  1. I walked out of my dorm to get breakfast the other day and it was -5 degrees out, but about -30 or -35 with the windchill. Hair froze about 10 steps out of the door. that was a fun day of classes. Coldest day of riding was a few weeks ago, not sure of temp, but I think I heard about -20 with wind. some frostbite on teh face but nothing too bad
  2. I started boarding in 4th grade, so about 9 or 10 - kind of late I guess. When I was learning to board, my brother started to pick up skiing, and he was only 4 or 5 at the time. I definitely agree that starting at about 4 or 5 is not too young, as he was able to start slowly, but picked it up really quickly, and now can really rip (all the while being in control) However, I have even more respect for learning to board at that age - it definitely takes a lot more balance/rotation/power to learn to board, and those are some things that are hard to get a hold of at a young age. I've only seen a few kids that old learning to board, many more learning to ski - so congrats jtslalom, thats great.
  3. I'll be at sunday river with the family these 3 days - anybody else going to be up there??
  4. last minute stuff came up and i had to bail out this weekend, how was the snow?
  5. I think I should be back up there this sunday - anyone else?
  6. I soft-booted for 10 years, but by no means am I an expert/at the level to teach BUT, one exercise that I like to do on my own to hone my skills is to hold my forearms vertical in front of me, with my hands about chest level. This stops my arms from moving at all during turns. I then try to keep my upper body as stiff as possible. This makes it so that all my turn comes from ankles/knees, and some movement in the hips to get a tighter turn. Still, I am leading with the ankles/knees, and the hips follow after the ankles/knees initiate the turn. I've mentioned this to a few people that i've boarded with, and they've found that it really helps them make tighter/easier turns. it works for me, but any comments on the style?
  7. the conditions were awesome. two and a half feet of powder, really fluffy. However, the wind was a bitch - they had a bunch of the lifts closed in the morning due to the wind, and when they did open them up, the lift rides were horrible b/c of it. the snow made up for that though - ton of fun. there should be plenty of snow left for this weekend. I'm heading to sunday river with my soft boots to meet up with a friend though - enjoy the loaf..
  8. I'm skipping 3 classes tomorrow and heading to the mountain - anyone going to be up there?
  9. The 330 is such a nice car. I know how fast the 325 excelerates, so I can only imagine how much faster the 330 is with its bigger engine. Now a nice car :1luvu: ... BMW M6 ... http://www.motiontrends.com/2006tm/m02/bmw1/m6_hamann.shtml
  10. I've got an old two blade - the blades are cheaper. I've had no problem with razor burn, but it doesnt shave that closely. I also got one of the 5 blade razors in the mail, and it worked great - but I was too cheap to go buy new blades until I at least run out of the old one
  11. I hope to be back up there that weekend as well. hopefully the workload around here stays low and its not a problem to skip out for the 4th sunday in a row
  12. mercedes are heavy anyways. Definitely go with a beamer. Way faster/better control for the money. My dad had an '85 325e until last year - I wanted them to keep it so I could drive it, but mom came up with the old, no air bag - no driving. I got to drive it a few times though, even at twenty years old it could still rip it up. Hit about 70-75 in 3rd, and thats when I was learning to drive stick - probably could have gotten it goin faster if I really knew what I was doing. After I cracked up my dad's car he decided to finally buy himself a new car (previously bought used) and went back to BMW. Got a 325xi, manual - great car. My family's never owned a Lexus, but have heard that some of them in the past few years have had major problems (often the SUVs). However, a friend has had one for about 5 years - no problems I've heard of so far. Still, for the money, my vote goes to the BMW. an M5 sure would be nice... I guess I'll just have to stick with bumming rides to the mountains for now though
  13. I made the switch about 4 years ago, and have never looked back. Not to start an argument with Pebu (well, kind of) - but I have found Macs much more user friendly. It seems to me that all basic processes are much simpler, easier to find, etc. For example, loading new software on a PC often takes a full page of steps to get the program running - on a Mac you throw the disc in and it basically installs itself. However, if you are programming or gaming, PC is the way to go. Any video/music editing is for Mac Normal day-to-day work, (word processing, email, internet, etc) - I would sitl go with Mac... They are getting faster every day, I have never had a virus on either of the laptops I've had in the last 5 years, and their customer service is superb. If you buy the applecare, any problem (and I mean ANY problem) is taken care of, usually withing 3-4 days total. I am not positive about the USB hard drives - but that could probably be easily answered over the phone with Mac. Just thought of this - if you were going to have to format/erase the hard drive, you might be able to transfer the info from the hard drive to an ipod, and then take it off the ipod onto the mac... I would never go back to PC, unless I needed one for programming or something, but even then I'd try to do it all on my mac until it became impossible for some reason (I dont know if it would). So there's my two cents
  14. conditions were good. they had just gotten about 6 inches the day before. Pretty empty all day too, especially after lunchtime. We stayed on spillway side of the mountain for the morning - that had great snow all morning. Then I went to the superquad side later in the afternoon - that had gotten pretty skied off. Ross
  15. Nice showing today at sugarloaf - 4 guys in total... Who's gonna be at sugarloaf this coming weekend? I'll most likely be there this sunday. Meet at the bottom of spillway around 915/930 again?
  16. sweet - Im on a blue coiler as well...
  17. I'll be heading up sunday - the 4th. You guys want to meet up and ride together at least for a while?
  18. Hey everybody, any maine boarders around here? anyone going up to sugarloaf this sunday? or next? I'm definitely going up this sunday, and probalby next sunday as well. actually, I'll be trying to go to at least every other weekend. usually sugarloaf, sometimes sunday river. If you can make it, or are alreay heading up - let me know. I'm a beginner so you'll probably be way ahead of me ...
  19. I started rugby this year, and have gotten hit pretty hard in the quad a few times. if you just rub the spot where it hurts, the knot, it will eventually loosen up. usually takes a week to really go away though. Stretch a lot, rub it, tiger balm before doing anything, ice it after .... make sure to warm up a lot - it loosens up quickly and stops hurting after a while and stay away from stairs - they suck
  20. Performance Downhill. 49 Lafayette Rd Hampton Falls, NH 03844 a small snowboard shop in NH, they might have some old burton stuff lying around. At least worth a phone call - nice guys
  21. My uncle is a big watch guy - but most of the watches he buys are replicas. replicas are no longer the crappy kind you can buy on the street of NY, but they are actually really well made. a lot of them now come with the perpetual (self-winding) movement, made with either Swiss or Chinese ETA movements - the chinese used to be a little bit worse, but they are getting better a good replica can go anywhere from 60 bucks to 300/400. if anyone is interested, replicacollector.com is a great place - a lot like BOL. just join and then you can buy replicas - much better deal than buying a real omega/rolex...
  22. but when I first asked for suggestions on sizing/boots, here is what i was told, hopefully this is in some way helpful...: multiple people told me not to use the lemans, as I would find them too soft, too fast, recommended the suzukas instead also, they suggested that I stay in the 160 range, and I'm only 160-165 lbs, and 5'8"... so maybe 170's would be better since you're 6'2"?
  23. there is a donek axis posted for sale as well. deal might be closing up tho..
