Sad Day in the Eastern Sierra's - June Mountain Closing

It was announced today that June Mountain will be closing effective today. It will not be open this summer or the winter 2012-2013 season :(

Sad day for the employees and town. This was and always will be a special place for us. The mountain loves carvers and has the most wonderful staff!

If you have purchased an MVP Pass primarily because it includes 2 mountains (Mammoth+June) and did so based on this premise and are not sure if you still want the pass due to June closure send me a PM and I can let you know what is going on.

Thanks for catching my typo:) Yes June is/was a carvers paradise! They treated us so well over there!!!! What other resort closes down a run with mid day grooming for a private group of carvers? None!

On another front we heard that June is permanently closed. The word "temporary" was used to adhere to the guidelines of the lease agreement. For it to "permanently" close MMSA would have to have to spend money to put the land back in the same/similar shape it was prior to the lease. So it will be "temporarily" closed for a long time.

Well that sucks. It is a bummer that June has operated at an annual deficit each year since its purchase in 1986. Ouch!!

What a total bummer! Easy to understand from a business persepctive but such a blow to the community up there. The people at June treated us like family and enjoyed sharing the mountain with us. Gonna miss Gunsmoke and the June crew for sure. Have had so many good days at June and was taking my family there because of the mellow vibe. We really like June Lake because of the small town feel as it gives an escape from the LA craziness.

Will have to re-think my approach to next season now. Mammoth can be such a zoo most days especially for my kids. Hopefully we can still stay in June Lake and make the trek to Mammoth each day.

Like everybody else I was crushed when I opened my email and saw the letter from Gregory regarding June. The last carving session there with many of the gang was my first time returning to June since the first day I tried snowboarding some 24 years ago or so. On my return I found that it was an amazing day with some really great people, all celebrating and showing their passion for the sport in the way only a fringe sport can evoke. I left dedicated to the fact that I would return and that June was to become my new favorite place to ride. I am concerned for the town and what the closing of the resort will mean for the store owners. I do not foresee Mammoth selling June as it would merely create a competitive entity. I do think it will reopen if we are blessed with an abundant year of snowfall and they can recoup the losses but as others have mentioned this may take some time.

After I have won the multi-state lottery I will purchase June and make it an all carving mountain with perfectly graded slopes offering specific pitches for every taste, board type and riding style. Of course all carving session attendees will receive free life time passes and a new board of their choosing each year.

In the spirit of making lemonade, I am wondering if we all reached out to Mammoth what their response would be and if they might help us do the same there. Mambo is a well pitched run and does not receive a lot of traffic. Perhaps we can convince them to let us have our gathering there. Never hurts to try.

In the spirit of making lemonade, I am wondering if we all reached out to Mammoth what their response would be and if they might help us do the same there. Mambo is a well pitched run and does not receive a lot of traffic. Perhaps we can convince them to let us have our gathering there. Never hurts to try.

I've tried. Minimum $1k/day during weekdays just to pitch a tent at Stump and $1m liability. I can't imagine how much they would want for a semi-private run. They kicked us out the first year we tried a mixed-moutain SNES with a parking lot boardshare.
