Catek Shipping Time

Hey all,

Just wondering if any of you have ordered anything through Catek, and how long it took for the item to ship.

I ordered a set or RS spacers and it currently looks like they wont be in my hands in time for Nationals. I'm suprised it takes for the 4 days to ship an item. They dont answer the phone either.:(

Thanks

I learned my lesson, I will try as hard as possible to avoid ordering anything from them again. Next set of bindings will be Bombers since they:

1. have an active forum

2. have customer service

3. are not Catek

For me, Catek took a week to ship some parts, but that is not the bad part, the bad part is the unanswered emails and voice mails. I actually opened up a claim with Visa to dispute the charges as "product not received". About 15 minutes before I was going to fax the paperwork, I got an email from Catek with tracking info.

Next time, go elsewhere.

I know there are a lot of guys that will say jeff/caron/catek has great C/S.

I think they have a handfull of people they may cater to. I ordered a set of os2 for my son a month and a half before xmas and couldn't and didn't get an answer on them . I did get them about 2 days before xmas. Then i ordered a set of intec heels and called emailed sent smoke signals blah blah blah. Wasn't untill yyz from toronto sent them an email on my behalf(thank u very much) did i even get a confirmation on the order. I've been waiting several weeks now to see about getting a replacement set of powerpad rubbers. I'm going to sell all my catek products and switch to bomber or f2. There.. that's my rant of the day:p

I have to agree on the issue of poor customer service from Catek. I have not in the 2 years of attempting to contact them received any sort of response either via email or phone. This would consist of dozens of attempted phone calls, no less than 10 voice messages and perhaps 20 emails. Never the less I have 2 sets of OS2 step-in's and have been quite content with them up until about 2 weeks ago.

At Tremblant I had the king pin snap on my front foot while transitioning into a heelside turn. Given the pitch of the slope it was maybe 100' or more downhill before I was able to arrest the slide. My left knee took some abuse as of course it was still attached to the VSR which was intent on completing the turn.

That happened on March 12th. The 15th I sent them an email inquiring as to teh availability of replacement capture nuts as they are out of stock on their website. I went on to talk about the failure of the binding and queried if this is a common failure or totally a random occurance. I also asked if I should be replacing the failed component seasonally?

The long and the short of it is I would expect the company to respond once notified of a failure of their product. That would make sense to me, or maybe I just expect too much? I am seriously considering ditching both pairs and moving into the TD camp.

And yes I hope someone from Catek reads this and gets a little annoyed at the public laundering of issues and discontent. Perhaps then they might respond to the community they rely on for their business.

My apologies to everyone for my rant.

Not sure if you mean me or ? My email says its turned on. I plan on selling both pairs of cateks they are both long and SI. One pair all screws work the other pair are as i received them one screw on heel is stripped and one screw on toe is stripped ,and original owner tried to drill and extract and broke the extractor off. I never messed with them anymore because they fit my boots as is. I think cateks should come with a voucher from crappy tire to buy impact nut drivers to prevent people from f'n up the screws. Anyway.. when i have 2 pairs of new F2's in my hands i will be selling the cateks ..yessir.

It is beyond me why the people at catek do not at least answer people telling them that they are very busy or areout boarding so don't bother us. strange way to run a company:smashfrea

I was referring to caRtharsis, but if you decide to switch I know used Catek stuff will sell. There's lots of happy users out there.

Chris just for clarification I am not complaining about the binding. I am quite happy with its performance. It allows me to play and tweak every trip to the hill. Thats why I purchased them initially.

I understand failures occur. I work in aviation and a large portion of my job in system design is failure mode analysis. It is expected and assumed that eventually any part of a system may fail.

Yes my binding failed. I understand how it failed. I tried contacting the manufacturer so that i could understand better if its a random failure or something I had done to set up the failure mode. Could I have prevented this?

My beef in this situation, as is echoed above, is the lack of customer service. I have approached you in the past at Andrea's recommendation to purchase items becuse you seem to be able to get a response from CATEK. I have queried them directly about parts availability numerous times in the past as previously stated with no response.

So now I'm down to one set of bindings with no expectation of being able to get replacement parts for the second. Luckily with the temps forecast for the remainder of the week I won't be needing them.

How many hours do you have on the bindings? If there was a material or manufacturing defect, failure would likely have occurred in the first hour or two of riding. The most common cause for fastener failure is lack of proper preload. When was the last time you checked the tightness of the kingpin? In most applications, bolts are intended to only have induced tensile stresses; this requires a stiff joint, hence, proper preload. When bolts become loose, bending and shear stresses, as well as tensile stresses, are be induced in the bolt, leading to premature failure. Preventative maintenance is critical, even on something as simple as a snowboard binding!

Back on topic:

MikeC - sadly you are not the first person to have this problem and likely not the last. :(

The bindings have 3 seasons on them. Qualifying that my seasons range from 10-12 evenings and 3-4 full days. The binding that failed had been adjusted and tightened perhaps 6 runs prior to its failure. They are removed cleaned and maintained regulary.

caRtharsis, what length king pin is that? Give me an overall length in mm and I'll see if I can dig up a replacement for you.

Chris I will get a measurement this weekend. Just for clarification it was not the bolt that failed. It was the spherical nut. From the Catek website I read them to be 10mm but I will confirm.

Chris
