tdifan_2003
Or shall I say - hardbooting? So, we decided to change scenery this season and we are going to Steamboat after Christmas. I have never been there. Doesn't seem to be a popular carving place. I am wondering - shall I even pack a long board (182 Monster) or stick with my all terrain boards - 4WD and Coiler AM. Please share your Steamboat experiences. Thanks! Millen
JRAZZ
What are you used to? Steamboat is fairly big so you can find enough space for most endeavors. I find that the grooming is sometimes spotty and the big wide trails can get busy. Both not ideal for carving but then again I usually like the tree runs there. That being said I would still pack the monster. Better to have it with you and not ride it than to want it and not have it available. tdifan_2003
Thank you! I am used to wide groomers - Keystone, Copper, Beaver Creek. I like trees as well, though I don't got there with the Monster :). On the other hand - trees in December could be a tricky thing - at least from the places we have been before. JRAZZ
Generally speaking the grooming on SB is not as good as Copper/Keystone/Beaver. Also I found that SB after a big snow dump is an amazing place. Other times it's hard and bumpy. Still one of my favorite places tho. pmorita
Spent a season at Steamboat and worked at the local shop at the bottom of the mountain with a bunch of Australians that were doing the endless winter thing to train on hard boots all year. They mostly rode on the training hill in town, Howelsen Hill. When we would ride at the resort, the go to runs were All Out, See Me and Voodoo. Agreed, crowded on no new snow days, but these runs usually saw grooming as they were the main way down. They were served by a lift that was not busy though so it was easy to get lots of quick runs in and get a rest on the way up. Fun days with a dozen 20 somethings carving together in a pack. It was in 1995 though and haven't been able to find anything close. Sorry about being nostalgic.
b.free
SB is pretty good for carving. I believe that you should take your big boy to ride around!=)
workshop7
Absolutely, take the Monster. I've been going there for two weeks every winter since 2002. Lots of great runs for carving but bring your favorite board for trees and hit Big Meadow once or twice.

tdifan_2003
So, we will be there 12/26 to 1/4. Would be great to ride with other carvers . Besides riding, at least to have more than me answering the eternal question on the chair lift "What is this?"
