  2. They also made the Proto in a 159cm. So... to answer your question... there is no answer without more information!
  3. Dave - I agree with Jack. From my experience, your average race board is stiffer. I am not saying that the stiffness is a good thing, just how it is. Personally, if I was to start racing there would be only one company whose boards I would consider -- Coiler. I do agree with you flex/decambering analysis.
  4. Based on your response I would recommend you find the specs on your Volants, determine what characteristics of each board you like, then demo like crazy. A FC or AM board will likely have a tighter SCR than your 173, which from what you are saying, is not what you want. Your 162 is a slalom board, it is not designed to make large radius turns. Call Donek, All Boards Sport, and Bomber to find out what boards you can demo. Better yet, if you can wait, get up to SES in February and try everything. You will be able to find a board that suits your needs, it is just a matter of which board.
  5. I ride binding angles ~5*less on the AM. I rode the same angles onn the FC. I always center the bindings about the sweet spot on the board; thus, it is different for almost every board.
  6. Define what you are calling a freecarve board. What resorts do you ride? If you mean something like a Donek FC or Coiler FC, you will find a board a little wider in the nose and tail with a tighter SCR. Flex will be slightly softer than a race board. Typically the FC boards have little to no taper. I tend to like this type of board when carving steep terrain. The board requires less input to get it on edge and carves a tight turn, so controlling you speed is easy. If you mean something like a Coiler AM, Prior 4WD or Donek Axxess, they are wider than a FC, similar SCR, typically a little softer flex than a FC and have some taper. The allmountain carving boards are extremely versatile, more so than a FC. They have a larger surface area so if/when you get into soft stuff, they will float better. I rode a Silberpfeil for a few years. It was too soft for my weight. Last year at SES I rode a Donek FCI and absolutely loved it and am considering adding one to my quiver; that said, no way will I ever consider getting rid of my Coiler AM. It is my first Coiler and I am sold on Bruce's build, quality, flex, design... I liked my Prior 4WD, but it is a very different beast than the AM. With either a freecarve or allmountain carving board, I think you will find that you do not have to be as focused and intense in your riding. You can step things back a notch and enjoy the scenery a little more while still riding a great performing board. I have found having a FC or AM board is a great addition to the quiver when riding in Colorado! :D

clicky here for your how to lesson
  8. Yeah, what is your point? :D Nice write-up Bola. Thank for putting the time in summarize your thoughts. I feel as though I need a ST in the quiver, it is just a matter of which one. If I had the $$$, I would have several so that I could test them myself and determine which was the best board for me.
  9. Bola - I do not doubt that the Pow-Stick is a great board, the problem is I would only consider the new model with the revised nose, which means that there are not many on the used market. I cannot justify $816 for new or $650+ for a demo when I will only ride the board three, maybe four, times in a season.
  10. Yup, I have that one also. I guess my main questions is: Is the Access PORT really worth the $645 price tag? I am sure it is a matter of preference. I just cannot decide it I want the AccessPORT or a new Coiler. :(
  11. Thomas - I have seen Bola riding his many times. I tlooks like a fun board, I would just like to go with something longer.
  12. Thanks for the input Brian. Nice gallery (I dislike you :) ). I agree with the displacement comment. My only concern is that some of the terrain I ride can be tight for my 182 Tanker, I am concerned that a board at or near 200cm would be too much. I question if the 185cm Undertaker may be the best option. Right now I cannot afford to do what I want to do (185cm Undertaker, 198cm Undertaker, 200cm Tanker, along with assorted Coilers, Pogos...). Someday I will win the lottery and be able to buy all the toys I desire, I just have to start buying tickets first. :D
  13. After last year, he!! yeah we are coming back. 2 people and 3 dogs Arrive on the 11th or 12th, depart on the 18th - riding four of those days.
  14. Head Auger/ostrich immitation - either way a larger board should help me float better when I see you and bust into uncontrolable laughter! :D
  15. Jealous?!? I just need something bigger. Last year I almost wiped out multiple times in the deep pow when I was following you and you did one of your ostrich immitations.
  16. Thanks for the input! Since you and tpalka are in the same weight range and have good comments about ST's in the 180's, maybe I should not rule out the 185 Undertaker. hmmm... decisions, decisions :D
  17. Well... when in that chute, my sack is up, fully retracted rather, with two lumps just below my adams apple, one on each side. :D
  18. Someone on BOL either has or knows someow who has experience on the Nitros. Please chime in. I have heard that the Powder Gun is relatively soft, while the Undertaker is relatively stiff. Any input?? At this point, I am considering a Nitro 195cm Powder Gun or a 198cm Undertaker. My only concern with the Undertaker is that the runnout below my favorite powder stash is either manky bumps (from people that should not be there) or a narrow (10 to 12 feet wide)and super steep (45*) chute. As long as I could jump-turn either board I would be alright. My 182cm Tanker has an effective edge of 141.5cm and I can jump turn it all day long. I expect the longer boards to weigh more, increasing the swing weight to jump-turn them around.
  19. 198??? Yes, I am interested! Thanks for the edit. That is exactly what I was hoping to hear! I want a powder only board! I'll send you an e-mail.
  20. Thanks, will consider. BTW, how does it ride????
  21. Agreed, I would like input on the Undertanker and Powder Gun if anyone has some????? PS - I would prefer to stick with a board that has been around for awhile so that there will be some used boards available.
  22. Thanks for the replys! I would consider a duce, but have not seen any used around lately. No offense to RJ, but I would prefer not to pay $599. Then again, $599 for a duce is a lot less than I would pay for a new ST. I have seen your review Tom. How much do you weigh? My concern with the Powstick is at only 181cm, I question if it would float that much differently than my 182cm Tanker. Yeah, yeah... I know... the bindings are set back on the ST and the tail will sink more than a traditional board, but... like I said, I want a big board (yes, I do have little man's syndrome) -------------------Hush big mario, I do not want to hear it.
