  2. HELP!: looking for a board cosmetic surgeon in cny or new england? pics attached this time! hi fellow carvers, - looking for recommendations in central new york or new england - a repair shop or person. first - the story: i f***ed up my pure carve board (wrenched the tip). trying to slow down through a tight spot - locked into a turn - straight into some moguls - NO CHANCE, DOWWWWWN! surprisingly no injury (to me) and NO COMMENT from the peanut gallery (chair-lift) RIGHT above me!!!! some of you will NOT be surprised though when i tell you this happened at holimont - they just don't DO that there - impressive! this was the weekend joerg ('the machine') came to visit... anyways - i got to the bottom - 'doc buck' commented - "what happened to your board?" well the tip flexed so much on impact that the metal edge sprung out from the starting point at the tip about 3-4 inches. the top sheet is bent back a bit as well. i do not think (amazingly) the tip/core split or cracked. there is no visual evidence of this and the flex is still strong and silent. thank you pure carve for a solid board! i need to find a shop - or person - in cny or boston area that has the expertise to fix something like this. i don't trust doing it myself. anyone know of such person or shop?? if i do not find anyone - i will ask donek, coiler, prior if they would take on this repair job... thanks for your time - your help is MUCH appreciated! post reply or email or call, - ---- christian ("ms. february" in donek 2009 calendar). 617.990.4587 superlight743@hotmail.com
  3. NOISE! agree - keep the original logo and font!!
  4. 3 carvers booked dick spector (chicago) steve sanford (syracuse) christian phillips (boston) looking OHHH so forward to carvin up the town!
  5. ...to bust out our new quiver stick - burrrrrner 197 in aspen in feb. (thanks again benjamin!). i must say it's all in the confidence factor - riding a big board. you have to be comfortable knowing you can rack it around when you need to. i agree with most of the postings on length preferences - my bro and i prefer our fp185's (burners on fitting mountains). and even when it gets chopped up a bit too much or the crowd's a bit heavy - we move to the purecarve 175's. always keep the big guns loaded!
  6. yyz, - yup - that's the guy (as i bow in his direction) - but no worries - he's TOTALLY on OUR side! i assume though you were simply asking in a manner to confirm if it is in fact who you are thinking of - or whom you met from a previous e.s.? ------ christian.
  7. christian phillips from boston scott phillips from cazenovia, ny eric thompson from boston we will be joining you monday-friday (13-17 incl.) we will arrive sunday late am early afternoon - maybe hit "the milk" for a late afternoon run or two - or at least be at bumps for the first happy hour watching the hornets come in to the nest at the end of the day... also - i know these 4 guys are aspen bound too: sandy kraker from cazenovia, ny steve sanford from cazenovia, ny clark sanford from cazenovia, ny dick spector from chicago (dick will turn 80 in '06!!) they are one day ahead or behind us on the stay - not sure exactly what days they are "joining you" would assume mon-fri...but there are four more. PSYCHED!! thanks fin & co. p.s. - i know norm bemel form ca is planning on being there - not sure what days - but i don't think he has access to email and such so there's a heads up on another...
  8. scott and holly - sweet gliding shots! i've always heard that is one of the highest death toll/rate sports - is that true? i have always wanted to do that - but always stayed away from it due to the "rumours" - (yeah - like being out on the streets on two wheels is any safer these days with all the distractions drivers have...) -------- christian. holly - let me know if/when you are in beantown - we'll go set some car alarms off in formation - then head up north to the mountains (not like you don't have enough in va/wva)
  9. ...remember also to keep your eye out for it/them on ebay!!! good luck!! ------ christian.
  10. sehr GEIL eric!!! ganz toll gemacht! would be sweet to have something like that from an aerial - or carving-right-by-you series...nice job though! was extremely jealous looking at all your shots from both your spring trip and the recent session! greeting to flavio, joerg, gunther, adi, etc... bis naechtses jahr!! -------- christian.
  11. I - like my bro (Scott above) - also started snowboarding in 1993, but in Switzerland - Grindelwald/Berner Oberland (which happens to be one of the Swiss boys’ - Pureboarding’s - home mountains). I was fortunate to have learned in Europe where they pretty much ONLY had hard boot set-ups to rent (and Hooger Booger boards I might add!). I as well - like my bro, from that point forward - never looked back at/considered skis again. Wow – now closing out our 12th season! As so well stated by my bro – so many great people in this tight knit carving community. In our beginning expression session years; all so open and willing in sharing a personal style/technique tip or two and offering some constructive criticism (thank you Will Garrow - for watching me, for the lift ride analysis, and for letting me follow you and emulate). In all expression sessions; hootin’ and hollerin’ from the chairlifts and of course reliving the entire day’s dream over some cold brew out in the setting sun at the base of Government (Bumps). What great memories with great friends. So much yet to look forward to... Thank you Fin/Bomber for allowing an everlasting electronic happy hour for discussing and sharing all the awesome aspects of this unique healthy addiction and continuing to carry the “session” torch from west to east coast. Thank you Jason, Jon and James for renewing all of our prescriptions to this AWESOME drug! Thank you BRO for the EPIC synchronized corduroy music runs, whether leading or following - it’s so great to be in the same ROCKIN’ music video with you!! “Cominnnn’ down the Mountaaaiiinnnn…” Yes - to decades more, - ------- Christian.
  12. you are right about steeps being a challenge - but boy when you do them and learn how to survive there - you improve your all-mountain riding sooo much!! a couple things - 1 : try (that is if your run is wide enough) holding on to your carves longer so that you are actually carving back up the hill a little bit - this will bleed off some of your speed and help you keep it at a comfortable level. what happens then is something fun once you get used to it and trust yourself and the board/edge. what you end up doing once your about to make your "carve-up-hill" transition (seeing as now you have more degrees to cover on your return carve) is your upper body starts to fall down the hill first - then your board comes back around to catch you. it's a pretty bizzare feeling at first - but once you get used to it - it's a pretty kick-butt feeling! 2 : something to try in general (not just steeps) when you find yourself sketching out. try looking - not down the hill - but where you are carving to. follow with your eyes/head (and upper body will naturally follow as well) the imaginary line of the radius/carve you are currently in. this rule exists in motorcycling too - you will go where your eyes are looking. if you see a pothole and you actually LOOK at it - you're going to hit it!! for what it's worth, - -------- christian.
  13. niiiiiiiice !! give "james" a big hug from scott and i - we miss you all terribly !! i'm sure you guys are making some beautiful artwork on buttermilk. greetings to all the veteran session attendees. should anyone ask why scott is not there - he's at home holding/caring for his 9 day old precious baby boy - benjamin lawrence phillips born 04feb05 - 7lbs 14oz. scott's already looking for an burton alpine set-up for him for when he turns 14. so - back to your 170 - do you think it would be too much board (stiffness) for a beginner (has taken a couple softie lessons) 180lb guy?? say hello to aspen for us, - ------- christian.
  14. christian phillips here (scott phillips' brother) hey how much do you weigh? (no offense) - scott and i are considering this board for our cousin who is 180ish lbs - we may get him to try out carving instead of investing in softies!! we would like to start him off with something in the 170's - ultimately we would love to find him a burton 173 or 178 --------- c.
