Thanks Erik. I will contact them.

Unfortunately the area isn't willing to help. I did send Bruce some pics and he offered some good info on rebonding the base and possible problems that could arise with repairs.

I can't help, but what happened? Did you jib to a stop on the lift tower mounting bolts? Looks nasty...
Conditions were much thinner than expected. It looked rideable but was actually a weird breakable crust with lots of fluff underneath. And rocks. Lots of rocks.

I royally messed up my Coiler AM's base responding to a lift evac last weekend. Talked to Bruce and it might not be worth repairing due to the cost of shipping and repairs. Does anyone have a shop they would trust to fix this mess? East coast would be best to keep shipping cost down. Thanks!

If the sale falls through on the Speedster, I will take it.

If the 3800 doesn't work out the Nomad is it the top of my list. Money is a bit tight so that played into the decision as well.

Oh btw, I've had my F2 166 sl in the woods once. It wasn't by choice, I was patrolling on it that day and had to go. It wasn't fun. Our woods can be pretty junky so it's nice to have the tip riding up near the top of the snow to avoid strainers.
-
Thanks all! I think I'm going to give the 3800 a shot. I found a new 169 O'sin 3800 for a little over $200. If I don't like it I'm not out much. I appreciate everyone's help!

I'm looking for a new board for East Coast trees on soft days (powder and spring corn). Currently I have a Coiler AM 172
with TD2's and Head boots. Its great out in the open but too stiff for me in the trees. I plan to use plates, I just picked
up a set of SnowPro Race, and my Heads. I don't want to haul around an extra set of boots. I'm 6'3" 245 lbs with a size 29
boot. Sean has a demo 170 Nomad but its way wide for hardboots in my opinion. Burton Fish (3 hole probably wont work with
the SnowPro's), Dynastar 3800, Prior Spearhead, what other option are out there?
Here's an example of the terrain in our area, not me riding.

If these are still available, I'll take them

There are almost always 5-6 hardbooters at Timberline WV on the weekends. About 3 hrs from DC.

The Wave Rave in Mammoth Lakes had an Undertaker in their used racks about 2 years ago. Might be worth a call to see if they still have it.Not yet, still for sale -
How much for just the TD2 stepins? I don't need the heels or recievers.
TD2 Step ins with extra receivers and Fintec heels, this is a package deal but I may consider selling the parts separate if that is what someone wants. The Fintecs are one season old with new cables and walking pads. I purchased the receivers for the other TD2s and would sell them separate if someone wants, the older TD1 receivers also work with the TD2s if someone wants to convert them.

I know Frank at Virus has option to add additional inserts during ordering, so the inbeded mounting sheet must be long enough to handle it.
On a differant question - with the 4 hole mounting disc..... I seem to recall someone saying to place the screws as close to each other as possible to help with the applied stress/torque...........wouldn't you want to place the screws farther apart to even the load???
I suspect that Frank would move or lengthen the reinforcement around the inserts when he lays up the board with additional/special inserts. I assume you understand that they don't put the extra inserts in the board after its constructed, correct? They are mounted under the core and reinforced before the board is pressed.
As for the the screws. If its a 4x4 mount, you want them at equal spacings in all directions, or more precisely, 4 cm between the screws. Some boards have inserts spaced at 2 cm longitudinally which gives more options but you still mount them the same as a 4x4.
From the Volkl website:
Insert-Systems
Generally you’re dealing with one of three insert systems: 4x4, 5x2 or 6x2. With a 4x4 system, the inserts are 4 cm apart. With the 5x2 and 6x2 Insert Systems, the insert rows are separated by 2 cm only. This way the stance can be set more exactly – down to the precise centimeter. The 6x2 Insert System is specifically employed in our top freestyle boards to offer individual binding placement. Adjustments on binding discs will be limited to the centering of bindings.

Hey Corey,
Yeah, I had the Virus with the Oxygen bindings at SES. ......and I tried the TD's on the Virus, which is what started this stance discussion.
With the TD's my weight is to far back at the most forward setting of inserts on the rear foot..IMO
Do you have a picture of the mounting disc for the Oxygen bindings? It would be useful for everyone who doesn't know what they look like
compared to a TD3 mounting disc. Maybe the difference between the 2 allows more adjustment with the Oxygen.
How much cant/lift do the Oxygen's have? Looks like you are using 3 Deg front and 6 degree rear on the TD3.
-
Or put a plate on it.
yes, assuming a plate will allow a 17.5" stance of course.

Thanks for all the input guys!
DonP - your right, the distance between the bindings of the twomboards isn't the same! Somehow I thought I measured it as the same, but I put the Oxygens back on the Virus and it's closer to 19 inches......which makes sense.....it's two differant boards....it can't measure the same!
So my solution is as I mentioned and showed above to find and mark the center of the Oxygens on the Virus and line up the TD's in that centered spot...which shows I need another set of inserts to match the settings with the Oxygens.....................at least that is what I've come up with?
1. What is the minimum distance between the 2 closest inserts on the red board that you had the Oxygens on?
2. What is the minimum distance between the 2 closest inserts on the Virus?
If its not the same or very close, you will never get the same minimum stance width regardless of what bindings you use.
I'd suggest either widening your stance, you are tall enough to support it, or finding a board that allows your narrow stance.

I agree! The SL 166 I bought from him was spotless and is a hell of a lot of fun!

For the record I am wearing Head stratos pro boot. Trying to figure how wide I'd want to order a custom board.
Donek's calculator doesn't seem to work. Give me board with of 6 cm and such :/
Try using the US street shoe size on the Donek calculator. For some reason it doesn't work for the big Mondo sizes.
For reference, I'm riding a Mondo 29 Head Stratos. My angles on my F2 Speedster 166 SL are 60F, 57R. Its a 20 cm waist.
My Donek Axis 177, 21.5 cm were around 55F, 53R. My Prior BX 176, 23 cm would go down around 50 or less but I didn't
like them that low.
Remember too that those angles are going to affected a little bit by your stance width. The further you mount from the
waist of the board the lower the angles can be.

I don't know what the answer is as far as attracting new blood to hardboots but it sure does my heart good when I see these two out ripping it up.
-
Color might make you more visible but its not going to stop someone who is out of control from running you down. Hell, I wear a red jacket with a big white cross on the back and still have near misses on occasion.
-
I'm looking for some TD2/3 step-in's but I only need from the plate up. I already have a 2nd board kit and want to buy the parts to get a complete set of binding on both boards.
Would also consider a set of F2 step-ins.
Thanks!

Good shop for major base repair?

Good suggestions lowrider. I've considered just attempting repairs myself. Not like I can make it any less usable than it is now!
