  1. Depends on the conditions but on a really cold day it's tough to get going and wax helps a ton there. Also, wax helps a ton on really warm days. But more importantly it keeps the bases from drying out and cracking. For the most part I just use all purpose all-temp wax. Also a waxed board is easier to turn since it's easier to get going in the direction you want it to.

  2. no battery in the imac, quite honestly if you consider a imac I'd say to either go way low end with a mini or go all out and get one of the boxes with xeons grrrrrr mac pro is a nice machine the imac is a compromise between the high and low end that I just don't feel is worth it, kinda like getting a custom GS deck without metal or something.

for support, feel free to call me as well I usually am not up to anything late at night.

Bob, what do you feel is a compromise on the iMac?

  3. Jack,

Because you want to keep the computer for 5 years I would say get the macbook pro. It has a faster processor the ability to hold more memory and the graphics card has more memory. The processor is not something you can change out during the time you have it so go as fast as you can there. Moreover, you'll be getting a bigger HD and memory out of the gate so take that into consideration with the price. Consider the refurb as an option as well. Same warranty as new but at a significant price decrease. I've done this twice now with very good success.

Apple Care for the laptop is almost a must but you have up until the original warranty expires to get it and add it to the primary converge. This is 1 year from purchase. You won't need phone support since you can just call me. But if you have hardware problems it's a godsend. I've only used it once but if I didn't have it I would have been porked. Keep in mind that I have had over 7 different Macs in different configurations in the last 5 years and only 1 AppleCare issue. Desktop I wouldn't do it, laptop, without a doubt. Also, you can get AppleCare from anywhere as long as it is apple care. It's just another retail product from Apple. Amazon typically sells it for ~$50 less then Apple and it's the same thing. Don't be fooled by the Apple store idiots.

    Geoff,

You and I are getting the new iMac 24" 2.8Ghz once the new Mac OS X, Leopard, hits the streets. This way we'll get the new OS for free. Should be sometime in October.

As for resale. Macs hold their value very well. I have a 3 year old iMac that I plan to get $800 for. I couldn't do that with a 3 year old PC POS. I have sold both Apple laptop and desktop with great success on eBay.

  4. Ben, one of the BOL guys near Vancouver, BC is a Burton addict, can't think of his BOL handle off hand. Hi bought my red factory FP 185cm last year to go with with his yellow FP. Perhaps someone else does. Do you have photos?

    Thanks, Bryan

    Bryan, thanks for the tip.

I'll have the pictures up soon.

    Thanks,

  5. I have the following Burton FP boards for sale. These are not off the shelf Burtons but full on customs. Both of these boards are stiff and meant for someone around 200lbs. Both are great boards if you are looking for a custom stick take a look at these.

    Custom Burton - Jasey Jay - $300 + shipping

    Length - 189cm

    Waist - 18cm

Sidecut radius - unknown but I would say ~16m

This board is in good condition. There are marks on the topsheet but the base is in perfect condition. It has been on the snow once since the tune. Oh yea, this is a full PTC tune.

    Custom Burton - Chris Klug - $350 + shipping

    Length - 185cm

    Waist - 21cm

Sidecut radius - unknow but I would also say ~16m

This board is in almost new condition. Topsheet is near perfect and the base is also almost perfect with full PTC tune. There are some superficial scratches on the base from riding but otherwise PTC fresh.

Please email me at ben -at- bogeydog -dot- net if you are interested.

  6. So. I just got back from spending three weeks in Holland. One of my children had a high level training camp and competiton in another sport over there at a small beach town near the Hague.

    Scheveningen that is. :-)

Sounds like fun, I didn't make it to the indoor ski slope myself but I had a blast when I was there. My mother-in-law is Dutch and she still has family there. The Dutch seem to know how to live.

  7. Heineken is only good in the Netherlands. They don't actually export the good stuff. Plus is has to be poured correctly with lots of head. The stuff here is ram piss!

As for Guinness, best beer ever! It won't be beat, it can't be beat, it IS the champion.

Piels. Worst beer ever! My dad used to drink that stuff. I think it so I wouldn't swipe it. Keystone pulls in a close second though and he still drinks that crap.

But hey, I'm no beer snob like Jack. The best beer is free beer. Don't kid yourself.

  8. Lets see to recap-- Justin A carries a knife, an expandable baton and a gun. :AR15firin

If Jim Croce were a carver he'd say the following in this post:

And they say you don't tug on Superman's cape

You don't spit into the wind

You don't pull the mask off an 'ole Lone Ranger

And you don't mess around with Justin A

Anyone who carries a weapon should be prepared to have that weapon taken and used against them.

Have you ever felt that threatened that you need to carry that kind of weaponry?

  9. Those families get some of my thoughts and prayers, but I have to say that the Majority my thoughts and prayers go out to the people in the northeast- NH especially (we've been flooded 4 times in the last year and a half) who are dealing with the floods, heavy winds, electrical line-puddles, and massive power outages. Especially to the people who lost their homes this time LAST year as well and have just finished rebuilding or are just starting to rebuild.

Wait. You have more compassion for people who lost their house and possessions in a flood to those that lost their loved ones to an idiot?

The ONLY thing you can't replace is your life.

I don't believe that trailertrash was a mod at that point. He has only recently been made a mod.

  11. I'd like to weigh in on the issue that I believe some of the "moderators" here need to be monitored too. Recently some Threads by members expressing their points of view on certain "subjects" seemed to turn into personal crusades to decry these threads by these folks who are, in my opinion, supposed to remain removed from the emotional side of posts here in order to provide a fair and unbiased source of regulation on this site. These interjections, supposedly designed to be calming voices in the middle of the storm, were more like defense of their personal position or opinion of the subjects being discussed and ultimately ended up causing these threads to be closed or pulled. Last time I checked this site was an open forum for those interested in the sport of hardbooting and and all that goes with it and as such we are allowed to express ourselves on a variety of subjects about that sport as long as we stay within the guidelines set down by the owners of this forum. No one is above reproach here. We are all subject to the scrutiny of the members of this forum and should accept that as part of membership here. Moderators have opinions too, but they relinquish the right to become emotionally involved in these subjects upon acceptance of their position. When regulation becomes tainted by these individuals acting not in the best interests of the forum as a whole, but for a select group of people or things for whom they have a personal or emotional attachment, that regulation looses it's validity. I realize bashing moderators shouldn't be tolerated, but at the same time moderators shouldn't be allowed to bash members or their opinions.

Thank you for your dogma. However, could you please post ANY specific examples of this egregious behavior of the mods?

Last I checked this was NOT a public forum. You registered and by doing so agreed to certain rules. One of which was to be moderated. You have no first amendment rights here.

  12. Jack,

I think that BMW is better then Audi for quality but anything german is going to drive great but they are delicate. But you know that the BMW is the international symbol for a$$hole.

I just wish the Japanese made a wagon with decent power and AWD. There are a few, like the Subaru GT but Subi quality is suspect. If Lexus or Acura had one, I'd be all over it.

  13. My prime use for this board is for groomed runs, The rest of the mountain comes in second.

The 180 RC was my first Coiler that I ordered from Bruce and although I have ordered more since then, I keep coming back to it over and over again. It's a great carver and very versatile too.

BTW, this is a joke. I just wanted to poke fun at my misfortune this past weekend. I knew it wasn't a carving board but I didn't think that I could snap it like this. Across the board, sure, but lengthwise, I didn't think a board would snap like that.

  15. Hadn't thought about even trying to fix it myself. I'm a pretty handy guy but electronics is not part of my limited skill set. Is it just plugging it in or do you have to solder or?? Where would you buy the hard drive.. ebay or?

    Thanks for all the responses.

    Dave

Nothing complicated like soldering. You just pop it open carefully and carefully remove the cable from the old drive and put the cable on the new drive and pop it back together. While you have it open you should replace the battery but that's up to you. You can even get special tools to pull the case apart. http://www.ipodmods.com/shop/1050-safe-open-case-tool.html

  16. i am pretty sure you are right on this. i think i tried it once and it didnt work.

so how do you get songs back on your computer in the situation you have? anybody?

i know you could access the actual files and back that up on your computer via drag and drop. seems kind of dirty though.

when i read this thread title i keep thinking it says "Dear Ipod" ha ha...

On my Mac I use a program called Podworks to get music off an iPod and imported into my music library. But I guess there is this program available for windows that does the same thing. It's called Music Rescue. I have never used it but I think it will do what you need it to do.
