TD2 Cant Disks

Recommended Posts

We're having an arguement in the office here about cant disks.

Some say they are milled, others say cast and some say extruded then milled.

I think they are probably cast. Otherwise how could you sell them for $29?

The answer is.....?

Actually they are "grown" in large vats of green gel. Think shrinky-Dinks but with algae and electricity.....

No, Mark has it right, we get 12 foot lengths of extruded material done to the basic outside shape. Then they are cut to "blanks" and chucked up on our mills (CNC) to be milled into final shape. We can do the entire cant disk in one operation as we use a 4th axis on the mill. This lets us "cant" the piece over to the desired degree cant for cutting. Then into a tumbler (Take of the sharp edges) and off the the anodizer. Then shipped to your grubby hands to be installed and used and abused.

Picture attached is a shot of the cant disks after machining. We do 8 at a time.

Or two plastic ones that rotate around a little metal center piece? The rider would be able to, by rotating the pieces, adjust his cant and lift to any possible combination! That would be the greatest invention ever! You could call it the Galactic cant!

The first shot is of the entire mill with some older TD1 sole blocks on it. The 4th axis really make these parts easy and can be done in one op. The second shot is of the toe clip and also shows the tool carrousel. She can hold up to 21 different tool. It looks so close to the parts as this is in the tool change position which swings it out over the part.
