  1. I'm keeping both the Proton and the Factory Prime for now. The FP is complete madness, but had a lot of fun on it... I would like to try it some more on nicely groomed snow...

Yeah, you were booking it crazy fast on that FP. You'll definitely like things more on some nice groom for both boards, especially that FP.

The next 2 weeks should be good if we don't get anymore rain/snow.

  2. bar anymore rain, there should be no excuse, Erwin. Conditions are awesome. Although, I know, surfer first, and snowboarder second, so if the surf is nice...

As for Terry, I actually saw you once from the lift early early morning, like right when they open. I think a whole bunch of you were taking the cat-track over to 7 and 10.

Luca, it was nice meeting you. Get a shorter/softer board and try to control the speed a bit more. I used to do what you were doing - it caught up with me eventually. Be careful out there, these setups definitely are not as forgiving.

  3. To everyone who made it up there, it was good seeing and riding with you. Hopefully we can have another unofficial gathering again this season.

It wasn't a carving day, but it was fun anyway. Lots of powder to go around, and once that got chopped up, well, it gave me a good surface to test out Bruce' board. Excellent, probably the board that i've felt the most comfortable on in hardboots with those conditions.

Oh yeah, and Theo, I know you probably went to Baldy, but USASA was up and they held the races.

  4. I will also be a no-show. No chains, so I'll be watching the Super Bowl instead.

What, you still haven't ordered parts yet?

Oh well, I think our list has been cut by 4 people. Eh, I missed last year's gathering. In any case, i'm going up to go boarding. I'll see whoever is up there.

Aaron, I'm gonna try out your raceplates completely flat, no 7* wedge for the rear. If it works out, I may have to work out some deal with you.

  5. Hold on, still doing a bit of evaluating... I'm not ready to give up the TDs just yet.

My legs are sore (more so than normal, and they weren't the last time up, with the same board but different bindings), especially my left (front) leg. I'm not sure if that's from turning tighter arcs on a more consistent basis or if it's because I'm on a 7* disk rear and a running flat up front, which is naturally putting me in a stance to transfer weight forward.

  6. yeah, my 145 lbs. doesn't really need stiff burly bindings

I think I might have been better off buying F2 Ti race plates to begin with instead of TD2s, now upgraded to TD2.5s

It's not to say that they're bad, I just think they might be overkill for me, and more than I really need.

  7. Yeah, second day on it. I tried it with my TD2.5s and with Aaron's Burton race plates.

I think I make have to buy those raceplates from him :1luvu:

The combo of the board and the raceplates, wow. The board can turn arcs tighter than what i've been able to do before on a consistent basis, and is equally comfortable rocketting you out into the next turn if you jump on the tail a bit at the end.

I'm happy. All I can say is quiver killer (3 boards that is). I have my rock board, I have the Coiler for everything except powder, and maybe the Tanker that I broke can still handle powder...

  8. I don't know anything about kiting, but as far as the board specs you're looking for. The newer tankers would fit that bill, as would a Donek Incline.

If anything, go for the Incline since it hasn't been out sourced to cheap labor and is still cheaper than a Tanker anyway.

Steepwater also makes twin tips in that range, the Plow would probably pretty nice.

Another board in that range would be an Osin/Dynastar 3800 if you can find one.

That's pretty much all I can think of.

  9. it's the OS2s and the fr2s that are a issue.

even with the D3, Bruce of coiler mentioned it as well as prior people and it's come up here.

very small surface area smaller in fact than the older cateks similar to the td1

put a lexan plate under it and you're good to go.

I ride a lexan plate under my fr2s even.

That makes sense. I broke a Tanker 182 07-08 model (white top sheet) while riding FR2s on it. The break was similar to the one seen on my 04-05 192 model - base was all cracked and raised up along the p-tex designs. Granted, that board saw much harsher riding and had a collision with another boarder earlier in the season 2 riding days before the break.

  10. Eh, me and that Donek... it's like oil and water. Today was not a good Donek day.

    Me: 1

    Donek: 6

I can say for certain that when i'm on the Donek, I'll take bullet proof ice over warm conditions. Even slightly wet with some slurp is horrid on that board. Tanker would have handled today's conditions like a champ. I'll chalk it up to 35% gear and 65% rider input, although had I been on the Tanker...

One weekend without it and I already miss it. The Donek is fun, but only for the first 2 hours or so of the day, and only if the temps stay down and don't turn to mashed potatoes
