CarvingScooby
SAD NEWS HERE: The death of a Calgary man at Alberta’s Castle Mountain Resort is being called a tragic accident. The man, 30, was snowboarding on Buffalo Flats, a green – or beginner – run, with his 28-year-old fiancée at 3 p.m. Saturday when he slid into a ravine and hit a tree stump, according to Castle spokesperson Andrew Rusnick. The man, who was wearing a helmet and a chest protector, was trying to avoid some people on the run when he lost control, he said. From the equipment he was wearing, it would indicate the man was at least an advanced snowboarder, said Rusnick “Indications are, from the witnesses on scene, is that he was travelling at a high rate of speed on a flat slope." It appears the man died of blunt force trauma to the chest, said Rusnick. The name of the victim won't be released until his family is notified. “Skiing and snowboarding – there is some risk involved with it, but we try to mitigate all the potential issues that are out there and this was, like I said, on a novice run where typically this kind of impact wouldn't happen,” said Rusnick. “Our condolences go out to the family – it’s a very unfortunate, tragic accident.” The resort is located near Pincher Creek, Alta. Prayer to the family. HardBooter? Anyone know this person? Stay Safe - enjoy the snow, RT
Allee
That's bizarre. That's the easiest run off the easiest chair on the hill. He must have been hauling to crash into the woods off there. Sometimes I wonder about the motivation of expert riders on beginner runs. Why would you straightline a run where the odds are so high that someone is going to turn in front of you, or fall over in your line? It makes no sense to me. philw
Thanks. Pretty much all sports I do are like that... the objective risks are different from what most people imagine, and even though they're pretty easy to find it seems hard for people to resist specific cases even when they're not representative.
