  1. Guys, thanks. He's not quite ready for plates just yet. He's only a US 1 shoe size! There's a local kid who's a little younger than him that is really good. Look for him in the Olympics: Nick Baden. Mark my words.
  2. New pics from yesterday. Dad couldn't be prouder.
  3. I don't know if this has been mentioned, but check out the travel article "Surfing The Andes". Hardboots and plates all around!Gotta be 50 degree+ plus stance angles on the Arbor A-Frame. Cool stuff. Hey Phillips broz-- what up? Were you guys at SES this year? Great to hear from you, I was wondering about you. I talked to Butcher last night on the phone. He's driving a taxi.
  4. Buggs, good luck, pal. Say hi to Shrugs for me. You guys come back to the 'Boat, I need some laughs.
  5. Trying again http://www.bumperart.com/ProductDetails.aspx?SKU=2004031409&productID=2241
  6. Gotta love it. http://www.bumperart.com/ProductDetails.aspx?SKU=2004031409&productID=2241
  7. Fastback 167 is my softie board, I should say was, as I'm expecting my Arbor Wide Element 167 in the mail any day. The fastback is a great powder board. I really don't use it much on hardpack.
  8. Frappe, I'm kind of bummed you didn't get ahold of me while you were here. Maybe next time? Anyone else taking advantage of the freebies let me know and we'll hook up.
  9. Anybody hear any details about this? Apparently a guy died while taking (or teaching?) an avalanche awareness course. (?) Reportedly a pretty big slide.
  10. Yeah, I talked to Maja at Snowboard Journal today. Hate to count my chickens, but its the real deal, I think I'm getting an A Frame 170! http://www.arborsports.com/05/snowboards/html/aframe_lrg.html I'll post real pics when I get it. Thank you Snowboard Journal and Arbor Sports!
  11. Art, congrats-- No, I e-mailed them yesterday and tried to call today, no answer. Maybe they take Wednesdays off.
  12. If you do come to the 'Boat, by all means e-mail me and let me know. You can't go wrong, and I do think it's worth the extra drive, not that much farther if you take 9 from Silverthorne.
  13. Jeff, thanks for the kind words! Yeah, e-mail me and we'll hook up for sure. Carving conditions have been near perfect.
  14. I just got the best e-mail ever: Hi David, Congratulations! Your subscription to The Snowboard Journal has won you a brand new Arbor snowboard.....no joke. We stated in our "Layers" section a while back that each 100th subscriber would win one of these Arbor boards and you are one of them! What I need from you David, is your most current address and preferred board size and we'll get this thing cranked out to you. This is our way to throw back some of the support our readers have given us this past year. Thank you for your backing of The Snowboard Journal. Please contact me as soon as possible so we can get this board out to you before the season is over!!!!! Thanks again David, Maja Kobayashi -- Can you say A-Frame 170cm?
  15. Just my two cents - Props to Fin and Michelle for all the hard work to put on a great event. A good time was had by all. I'll never forget my day at Ajax, the early run down Spar was SICK. (Nice sleaze, eh?) Buttermilk was in good, not great shape. See the Buttermilk thread entry by Joel. The banquet was really fun. Am I the only one who has a hard time recognizing people without their helmets? Loved the game show, Jack was amazing. I gave a lift back to Steamboat to Mike Jacoby, it was great to get to know him-- great stories. So- thanks again to Bomber and all the other sponsors for the effort and of course everyone for coming from so far away. The Aloha spirit was infectious.
  16. Tim, Bummer! I was looking forward to hooking up with you, never saw you. Get well, brah- we'll get together. Dave--
  17. Seal is a musician, kind of soulful pop, an interesting guy. His face is ALL scarred up, apparently from a tribal ritual when he was born in Africa, but I think he's a Brit now. Found a link to his website. http://www.seal.com/bio/index.cfm Kent, you're right about Killy. I read he rips on the plates and prefers it to skiing now. And definitely more famous than Seal.
  18. Yeah, like Gerry, Joey Cabell and Mike Doyle, but alas they really aren't very famous. Seal wins so far if he indeed rode plates. Let's say snowboarders and skiers don't count.
  19. Anybody know of any famous hardbooters, other than pros, Klug, etc.? Lots of softies I know, John Kerry, David Duval, etc., but who goes hard??
  20. Larry Castruita sent me a copy of Aspen Sojourner magazine with a really cool article by Jay Cowan entitled Big Mountains Big Waves. It's all about the connection between skiing and snowboarding and surfing, particularly in Aspen. It starts with the history of surfers coming to Aspen in the early to mid 60's, and a case of the opposite happening with Andy and Bruce Irons, top surfing pros, whose mother grew up in Aspen and moved to Hawaii. Then it gets into Joey Cabell, who was born and raised in Hawaii and started coming to Aspen to ski in 1960, and still carves and skis several months a year :" Today in the winter Cabell likes boarding, either deep powder or pure-carving, where alpine-style boarders make repeated, deeply trenched turns on perfectly tilled snow, He rides nearly every day he's in Aspen, and often with a gang of famous surfing buddies such as Mike Doyle, Nat Young, Sparky Langley, and surf icon Gerry Lopez, who got so into powder riding he started Gerry Lopez snowboards and moved to Bend, Oregon." Then a bunch on Cliff Ahumada, how he came from surfing to found Pure Carve Snowboards in Aspen. There are some great photos of Cliff and Joey Carving and a cool shot of Ivan Petrov carving cord, on his S ski, totally laid out, no poles. Some good surfing shots to kind of show the similarities. I'll bring it to Aspen.
  21. "To skid is human, to carve, divine." You know, this is an interesting thread. A question I've always wanted to ask, and maybe a whole new thread is warranted, but -- do you know people who have tried to carve, and I mean really tried, and just don't get it? I have had a few guys take up the sport, and really give it the old college try, and they just can't commit to the turn and really tip it over. One guy is still trying, I bet he's ridden plates 30 times, and I can't get him to lay it over. Anybody else seen this behavior?? Of course, I'm not an instructor, other than to say, "tip it and trust it", but sheeesh!
  22. Uno mas del ultima session. Joey Cabell. Muy baja y suave! Gracias para los fotos del Larry Castruita.
  23. Thanks, Mike..... There must be two Mike Doyles that carve though.
