one girl" smash was for the record books !! WOW It was overwhelming, to be honest, trying to navigate with the crowds dictating the lifts we took up. After some false starts we finally found our best bet to be the double in front of the main lodge. The blacks off the top were already sporting mini moguls so carving up there was not too rewarding. You can come smoking off the bottom of the black and start pumping those awesome flats but the crowds there dictated your lines and the snow was really bumped out. Roller, dirt bike type "whoop dee doos" that got worse as you approached the end of the run and could get you into serious trouble if you let them take you by surprise in the flat light and intense traffic. Honestly, that mountain would be a good carving time mid-week on a bluebird day. The best feature of the mountain is those green "slow skiing" signs that site lonesome in the middle of those big, flat areas (right after a black descent). You could just smoke a 360 around them with no consequences if you blew it up. Of course, on Saturday it was doable, but you had to wait out the crowds and there were mini moguls all around them. But that just raised the bar. It was a fun hammering away at them. Lots of fun things going on in the bars and out on the decks. Lots of friendly staff on mountain. Lots of smiling people. And there were so many people apparently learning to ski or board that you just laughed until it hurt watching all the action. Especially by King Tut !! Looked for orange ski pants and hardboots constantly. Not a one was spotted, not a single line in the snow Anyway, we will always remember camelback. My daughter's boyfriend proposed to her at the base of the main lodge double chair ! And the whole place was cheering with us .. And then, we got that $9 buffet at the Mount Airy with our lift tickets. Man, was that ever worth it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. Hey, thanks for that ! Nothing like the skier's responsibility code to help clear things up  do the math: on the right side the uphill skier has a speed of 40 mph, downhill rider a speed of 35 mph, = 5 mph closing on the left side the uphill skier has a speed of 40 mph, downhill rider a speed of 15 mph, = 55 mph closing does anyone on this site seriously think you could escape ? if so, you need to sit down and think about "55 mph" for a few more minutes.
  15. I finally understand your avatar sbs ! ;)
  16. that place can be vicious. learned my lesson there once. honestly, its a good idea to bring a weapon when you go there. at least a can of mace. now if I go there I only travel at mach 1 (they like that). how could you see someone spit at you from the chairlift
  17. I'll definitely b there. not sure of the equipment yet. I'll look for a hardboot crowd with orange pants. My gear does not stand out. But my grey goatee certainly does. And if I see lines I'll do my best to criss-cross them up so you know another bomber is on the hill. Saturday.
  18. U guys b on soft or hard gear ? Maybe i bring the donek fc. Is there enough cover not to ruin my hb loaner ?
  19. you know, it looks like I will be there Saturday for sure. Hunter is closer (my home mountain really) but there is a family party I have to attend on the CB mountain for the b4bc charity. I'll be on soft boots as I am anticipating LARGE crowds there (hopefully I am wrong in that guess!). I like the idea of Marjie's, I love to rip wide, flat areas after descending at high speed off a black. cheers, carves and all that other good stuff.
  20. this post was set to self-destruct after 3 hours...hope ya all read it ! bye bye post
  21. you appear to have done everything right... except i would have started the video after the uphill glance.
  22. Amen I ways check upslope and calculate how much time i hav b4 the risk becomes too great to lay unpredictable carves or slope consuming carves. A compound fracture would ruin summer mx for me. Just not worth that risk to me.
  23. ohhh.. talk about a yard sale .. Same thing happened to me 13 years ago at Stratton. took full impact into back of helmet, probably the skiers forearm. thank god for that brain bucket. glad you ok.
  24. what the snow like out there off the groomers in Park City ? I'm coming out there the end of February with intent of glades boarding all week on my Burton Fish. Is there enough snow off the groomers to enjoy the trees and bowls ?? thanks in advance !!
