  1. That's pretty gnarly looking. I feel your pain (well, not right now, but i'm familiar with it).

In any case, heal up, but don't rush it. And most important to the whole process - stay positive. It's really easy to get down and depressed and/or pissed off about the situation. You'll be back at it soon enough, things will get better.

  2. I saw these in person today. They're pretty sweet. I'd definitely be up for a production run of these.

Catek FR2s have way too many screws and moving parts to maintain, which isn't necessarily a problem unless you have the problem of zero customer support... As long as customer support stays in tact, then the FR2 will stay in tact. That said, they're still my top softboot binding for now - and even WHEN the Bomber soft boot adaptor comes out, it'll still just be a riser system, which is great. You can use any softboot binding you want with it, even Catek FR2s for double riser (which I think is a bad idea).

As for hollowing them out to shave weight, if check out the underside of the plate that Andrea showed, you can see the potential points for cutting out and shaving weight.

  3. Sure. Should I bring the 66mm zigzags?

And also, would you like to work on stand up slides?

I want to start getting into stand-ups and that.

Yeah, you should probably bring the wheels so you'll have something to use with the board. As for stand up slides, I'd like to start working on toe side coleman slides first, although I wouldn't mind trying out stand ups.

  4. I'll probably be up there depending on how beat up I am after this Saturday.

Julian, I'll bring up some narrower trucks for the Axe slalom board if you're interested in trying them out - Bennett 5.0 for the front and a Randall 125 for the rear. I just need a favor, can you take the wheels off? I'm probably gonna put them up on eBay or The Fish to be sold. Thanks.

  5. Damn!!!

Heal up fast George. You should be up and at it by the time next season comes around.

Shoot me an email if you need a referal to a good Orthopaedic doctor (or medical group of Ortho docs) - they're located in West Covina off of the 10 freeway.

Nice one with the recovery of the precious Kessler :biggthump

  6. I have to say that I personally hate S9 wheels. :biggthump

So have fun with that. :p

How much? I'm pretty poor atm.

    Saving up for something.

The slalom board is fun, wish I had narrower trucks and a shorter wheelbase. :eplus2:

    $20

I'll bring some Bennett 5.0s. I also have a Tracker RTS in 125mm, Randal II in 125mm and a Seismic hanger in 130mm. I'll bring them up.

  7. Yeah, that drive was probably just as fun as the carve session was. The Arctic Circle was nice too, pretty open and clear on the way down, and lucky me that I left at the time I did. I saw a Civic SI pulled over by the Chippies, few minutes earlier and it could've been me.

Julian, if you're interested in some Earthwing superballs 76mm (the black ones - now discontinued) at a dirt cheap price, let me know. I'm probably going to pick up some S9 race formula wheels for my LDP board.

BTW, how's the slalom board treating you?

  8. FYI, the NEW best way to get up the mountain if you're coming from the West.

HWY 18, Waterman Ave, off of the 210, which turns into Rim of the World Hwy (still the 18). The end of it dumps you off right at Running Springs, and since most people aren't taking that way either, you get to take 16 turns full out too. And then when you get to outer the rim up top, that's pretty clear too.

Now THAT is a fun drive, way better than the 38 IMO. It probably only took me around 20min longer than the front side to get down the mountain, and it dumps me farther West than the 38.

As for the get together, I'll just bring the two other longboards that I have.

  9. Well while you guys are snowboarding, I just woke up....at 10:15 ;)

Apparently its 53* up there right now.

Looks like the season for summit is coming to and end....

Hope its going good, I'll be checkin' the summit photos online to see if you guys pop up. :biggthump

I'll be in a recording studio in an hour and a half to record my bands first EP!

    Who's gunna buy one? :biggthump

Conditions were super icy, but nice for carving while it lasted. I boarded till abut 11:30 then took off when it started to get really heavy and wet. Everyone else continued boarding throughout the day. Andrea moved over to softies.

I have to hear you on the radio before I buy, you know, so I know that there's at least one good song on the CD... hehe JK

  10. Hey Luca,

Use some of this on your board http://tognar.com/base_repair_tools_iron_ptex_gouges_damage.html

The slow (8 to 24 hour) curing time provides a more flexible bond without sacrificing strength, and it dries crystal clear or can be colored with pigments to match ski or snowboard cosmetics. Especially recommended for delaminations, gluing in base patches , or any other applications where flexibility is paramount. If necessary, you can accelerate the curing time by applying judicious heat with a heat lamp or gun, but never exceed 200 degrees F. Two tubes make 6 oz total</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

  11. PS. When does the BOMBER TD SB1 binding arrive for the public??

This I would definitely like to see. As much as I love my Catek FR2s, they just have way too many screws and moving parts. It's an Engineer's dream, and an end user's nightmare when it comes to maintenance and checking parts...

I can't even find a certain replacement binding part on the Catek site and just had to mickey mouse something together - it's been holding up, though, just not ideal.

  12. Sounds good, I'll mark my callendar. I'll bring beer, and uhhhh, something else. I haven't figured out exactly what yet.

If i bring cooked food it may go bad in the car (and if I made it, chances are it'll be bad before that... haha).

I'll bring some sort of meat, maybe like carne asada type of thing, will need to be grilled at your place.

  13. I am on the "crotch rocket". Ducati 996 to be exact. Got to find a way to haul ass and carve in the summertime :).

nice. I can see how your back might feel a little something the next day.

You should pick up a longboard, you can join us for some longboarding sessions and meet us half way. we've gone boarding in the mission viejo area right before the season started.

  14. I sent an email to Da Man (Bruce) that built the board that's been making me look good lately (and of course everyone's critique of my riding with pointers is most helpful)... hehe

    Part of his response:

Not sure what the TC means? The T means tight sidecut which actual #s are 10/12.7/12m

The "C" I don't remember but it may be a 0 as teh # should be 164 VSR T 010AC1 and then the last 2 digits are the stiffness #

Also on occasion when the board is an early one in a series, I still have not standardized the serial #s so that may be another possibility.

Thanks again for the info, the word is spreading and I am already booked till Sept so if you ever want another board, order early as I have no plans to change or speed things up as the results are good as is.

    BV

So, if you want a board, get in line quick. Also, since mine was an early/experimental model, he's since split between a carve version of mine and a more all-mountain version of mine. Apparently mine is the more carve oriented version (still awesome for all-mountain IMO, especially since I don't ever go off trail anymore). The AM version should be more friendly for going off trail.

  15. BTW Raceplates are fine for metal as long as you're within the weight range and using a topsheeted board. From the Man himself.

Using topsheeted board with raceplates. As of today, I weighed in at 143.0 lbs. (I randomly stepped on a scale today). I highly doubt I'm exceeding weight ranges and will break anything (although the Tanker 192 breaking surprised me:().
