  1. i have a nitro range 167 which is about 8 years old and it still rips. its for sale too for those of you who may be interested. i highly recomend nitro boards.
  2. HAM huh, why not just get aviation radios, i hear no one is ever on 121.5! they must have tested them on a real cloudy day with one on top of a mountain and the other in the valley.
  3. yes, the channels above 14 are no longer FRS frequency and utilize higher power, it is called GMRS (general moblie radio service) Infact, you are suppossed to have a licence to use them. (its a mail order licence) the reason being that anything above 2 watts of power require a FCC licence. GMRS can use up to 5 watts while FRS are limited to 500 milliwatts. here is the FCC info on the whole thing: http://wireless.fcc.gov/services/personal/generalmobile/ PS i'm not a geek just a former electrical engineering student. whoops same thing. ok a geek
  4. so are we going to agree on a freq or not? i know we always used 5-12 too
  5. your car doesn;t perform any better or worse than mine either, so i dont think you had to settle at all. put a rieger body kit on that and drop it with some 30mm springs and you got a sick looking car that beats the hell out of my stocky anyday.
  6. Yes, normally the MKIV GLi has a VR6. but the GLi Gtanner and I have is the last of the MKIV, a special edition which came with a 1.8T and a bunch of other goddies like recaro seats and a body kit. If I end up moving to the mountains I'm going to need to trade in for a torreg or something cause i molded my bumpers to the valence and they aren't coming off, i'm not going to torrture my car with mountain driving.
  7. looking for a pure carve NoROy, any size.(i can't remeber what size they came in or if they only made one)
  8. low profile tires do not perform better, in fact they have their share of problems: eg. flats, more likley to blow out when hit hard, and requires large rim which inceases weight. (larger tire more air, air weighs less than aluminum.) that being said, the reason these "sports cars" all come with little tires is because large wheels with little tires looks damn good. in fact a friend of mine has the same car i do except i have 18 wheels and he is a good 3/10 of a second fast than me just because he has 16s.
  9. let me clairify, my tires now are only about two or three inches thick. rubber bands if you will. this "tire" is actually about six inches thick mounted on what looks like a 15 or 14 inch rim. so, since the ribing is needed to make the tire springy, i wonder if they will have a version which can fit larger rims like in the picture, with less material between the band around rim and the outter band which contacts the ground. i say this becuase i like the way large rims look, but hate how easy it is for low profile tires to get damaged. these would solve the problem.
  10. they look interesting but i have 18 BBS rims with 40 series tires. i wonder if they will make a low profile version of it.
  11. Thanks B2 i might just take you up on that. and to answer your question, i like pow and trees its just that i'm a poor college kid right now in search of a new pow board( looking for a nice Pure carve NoRoy or maybe a nidecker if any one wants to sell one cheap) and i dont have the money for a brand new one this season, so i'm left with my three caving boards. so that will be primarally(sp?) what i will be doing in colorado this year. i live in florida for the time being and its hard to justfy spending my only 1000 bucks on snowboard gear, i can only use maybe ten days out of the season. but that will all change soon!!! thanks for the tips everyone this is real helpful!!
  12. lessons, what like, finishing school?? just kidding. i wonder if they even have anyone up there who does alpine lessons. maybe one or two guys huh?
  13. I agree UPS does suck big wanker. for intra-national shipping i recomend DHL they always seem to beat everyone even USPS, but USPS is still quite a deal.
  14. very true, however, you can still hit it up in the begining of the year before there is enough snow to make a park. that is true of the last two years anyhow. but i'm not sure if this year they put in dirt jumps to screw it up sooner. anyone know? lol, yeah exactly, that was a joke like a year ago, i should probably change that someday. but seriously, hopefully in the next 6 month i'll get hired to denver center, where i can live out the rest of my life in the mountains. well on a plain next to them anyway.
  15. ok man, im sorry but maybe you dont understand the question. so let me clear it up: the whole point of the thread is to get some suggestions from people about their favorite runs at their favorite mountains. perhaps the question isn't clear. either way i'm well aware of the "quality" of all the resorts, otherwise i wouldn't be going there. if someone ask me about my favorite area in the mammoth area, i would reply, At june mountain i really enjoy gunsmoke because its hilly and has good grooming. understand the question now D-sub? thanks for all the feedback everyone:biggthump
  16. Well, i was more going for where is a good place to ride, on the mountain of choice, i know all the mountains are nice.
  17. Has anyone seent he Jeep ad in several magazines? it has a guy riding what looks like a free ride board but if you look close, hes got plates and hard boots!! maybe someone will see the ad and seek out the light.
  18. IN High Definition. For those of us lucky enough to have the ultimate in TV watching. INHD is only available for HD TVs. and snowriders will be replayed like six hundred times if you miss it the first time.
  19. heck yes it work out in my favor, thats my point one persons ignorence is anothers gain. (not to call the guy ignorant, i mean his ignorance to alpine gear) ;) :D
  20. of course not. but hey know your gear. i dont ride soft stuff but i know it well enough. you can switch out the liners for the thermo flex liner sold on this site and you will see a termendous improvement over the old. as for the flex adustments, eh, your right.
