Jon Dahl
IS a good technique to know. The ability to set an edge into a carve, release it at will, and reset it again is something that needs to be learned, and used as needed. To skid because your technique sucks is not allowed!! willywhit
LOL...I just can not handle weed anymore! sucks, but true. great to have ya back, DSub, ya big goof. it was posted recently....you carve you carve you carve....I'll find it tomorrow, here's the new version of it from Scream of Consciousness. One of my favorite moves on the hill is to frontside/heelside toward the edge of the trail and blast the lip like slashing the top of a wave. where the grooming stops is usually a nice lil transition to hit.even better if there's a chairlift overhead, people love that sh!t. Now... we lean we lean we lean <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0IWh3Gp4rw&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0IWh3Gp4rw&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> found it <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vp4uZckpcF4&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vp4uZckpcF4&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

philw
I like the old videos - that style of clothing is coming back rapidly; shame Burton lost the plot though. A bit like skiing, if you're any good then you'll probably short-swing rather than sideslip most things. If it's board-width then I don't need to sideslip it; if it's less than that I can't sideslip it. Sideslipping powder doesn't make much sense. I'm reminded of the first "learn snowboarding" book I read, which would be in the early 1990s some years after I'd taught myself to carve. I didn't know then that I "carved" - I just used the edge on the board for the thing it was designed to do. Anyway, the book told beginners that they should skid their turns, before later progressing to carved turns. I was surprised as I'd not learnt that way. I suppose it's lack of imagination on my part, but it never occured to me to try swinging the board from side to side in an extended sideslip. Anyway, the people who invented that "turn" method took over the world. They created the equivalent of the snow plough turn for boards. That enabled floppy boards and boots to be ridden slowly down hills around the world, and drove the majority away from the piste and into parks where turning isn't important. The inherent design challenge of making a soft boot/ binding work led to years of experimentation, fuelling the industry as the better riders rejected one fashionable combination for the next. Mediocrity rules. Oops, I digress. The answer is "no, it's not ok, unless you're me, in which case I'm allowed to do it when I see fit. Fastskiguy
I'm waiting for the "Brushed Carve" to make a resurgence
