  1. surely a higher stance angle on the rear foot would encourage your rear knee to wedge behind the front one during a carve, effectively forming a triangle thus reducing balance, this is old school tech that is now proven to be inferior, especially on loose, uneven surfaces. then again i could well be wrong about your rear knee wanting to get closer to the front one
  2. Do any of you guys think/agree that it could be dangerous listening to tunes whilst riding. Can imagine it being due to less concentration, aware- one of your senses has been rendered useless, especially important on heelside blindside, usually u can hear ppl approaching but with music on i don't know. what are your feelings on the matter? am asking as i would like to ride with music but have not done so for safety- just resort to singing to myself.
  3. yeah no worries i gathered it was a reply to the post 'Getting a friend into carving...1st step all mtn carver ' Yeah basicslly a decent all mountain board that is suitable for jumps. thanks for the help.
  4. Thanks to all for the replies.Has anyone got any idea of prices? For season passes to resortys mentioned, accomodation, food etc? Ie how much would it cost for 6 weeks ish?(all in) Many thanks for all the help
  5. Really want to do a season, at least 6 weeks but because i am at uni it is not feasible due to work unless i go in the summer. Now what are the options? Glacier skiing in alps, new zealand, chile possible-Randy?What other options are there? What months are the seasons for these places? Cost? Anyone done a summer season? Cheers
  6. Firstly i would try shifting your weight back at the end of the turn as was mentioned earlier, this works great at keepin the tail nailed. Also if you physically push down on the board with ur legs when your weight is back you will induce awesome pop. If angles reduced to 47 i feel it will be harder for you on heelside to avoid sitting on the toilet syndrome and thus harder to effectively pressure the edge of the board. Get someone who knows about carving and what sitting on the toilet looks like to watch you, firstly beforer angle changes and after, it i slikely your butt will b out more with lower angles but u never know.....
  7. My friend is going to get into carving he just does'nt know it yet! He has been boarding for a few years and is looking for a new board. Am thinking on the lines off 4x4, axis or allmountain. They are all good boards, he's about 6" and 75kg so was thinking 170cmish length. He does jumps as well and wondered what these boards ability was like with regards to this? Thanks!
  8. Been to tignes, three valleys several times, can't go wrong.Val Thorens is higher than Meribel and Courchevel(s) butr is often more crowded, Meribel is a good location to stay as you are between val and courchevel. In my opinion Courcheval is the best for carving out of the three as it has better grooming, ie more chord not mash potato ****. The pistes are wide too. This opinion was seconded by a racer who works in a rental shop on the main street in val thorens, he rides a volant excel 175cm so keep a look out for him. Hope this helps. I am at bath uni so get good deals with them, usually to 3 valleys so would not know about package deals.
  9. Just bust my current hold all (just a cheap one though) bent the wheels and was dragging the bitch on the Parisian metro of all places....sod's f*cking law. Anyways am looking for a hold all with wheels and towing handle that is bombproof. Will use it for boarding trips and all sorts. Any ideas? cheers
  10. For that price you cant go wrong.............
  11. Cheers for the repliesd am going to get on the case and sort them out. Kent, how long will it take to develop these 'Super Nails.' Firstly I will re-mould the liners with a neoprene cap and develop super nails. If that fails I will get the boot mould stretched/altered and hopefully that will do it. I think my 2nd strap is always tight, just how i like it. Bring on the snow.....
  12. Barry, What is your weight? Just thinking if its a 159 its quite short and that u will prob overflex it in turning. Don't know the sidecut or stiffness off hand of the board though.
  13. I went boarding in January and tried my new boots for the 1st time- Raichle SB 324's(with thermo liners). When i had them moulded i used an old ski sock and cut it up to make a toe box for moulding. Then started boarding and realised that when i lent back(end of turn, etc) my big toe on leading foot(left) was pressing hard against the boot. After a week of this i had a massive blood blister under the nail which was frikcin painful and eventually made the nail come off. My question is how to amend this for next season? Do i just re-mould the liners with more toe space?Get the boot heated up and actually change the shape of the toe section? Or just never lean back? Thanks for the help

  15. Awesome selection of movies, congrats http://stoked.at/
  16. weight, foot size are also needed as well as height, for instance i fyou have very large feet a narrow board <19cm waist would not be good. supply these details and replies will follow .....hopefully
  17. If(chip) it is modelled on a simple DOF eqn what would happen if the excitation frequency equalled the natural frequency and thus resonance occurs, wouldnt this damage the gizmo in the board, or woulkd natural damping stop the amplitude increasing too much? cheers
  18. its kind of tough, not only am i in the UKbut being a student( Bath uni) its tricky dodging work and then there is the cash aspect. will prob buy sum videos depending on shipping costs.
  19. i see your point and that is confirmed by mant recent posts in which different styles and techniques have been discussed. Liek you said 1st get good at 'perfect' one- like CMC then develop your own expression of your style.
  20. i reckon they would be but want to kniow 4 sure as am shipping to the UK. also when is ECES 04 coming out? cheers
  21. i went freom a 165 nidecker escape with 9m side to a prior 185 wcr with 14m, talk about different!
  22. i ment aligned with angles on heeliside , not square.
  23. like the post above said length is not the only parameter that will determine the riding characteristics
  24. Take this example....... imagine you had really small feet so you could ride with angles in say the 30's without overhang, thus like u said obtaining maximum leverage, however when u go on a heelside carve what will happen? surely with these angles it would be hard to square urself up with the tip of the board, thus u will be riding more like a softbooter and your ability to effectively pressurize the heelside edge(due to toilet syndrome becuse of stance) will decrease - not good thoughts ?
  25. it depends on your preferences, people argue for narrower waists because the board is quicker and more responsive to turn- other ppl argue for wider waists..... but i guess that if average angles are like 57 deg then for your size foot it would be about a 18.5 cm waist that would leave you pretty close but with no overhang. bit of a strange thread really...........anyways
