  1. I'm moving to Breckenridge,CO in a few weeks and am trying to find a place to live. I have a roommate moving out there with me too, although i'm sure he prefers boyfriend to that term  We're looking for something at max 1000/mo. Anyone have any ideas for looking, we've been loking in the summit daily online at the classified listings, but everytime i try to search for rentals elsewehre online i end up getting vacation rentals, which won't quite work. Also, I'm familiar with some of breck and frisco and i know where vail is, follow 70 until you see signs, or the mtn. Are there any towns that are close to breck? I keep seeing dillon and silverthorne but have no clue where these are. we're both going to be working at breck so we'd like to live as close to there as possible.Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated, since we'll be pretty much moving in sight unseen.
  2. Lexus 400h. AWD snow-worthy hybrid. Very roomy, nav, disc changer, all the bells and whistles and it averages 38mpg, that's without driving like the afore mentioned 90 yr old, but i think we've all been there. It's just too fun to drive w/out using any gas. It has plenty of acceleration and will have no prob climbing the access rds to various ski areas. I also dig the super stealth mode. Big loud tailpipes are out, moving w/out making a sound is soo in
  3. Up for sale is an Oxygen APX 158cm board with a 9m sidecut. Also a pair of burton raceplate bindings. Board and bindings are in excellent condition. Just don't have the room for this board, it doesn't see much action. I'm looking to get $170 for everything. If interested email me at i_guana_420@yahoo.com to discuss details. Thanks
  4. Rome Cache or Dakine High roller. both will hold multiple boards, with board seperator. The Rome can only accomadate up to 175cm board. I believe the dakine can hold longer. Both can carry multiple boards, bindings, boots. The only problem I've found is the bag ends up holding too much and the airlines sometimes complain about the weight These two are comparable to burton's fancy multiboard, padded wheelie bag, but without the burton price. unless you were looking at the burton boardbag that comes with a tent, in which case
  5. having worked a full season in the NE, and witnessing spring and winter in every month last season, ie- cold, snow, warm, rain, repeat. I would say consult the Farmer's Almanac. Amazingly, the freezes and thaws of last season were predicted quite accurately. and as a head's up, it's calling for snow, snow and more snow for NE this season.
  6. i've found that snowboard stuff on ebay sells the best in nov and esp around christmas in dec. so for a timeframe i'd say early/mid nov-late dec/early jan is the best time frame, areas are opening, christmas is nearing, people are realizing their stuff is kind of old
  7. all the more reason to love Alyeska and it's season passes that roughly equal a dividend(approx $1,000). When Vail or Aspen can give me a mid-week powder day and only have to share the whole mtn with about 10 others, maybe I'll consider those prices. 60 degree lines don't hurt either
  8. from my experience teaching skiing, arrrggggh they made me, i would not recommend a leash. I would definately go with an edgy wedgey(those things that keep the ski tips together). Children that young don't really have the muscle to keep there skiis in a wedge. This allows the child to learn to turn without the fear of them shooting off straight down the hill. even if they don't complete theirs turns the're still in a wedge. It will not completely stop them but it will slow them down enough. Also, this allows the parent to follow behind on a snowboard, yaay, or skiis. Have fun.
  9. the crazy reclining positions always looked a bit too contortionist to be comfortable. as for comfort i prefer memory foam, all those swedish astronauts can't be wrong:)
  10. I've been seeing those Craftmatic adjustable bed commercials for as long as I can remember, but I've never met anyone who owned one. Since the warmer months give me entirely too much time to let stupid things mull over in my mind, I was just wondering if anyone owned one of these beds, or knew anyone who does. Someone's gotta be buying them, if not for the bed, atleast for the free tv they usually give away. Let me know, operators are standing by :D
  11. ak_rider-pretty boring, I'm from Alaska and I ride boards, bikes and sleds of all kinds. Same name on everything except snowboard.com where I'm bustedrider-I signed up while I had a broken wrist.
  12. usually whatever angles are comfortable. just watch out about extreme forward angles. if you go too much with the forward degrees you won't be able to adequately pressure the edge. general, good rule is as far forward without having any toe or heel drag.
  13. clean-up is pretty easy, since most of the resevoirs now come with large openings. as far as snowboarding goes, i have the snowbowl, it is insulated and helps keep the resevoir from freezing. With the tube and bite valve, after you drink just blow some air back through the tube which will clear the water from it and prevent freezing.
  14. Depends on what you want to do. If you want a resort job check their sites. Most are starting to get into hiring for next season. As far as repping goes, find a co you want to rep for and contact them. Most require extensive sales background and that you have a somewhat pre-established sales network. Easiest way to work your way into a rep position is to start out working at a shop and work your way up through meeting people and getting connections. Good luck with the search. I prefer on-snow jobs. I have more fun riding than talking about it:)
  15. Tramp Stamp-synonym-bull's eye:)
  16. Killington claims to be the first to open. usually late Oct or early Nov, depending on temps. Others in VT open around early to mid Nov. Still a few months to go, but hang in there. The sweltering days of summer just make me appreciate the snow even more.
  17. not offended, it's all good. judt glad to find a place where i'm not in the minority because i choose to carve instead of do laps in the park:D
  18. Walker seemed to want to bring out the fact that she was not airborne coming over the crest of the hill. This fact demonstrates that she, and her legal team, were most likely unaware of the responsibility code. If she was, in fact, on snow, she was clearly out of control if she was unable to avoid the collision. Being in control means you can stop and/or avoid obstacles, including people, at any time regardless of who's up/downhill. It sounds like she's just another idiot straightliner who thinks speed=good, and when she screwed up began looking for any excuse. Her defense was filled with holes, and I'm glad the jury saw that. It also stated she was an instructor. I sincerely hope Loon Mtn has terminated her from this position. Someone who acts like this on the slopes is not the sort of example young/beginner skiers/boarders need to be exposed to.
  19. hey lonerider, seems like you're the one trying to be "special" by acting all high and mighty and trying to tell me what I'm doing by posting and to learn to use search. If this topic's been exhausted you don't have to read it, let alone reply to it several times.
  20. hey man, sorry to hear about your run in with a stupid driver. welcome to the club, seems like everywhere you go you meet cyclists who have had their turn at being a hood ornament. Glad to hear you weren't too seriously hurt, and that the driver that hit you had a conscience and stopped. The same couldn't be said about the idiot that hit me 4 years ago. Here's to a speedy recovery(raises glass) :)
  21. I realize the tricks that freestylers do between their taking off and landing are not easy by any means, but can this be called snowboarding or is it more gymnastics.I'd have to say the older freestylers can carve really well, but I've seen many younger freestylers who can barely turn and are out winning comps. It's just sad that anti auti is more well known in the U.S.for linking 1080's than chris klug is for respresenting this country to the world. and as far as devil's advocate goes, I knew my views would go against what a lot of people think, and...who's to say I'm not the devil:D after all, I am disagreeing with the all powerful oz, i mean burton
  22. I'm just using burton as an example, because the name is associated with snowboarding around the world. it's more frustration at the fact that this discipline of snowboarding is being ignored in favor of freestyle. I realize FS is what people like to watch, but I wonder if it's popular because that's what people want or because it's what's shown and given attention. Or maybe because taking off and landing is easier than carving. I just think that if a co as big as burton gave a little attention to racing it would turn more people on to it, thus progressing it the way FS has been progressing. If your argument is that alpine doesn't make money, does that mean donek and prior are losing money with their alpine boards? I also enjoy playing devil's advocate, which is why I started this thread:)
  23. The following is a copy of emails between myself and Burton. Me: why do you guys just sponsor freestyle events? what about the racers? Burton's Response: Hi Kat thanks for the email. There is just not as many into racing as freestyle right now. I could respond that at one time there weren't as many people in snowboarding as skiing but they didn't go out and sponsor skiing, but I just don't care that much anymore about a company who once cared about racing but has now turned their backs on us in favor of money and popularity. I wonder if it ever occured to any big company that if they started bringing attention back to racing it would gain in popularity.
  24. what's next, sueing a boot co because someone got athletes foot? it's sad she died, but maybe the family should ask why she was alone in the trees, or if she wasn't alone, why didn't anyone else help her. or why didn't she take her board off? it's scarey being trapped but that's when your experience should kick in, if you don't have that experience you shouldn't be riding that terrain.
