    Costa Rica

I'm starting to get pretty excited to go, even though it's not till the end of March. It looks like we're gonna go to the Arenal volcano area for a couple of days (smells of impending disaster, HA HA) and then on to the Jaco,Hermosa, Manuel antonio area for the rest (west coast) of the trip for surf and sun. I'll probably start looking at hotels after the holidays and or maybe stay at a surf camp in the hermosa area. I've heard about the petty crime so I'll be sure to keep my belongings close since i'll try and travel light that shouldn't be too much of a problem. Gonna rent a 4WD car to get around in that way we can kinda play it by ear and bounce around a bit. Sorry Michelle...if it's any consolation she's paying her own way, I'd never make a good sugar daddy! Kever--good info! Got any pics you want to share? send them to rustyinnh@yahoo.com

    Costa Rica

So I've just booked a trip with my GF down to Costa Rica for next March for 9 days...(FYI-it's $350R/T w/tax out of Denver till next June on Frontier) Anybody been down there? Looking for any tips and suggestions as to what has to be seen and done, where to stay(non-mega resort is cool by us), where to eat... Some of the things I'm planning on are: hike around Arenal volcano a little surfing (it's been a while for me but the GF loves it) some partying (ok maybe more than some...) lots of general beach time snorkeling some maybe's are... white water raft? zip line tour? ?????? How is the capitol(San Jose)? Since I'm going to have to be there to fly in and out of is it worth checking out? Thanks Rusty

    standing up

I try and do the same thing if the snow is soft...just dig a little platform and wait for the rest of the crew to show up. Also helps incase one of your buddies (Big Mario) is going to bear down on you like a freight train and whitewash the hell out of ya! Same thing for getting into the bindings after getting off the lift...I have old TD1 standards (I know, I know) and find digging a little platform for myself at the top of the run very helpful. If you do it in the right spot (someplace that won't get scraped off or groomed)you can use and improve your launching platform throughout the day or longer.
  12. Well Fin if we're gonna post Bordy pics...here's a beauty after the " body sledding into the hot tub" after party from last SES...someone fell asleep in the wrong room... Come on Billy! Don't make me start telling stories from childhood if you don't show up sucka!!
  13. Sometimes things go wrong in an inherently dangerous sport like snowboarding, what you have to remember while you heal is all the sunny days, stupid jokes on the lift, waking up early for a powder day, eyeballing a carpet of untouched cord, white washing your friends and all the other good things that kept you buying lift tickets and praying for snow in the fall. What you need to do is get back out on the hill as soon as possible, don't let the summer go by with that voice in the back of your head saying "I wonder if I should even bother snowboarding again"...trust me I speak from experiance. 1/9/04 Blew off a trail at Sugarbush in VT 2 broken wrists (one took surgery) 4 broken ribs 1fractured sternum (that one sucked the most) 1 fractured hip bruised lung bruised heart Two weeks in three hospitals, almost three months out of work, six months of physical thearpy. 3/28/04 Rode a freeride deck at Mt. Sunapee in NH...because I wasn't gonna go through the summer with that voice in the back of my head saying "I wonder if I should even bother snowboarding again" Take care. Rusty
  14. Just got nidecker 900 carbons from the boys over at Hardbooter...LOVE THEM!!! Very light, stiff, I find the straps very very comfortable and the carbon highback is asymetrical so you can really get forward on the board during soft carving.

Are those the Nordica's I traded you a couple of years ago?
  16. FYI-- Snowboard Journal is no longer in business...too bad I really liked that mag. The recording says something about Future Snowboarding...
  17. This year I'm riding a 170 Khyber with (older)Nidecker 860 carbon softies...and it's SWEET!!! Lots of float with a big flat nose and short(ish) tail that makes it flickable in tight trees. Oh yea...it rips pretty well on the groomers too! Got it from Hardbooter.com...
  18. I can't say anything about the Lib-tech...but I love my T-6 from last year! It's got a lot of pop and really throws down some carves nicely. I have the 164W (wide) and while it's not exactly flickable because of the width I can screw around with mellow stance angles (mondo 28.5) and it carries my frame (6ft and change and ~220 lbs) very well. Weight is brought down by the honeycomb core and it's got a good all mountain shape. I consider it my go anywhere board...and it's gone everywhere, hence the 5-6 core shots in the bottom. heh heh heh...but I'm not nice to my snowboards.
  19. FYI- If your in the sunapee area down behind the sunbowl chair there is a storage area/graveyard/summer trailhead. There are more than a couple of old double chairs that are sitting there doing nothing. Two years ago when I worked there (before moving to CO) I got the OK to grab a couple. They looked like they were still in decent shape and the mountain was happy to get rid of em'. Might be worth asking... Rusty
  20. Day 15 already?!?! Damn... Girl, you are turning into my Bomer forum heroine! ha ha ha...no seriously. Rusty
  21. All those crazy carving kids bought the 200's... sheeeet $40 some odd bucks for a nice bag...I'm in...
  22. anyone know a good online shop for SPY replacement lenses?? I just got the Soldier and need a flatlight lens.
  23. I've got the 5-mountain just because it made sense to have more mountains for a little more than one or two...plus I love A-basin...then again I haven't been here long enough to be jaded yet. Loveland is fun and you'll get to ride with "two speed" Mario...full out and stop.
