Mats
Is there anyone into paddling longboards here on BOL. Started a year ago and it´s a really good workout for the core plus balancemuscles. I paddle a lot of flatwater on a 11.6 Naish. And I´m just back from two weeks of surfing with the big logg. A lot of fun catching even the tiniest summer waves which would have been unsurfable with a normal longboard. It´s an amazing thing is standing on a skateboard after so many hours in the lineup. I feel rocksolid. Can´t wait to get back on snow though! Have a nice summer /Mats

Mats
I hope you wear some sort of knee protection when you do whitewater SUP ;-) Looks fun. What´s sort of fin do you use? A long one must get stuck in the stones and easily damahed. Yeah I´m coming over as usuall to C.O /M

boarderboy
does indeed have titanium testicles or a complete lack of gray matter ... Hats off to the watermen who can handle that place when it's on!! The one day I was there, it was flat as a pancake. BB p.s. and before I get flamed, I'm sure there must be great female body/board surfers who ride the place. I've just never seen pics of em, unfortunately. Mats
Hi Joel, Nice to see that your into SUP as well. Checked out Jimmy Lewis boards. Looked good. I´m getting myself a Naish 10.6, trading in a 11.6 which has to fat rails and is a real tank in the water when turning. See you in Milkland next year bro! /M
boarderboy
- Bruce Brown's description from The Endless Summer. 30-40 years ago, Surfer mag ran an article by big wave rider and accomplished oceanographer, Ricky Grigg. In it, he did the math on the theoretical maximum breaking wave height at that gnarly, Newport Beach circus. Think it was slightly less than 20'... ?? Have tried several on-line searches, including Surfer for finding that article - no luck. ??Suggestions from any of you Web savvy summer boarders?? tpalka
Hey Mats -- no knee pads, haven't felt the need yet. Then again, last time I was on the river it was flowing about 2,000 cfs which is fairly high, all the rocks were well hidden. The Kona board I have is inflatable, and has three plastic (i.e. bendy) fins. It tracks fairly well, isn't the fastest out there but lots of fun. Joel -- doing the Grand on the SUP -- very ballsy! I haven't run anything harder than a few simple class III's, and most of those were pretty much set-the-line-and-hold-on kind of runs... Mats
Lairds balance, timing and bodycontrol is beyond the human possible. Awesome!

earthsurfing
Oh man! SUP'ing could really be the thing for me in the warmer months. Anyone have recommendations for a newbie who imagines he'd learn really fast? Anyone know if any SUP brands would offer pro-forms to snowboard coaches? Mats
After 2 seasons on SUP i have come to the conclusion that it´s better to get a spcialised SUP for what you wanna ride. Beginnersboards have to thick rails for carving waves. If you gonna surf get a more of a performance board from start. Learining to balance is no problem if you start out on a glassy lake and take it from there. The beginner boards have way to thick rails to carve and are more for going straight in + they kill you if there is heavy beachbreak. On the other hand if you just gonna paddle get yourself a pure SUP for paddling. /M
earthsurfing
RIght on, Thanks, Mats. I'm in northern VT, so I'd mostly be riding the Lamoille River, and then on lakes, as well. Hopefully, this could serve in lieu of a long board on the 3-4 days a year I get to surf... Any brand, size recommendations? (6'0, 190+/-, aggressive competitive snowboarder, piss poor surfer) (I could also see myself like the dude with his kid sitting on the nose!) Mats
Check out Naishs glide series or similar shape for flatwater paddling and rent something if you wanna surf. Thats my 3 cents. http://www.naishsurfing.com/en/boards/glide_2.html
