Sultan Guy
In Dubai on business and could not turn down the concept of an indoor ski area in the desert. In true carver methodology I went for first runs thinking (hoping) there would be some groom of sorts. I took the stellar Dubai metro system to the...mall. Yes, you must walk through a very large MALL to get to Ski Dubai. Just keep looking for the signs towards the fashion dome and go past ridiculous jewelry, watches, and badly designed clothing. Once you arrive at Ski Dubai you need to select from the menu. I went for the two hour deal which comes complete with a crappy Rossi board, boots, helmet, and weird matching snow pants and coat. Everyone wears the same red and blue coat and pants so kind of like a ski army or something. I had no gloves so used their free liner socks. Once inside there is a fixed Quad and an "expert only" tow rope. I kept getting yelled out in Arabic for not putting the safety bar down within 5 seconds of sitting down. Serious stuff here!! The snow was surprising good. Very dry packed powder and to my amazement...corduroy! There was even a ski lesson that was just starting. The run is about 200' tall so even with turns, its over damn quick, but hey it's in Dubai, in a Mall, in the baking heat. They play strange Arabic top 40 music to keep the ambiance local, and people in the Mall peer in and point. Like being in an aquarium or something. Was not very crowded the first hour, then a bunch of people came in to just ride the lift around and around like a merry-go-round. I think it must be a source of wonderment. There is even fake spruce trees and fake mid-mountain outdoor alpine cafe, complete with plastic rocks. Very surreal experience. Oh yeah, I even carved a few weak trenches. Wolf
Thanks for all the cool photos. That must have been an experience just to be able to say you've done it. Does that lift actually make a curve at the top? And, I hope you bought one of those ski suits so you could be stylin' back at your home hill :)

Dan
Thanks for the trip report! I have always wondered what it would be like to ride that particular indoor slope. Imagine the amazement if you brought hard boot gear!
