Guest Randy S.
Anyone here a member of Orkut? I'm curious about this new networking site and want to find out more from the inside so I need an invite. Email me if you are a member and wouldn't mind inviting me. Thanks. skategoat
It's been around for at least 2 years. I keep waiting for it to take off like everything else Google does, but it just idles along. The problem with these sort of sites is the fact that the creation of groups is unregulated. This leads to all sorts of little sub-groups with half a dozen members. No critical mass. No momentum. Jack M
What, you don't have enough friends here? :p
Guest johann
My problem with orkut is that it seems like it's run on someone's dreamcast running linux as a web server and sql database. slow as hell wtih all kinds of timeout errors. Only reason I joined was back when I was trying to get a gmail account. heh hhe. Now that i have one they are offering invites. bleh oh well. Steve Dold
It's like the Masons. No one knows what goes on in there.
kjl
Who controls the British crown? Who keeps the metric system down? We do! We do! Who leaves Atlantis off the maps? Who keeps the Martians under wraps? We do! We do! Who holds back the electric car? Who makes Steve Guttenberg a star? We do! We do! Who robs the cave fish of their sight? Who rigs every Oscar night? We do! We do!

They're building a database of social connections. It's also why gmail has been by invite only. This information should be fairly lucrative for them in the future.
