  1. Types if Ice:

    from the Stratton Ski report:

Powder = Ice but you can fall without major trauma

Power Tilled/ Machine Groomed = we shaped the Ice into these nice ridges so it acts like a serrated knife and shreds anything that touches it: pants, jackets, gloves, skin have no chance of survival

Frozen Granular: Boiler Plate Ice with frozen death cookies so hard they will shatter your new $1000 carving skis/board if you come within an inch of them

Icy = we'll be hosting the women's short program on Upper Kidderbrook today at noon

Spring Condition = small shards of ice will randomly break off and attempt to stab you. We reccomend Body Armor and Goggles

I think the dirty snow would be much better!

    thats freakin hilarious

  2. That story sounds just like what happened to me. Last year I bought stiffer softboots and had a revelation. I started to carve and never looked back. I got hardboots and an alpine board and have progressed. I think alpine equipment is worth buying. That said, I still use my freeride board (donek sasquatch 170). I think there is room for improvement on the freeride board. However, alpine equipment would permit you to do certiain types of turns more easily and to a more extreme degree.

  3. I was there from 11:30 to 4 and i didnt see you guys (i had a black jacket, red helmet, and donek FC...later switched to freeride). I havent had any real problems with the high schoolers. I do take issue with the under 14 crowd. They dont care about anyone else's property. Today 2 kids successively ran into my freeride board...and after confronting them they dont even apologize. Its rediculous. Seems like thier parents never tell them how to behave. Maybe i scared them off. Other than that I had fun...finally got some carving in.

  4. So...after I tried the $65 fix, I decided that it was not comfortable enough. Not being able to go back to that particular bootfitter, I went to Surefoot in NYC. I went with the orthotics...for 190 - including lifetime adjustments and shell stretching - it seemed well worth it. I tried out the boots today and they are 95% ok. Phew! I can alpine snowboard again. :biggthump

  5. When was the last time you saw a full selection of hard boots for sale at a shop? The Bomber store is the only place I've ever been to that does. I would be super stoked if if the sport was popular enough for stores to stock gear, but it simply isn't.

Honestly where you surprised that you couldn't find boots in Mammoth?

the startingate in vt has a whole wall full of raichle and head hardboots...:o
