  3. I'm leaving tonight and I'll be there tomorrow morning...I might take you up on your offer though once I get back from Aspen? The heel is one piece away from being perfectly usable again...

I'm hopeful that Bomber will be able to sell me a replacment at the base of Highlands?

Sure, just let me know what you want to do. I could overnight something from the post office to somewhere in Aspen. The part you need is pretty light although I'm not sure that will make it any less expensive.

I always ride with a spare set of heels in my bag so maybe someone there does the same and can help you out for now.

  4. 3rd run yesterday at Pajarito. Was having a good time and get to the bottom of the run and my rear Intec heel won't do anything! I thought maybe it was just ice buildup but nope the thing was busted on the inside?!? Lucky for me my best friend brought his leatherman and I was able to get the boot off the board. Of course I sold my spare pair a year or so ago.

So anyways it's the piece that the actual cable attaches to on the inside of the heel that compresses the springs. It's broke in half! I thought the cable would shear before that piece broke?!?!

I've already contacted Bomber but Michelle is probably not checking email until tonight. I might need some help from the BOL community at SES once I arrive if Bomber can't take care of me (I doubt they bring much inventory outside of the demo fleet, no?)?

So I might be in the market for some standard bindings or if anybody has a spare set of bindings I have my like new pair of TD2 SI's I can trade as collateral or whatever? Or if anybody has a spare set of Intec heels? I'm sure 99.9% of you SES'ers will be on Fin-Techs (which I plan on buying if Michelle has a spare set at Aspen).

So I'll post updates here if I'm in need of some help. I'll be at the base of Highlands on Wed morning...just look for the guy with his orange Head SP's working on the heels! :smashfrea

You pay for the shipping and I'll send you the part you need to Aspen. I have a couple of Intecs in great shape except I snapped the "wings" on the heel.

Let me know if this will work for you.

  7. Just a thought - I've noticed with Fintecs and intecs that it is significantly easier to release if you are pressing down with your heel rather than lifting up (which increases friction between the pins and the heel reciever). I wonder if those with failures are pulling up with their heels while pulling up on the cable.

Yes, that is very much the case. Getting out of the Intec heel is a 2 step process and leads to less failures and damage on your gear.

    1. Push down on heel

    2. Pull lever and step out.

  8. Everything has been sold. Thanks for the interest.

I have 2 pair of TD2 Step In with 3* and 6* cants for sale.

  9. My only real resistance to changing them is it looks like they may be hard to extract... maybe. I may be able to just stick a bolt halfway in there and hammer them out, but it looks like the plastic has been molded over the outer edge of the top of the tee nuts, meaning I'd need to Dremel away some material first. Hard to tell.

It is kind of a pain, but yes, that is exactly what you'll need to do. The Dremel is not necessary but a good hammering is. :)

Are you sure the factory ones are M5s? It's been years since I bought my lifetime supply of intec heel replacement bolts :D but I could have sworn they were 10-32s.

I am very sure that they are m5.

In any case, if I replace the tee nut and the bolt I can get them both in my choice of standard or metric...

  10. I'm no materials expert so I can't say for sure about the structural integrity of the tee nuts in there. Since they are cheap, I would just replace 'em. But you'll have a hard time finding stainless ones in metric. At least McMaster didn't have them in m5 last I checked.

And if you do add the washer, make sure you put a longer bolt in there. The factory ones, as I'm sure you know since you replaced yours, are m5x20mm.

    ->Ben

  11. Ken,

The tee nuts in the boots are actually zinc plated and I find that the only thing that will prevent that rusting is to take out your liners and dry out your boots every time you ride. Also, you can put some white lithium grease on the bolts when you put the heels on and that will prevent moisture from penetrating to the metal. Not a cure all but it will help.

If I were you, and this is just me, I would replace those tee nuts. I would just feel safer.

  12. I was blacked out until this past Sat. Sat. was snowing hard and poor visibility. I rode for 45 mintues almost got clipped and said screw it. They were parking in the 3rd lot at 8:45, too busy for serious edge to edge carving.

Went Sunday, snow was firm and good for the carve, however I had a boot buckle malfunction and left at 9:15, went home and ordered a brand new pair of Track 700's with a rush delivery before next weekend.

As the holidays are over the weekends should be a little less crowed.

I've switched my physucal therapy days to Wednesday this year to ride with the crew.

They cut bumps into Flying Goose, and they were grooming out Goose Bumps.

Looks like possibly 6 inches coming wednesday with only a slight chance of sleet to freezing rain for us.

    This weekend should be great.

    EZE

White boots!? I see you are going to be like the rest of us now. Can you handle that. :-)

  13. A racer friend of mine who wants to remain anonymous asked me to post this for him...

    Jack,

A word here. The forward progression of the sport is driven by innovation and thinking. Some innovation consists of refining a proven design. Some consists of trying something totally different from conventional wisdom and seeing where it goes (even if it's been tried before and failed.)

I can give numerous examples. Take, say, the decision to try skiing on a single piece of wood instead of two, strapping both feet to it, and turning sideways. We wouldn't have snowboarding, let alone carving, if someone didn't make that leap of faith.

Progress isn't made by everyone marching lock step along a single path. It's also not made by everyone trying every possible weird variation. The best way is to apply intelligence and make changes, big or small, that should improve things. This is equally true in my professional field, science (I'm a physicist.) Some people are working way out there, and some are doing mostly the same thing as everyone else. So we get transistors, and then we figure out how to put ten, and then 10 million of them on a postage stamp wafer. This leads to the computer revolution, which helps create the internet. So here we all are, discussing carving in the BOL carving community group.

I suppose the whole free software movement (GNU/Linux) kind of typifies this ideal - let everyone play around with stuff, and the best ideas will win out. Don't let Micro$oft decide what the best approach to something is, let the market decide. Personally, I'm delighted that Bruce V is out there making his boards, Sean Martin is making boards, and Mike Tinkler is out there making something radically different. You're free to buy and ride whichever ones you want.

Vive la difference (slight misquoting, but sums up the right idea.)

    Regards,

    Martin

"I recall racing against Mr Fawcett in the qualifying race for Nagano Olympics and he was on a board a whole mighty lot similar to the current design and most likely uses similar materials that Tinkler is now doing . Sounds to me like its neither radically different or a very proven design as it somewhat went into hibernation for 10 yrs or so."
