ncermak
Area #1 -Though I am not the biggest area, I am one of the oldest (possibly the oldest)continuously run areas in my state. -I was built on the property of a former mink farmer. -On February 10, 1935 nearly 10,000 curious spectators made a trip to watch 447 skiers climb up my pasture and ski down. -I was an early destination for many early ski train riders. -Among those who learned to ski my slopes were Gerald Ford, the nation's first skiing president, writer Lowell Thomas and department store magnate Marshall Field. -I too had an olympic skier that learned to ski and got much of her early training on my slopes. ( I have had 3 US Ski Team members in my history) -My area was the first area to offer night skiing, and my owner is credited with inventing night skiing. mirror70
I want to say Stowe, but the night skiing throws me off. Next guess would be Bosquet, but only because I know you're there :D

Guest Randy S.
Cranmore, no? I have a pair of skis in my garage that have done time on Cranmore during the ski train days. They were my Grandfather's.

ncermak
ok...so I served up a lob with my home mountain... try this one... Area #2 -This area has had at least 3 different names through the course of it's existance. -When it went by the first name, many of the trail names were racing terms. -It's original double chair was unique. -It retained it's second name for only 3-4 years. -This area merged with a near by area. -Both the nearby area and this area closed. -This area is now reopened, but under the near by area's name. LeeW
Hmm. I personally think this topic should be sticky. GREAT historical information! On side note, I've always want to personally ride my motorcycle from Georgetown to Geneva Basin to check it out. Turns out from what I heard from Professor at Colorado Mountain College, there's no ski lifts there anymore. According the lost colorado ski link (thanks D-Sub!), Geneva's haunted. Im kinda freaking out now.

Sounds possibly like the recently reopened Crotched Mountain. I know it had several names and merged into Crotched before over ambitious real estate development in the late 80's drove the area to ruin. I don't recall trail names, but I do recall covered chairs. Dave Pushee
Aww, pish posh. Bunch of you are easterners. Yes, we are, and we are fiendishly clever. I cheated and looked up the answer It wouldn't be fair to give it, but I will say that the tribe mentioned is the Mescalero Apache.
