  1. I'd love to meet the other MA hardbooters - I've been up in Maine so I've only met people at sugarloaf/Sunday River. I get out May 19th'ish...so I could make it if its later, or for round 2 if it turns out to be a series
  2. I've heard that they constantly need "little" fixes (and being mostly manufactured in europe, these little fixes end up costing a lot)
  3. being given a(n) (extensively) used car is one thing ... but I think a $35,000 "gift" is a little much.
  4. Seersucker can be worn well and not be too preppy. but, it works best when you combine it ALL at the same time.
  5. cant forget the loafers, popped collar, nantucket red pants, and maybe some seersucker suits.
  6. My dad used to own an '85 325e, then recently bought a 328xi (it does work great in the snow, I'd really recommend upgrading the xi, especially if it will be used to get you to the mountain) but, growing up north of boston, i've always tried to stay away from the preppy/stuck up/a$$hole image - b/c there are engouh of them around here already. Having said that, as much as I love driving the 328, i sometimes feel like a dick, cuz I'm some punk 19 year old kid driving around a 30K BMW. BUT, just b/c other people might THINK you are an a$$hole/etc, doesn't make you, or every other BMW driver, one (if people know me and see me driving the bmw, they dont think I'm a a$$hole, maybe for other reasons... )) If you enjoy a nice smooth, fast, responsive ride, and can afford it, why not buy it? These days, there are Hondas that cost more than BMWs, but will never drive as nicely/be as responsive, but of course dont have the a$$hole stigma. If you can get it inspected and its in good shape, who cares about the image, they are awesome cars and hold up really well - go for it
  7. they didnt open either of them thursday either, and thats the day that they got the most snow. conditions were still pretty good though, a little wet and heavy but not bad for April
  8. TOMORROW IS THE DAY TO GO! they're supposed to get 16-24" of powder by tomorrow afternoon on the mountain (sugarloaf). anybody heading up tomorrow? ... come on, skip work. its boring.
  9. not only ankles movement, but leading with your hips and good rotation can give you better turns
  10. Hey John, I have a rugby tournament on Saturday, so if I was able to make it up it most likely wouldnt be until sunday for the day; unless the tournament is cancelled b/c of snow/field conditions. either way, thanks for the offer
  11. I'm heading home this friday night/saturday for my mom's birthday, so doubtful that i'll make it up sunday. Maybe next weekend though. It would be good to bring out the softboots and do some spring boarding. pray, dance, sing, or do whatever you do so the snow gods smile favorably upon us and let the season continue for another month.
  12. how was it up at the loaf this weekend? they stopped running the bus and i couldnt find a ride
  13. broke a wrist in my second year of snowboarding trying to go off a jump. Maybe thats why I switched to carving? that afternoon, I went to the doctor, told him to put a cast on it, and went back out the next day.
  14. Abs too! lots of power in the core - so some lower back stuff and lots of abs exercises
  15. didnt rain much in brunswick either today, but yesterday it rained a bit - sugarloaf's not that far north, so I'm just worried it was raining up there too
  16. I rode my burton indie with hardboots once, and for a relatively stiff board, it was pretty damn washy and soft, and i was using bottom of the line deeluxe's. I'd think that riding a powder board with them would be even worse
  17. Mike - do you know if its actually been raining on the mountain? I'm trying to decide if the 530 wake after a saturday night is worth it or not. And thank you for your input on the board - good to know that its not ALL my lack of experience (though i'm sure thats a good part of it) it seems that since I'm on the eastcoast, the 168 would be a better option, b/c I will rarely have big open bowls, and more likely just be on relatively narrow trails or going off piste into the trees. (please, correct me if i'm wrong) How much do blueb's 4807s go for? We'll see if this really an option, or another wish-list item :( .
  18. very new to hardboots, ridden with them 9 times. Softboots in powder is nothing new, been riding for 10 years in softboots (part of the reason why i thought it would be fun to have a real powder board to use a few times a year); but earlier this year we got 20" of powder one thursday, tried out the coiler/hardboots in that, and yeah, didn't like it that much. I knew people used their hardboots in powder, but I just couldnt really figure out how/why. By the end of the day i had gotten the hang of it, but it wasnt really comfortable and concluded that the next powder day i'd use my other board so i wouldnt be flipping over the nose of the board so often!
  19. D-sub - I had read that its almost split evenly between poeple using hardboots versus soft on powder boards - I'd assume using softboots would be a lot easier since you're doing movements that would seem uncomfortable in hardboots, but also decrease the control you have john - thank you, I'll definitely take you up on that one. maybe get a day in at sunapee again too. and hell, maybe all this rain will turn to snow and this weekend will be worth it
  20. k- I didnt think you could reall "carve" in deep powder, i didnt see how that was really possible. I've looked only a little bit at the tanker, but will look more. are you suggesting the tanker b/c it could be also used as an all mountain board, while a swallowtail is more limited in use? thanks
  21. I've ridden my burton in powder a lot - out west too, so real powder! - but I only started riding alpine/the coiler this year. After realizing that I couldnt put my weight on the nose, I started to move my weight back, but the problem was that I felt I couldnt really carve through my turns in that stance (without putting weight on the nose), but instead was skidding a lot more and acting as though the coiler wasnt an alpine board but a freeride board. I figured that was mostly an issue of experience? That as I get better at carving on the good stuff, I'd be able to carve in powder and not submarine the nose? I'm about 165-167lbs right now. question about the style of riding a powder board - in the powder, do you actually lay out and make a full carve as you would on a groomed slope, or is more the style of using a freeriding board in powder? Or again, personal preference?
  22. the only reason i was thinking about this was b/c we got some good powder days here in the past month or so, and I tried to ride the AM in it and it didnt work too well. This might be completely due to my lack of experience on an alpine board :( , but when I would put weight on the tip when turning, it would automatically dive under the powder, and often end up flipping me. Is there something I can do to keep the tip from dipping under the powder like that? I go to school about 2 hours from sugarloaf and sunday river, and yes I only have 2 boards now (the coiler and a burton - which i've used twice this year, once to keep up with a friend and also on a crappier day)...if this is more an issue of building up my skill set, I'm all for waiting and getting better - just thought a powder board looked like some fun!
  23. maybe i'll bring the burton up and just have a little fun in the mush. 5:30's pretty early though - so maybe not.
  24. I've been thinking of getting a powder board to have some fun on, but how does the sizing change when buying a powder board (most likely a fishtail or swallowtail) - meaning how much longer do you normally buy a powder board than any other board? Im 5'8" riding a Coiler AM 169 - if I was to go witih the Osin 4807 - is a 168 or the 178 the right size?? Also, what angles to people usually ride Pow boards at? Anything else that I'd need to know? I've already read the Carver's Almanac section on powder boards ... Thanks
  25. I was up at sunday river two weekends ago when they got all the snow (kind of sucked actually b/c of how wet and heavy it was) ... but what kind of snow did the loaf get? and does anyone know if they've been getting the rain that Southern Maine is getting? I'm trying to decide if I should head up there this weekend (and what board to bring if I go), but if its raining - not sure if its worth waking up at 5:30....
