  1. Only the ankle area is mouldable in the stock Stratos liners. I did mine with a hot air gun, but really didn't notice much of a difference. They are nothing like a Raichle or Intuion liner.
  2. GPS's generally only output course and speed. By definition this is in a locally level (horizontal) plain. The GPS itself works in 3-D space and will be well aware internally of the vertical component of your velocity. If it outputs it at all, it would be a separate message or displayed variable. If it is available you could RSS (sqrt of the sum of the squares) of the speed and vertical velocity to get your true speed. Otherwise divide the displayed horizontal speed by the cosine of the slope angle to get your actual speed. - Greg
  3. I have experience with the Head boots, and while you can heat the liners, it makes little difference. They are nothing like the thermo liners in Rachles. I would suggest you see a bootfitter.
  4. I had a argument with security at Calgary last year when I carried my boots out of the secure area during a stop on the way to Kelowna, when I tried to get back thru for the connecting flight. They didn't seem to care that I just brought them from Toronto carry on. I eventually talked to a supervisor and asked for written documentation of this new policy, and they finally gave in. I have flown a number of times since with no problems. Greg
  5. While DLPs have lots of advantages, make sure you consider the following. A. They have a cooling fan and rotating color wheel. Both create noise and may be distracting in a very quiet room. B. Some people see color rainbows on certain scenes, although the newer faster color wheels are supposed to be better. C. If you sit too close, the screen door effect (SDE) can be distracting. This is true of all fixed pixel displays. D. Depending on usage, the light bulb will need to be replaced every few years, and they cost a few hundred dollers. The following link has good info on TV choices today http://www.displaymate.com/shootout.html Greg
  6. The 2006 date was dependent on 85% of viewer being switched to DTV, which hasn't happened. Currently they are trying to get a hard Jan 2009 mandated for DTV. There is no mandate for HDTV at all, it is for digital TV and it is because the government wants the low channels (2-6) and high channels (53-69) back so they can sell them for billions to private interests and public safety. If you are anywhere near a major city (<50 mi), you can pick up digital TV with HDTV in primetime with a UHF antenna and a ATSC tuner, either an external box ($200), or the ATSC tuner built into new TVs. It is the best picture quality that you can get today and there are no monthly bills. If you are interested in further information, antennaweb.org gives you an idea of what is available for your area. - Greg
  7. Indigo in Burlington, Ontario had them last week when I was there. - greg
  8. I was not on the hill yesterday, but was told there was 6 inches of fresh on top of the groom. Made for a tough carving day for about 40 carvers. Should be a perfect day today now that it is groomed.
  9. I am going to wait and see what happens with the fog, may see you later if it lifts. - Greg
  10. There is a thread called Ses by Matt Deal from a few days ago that describes some of the runs at Snowmass and the other Aspen hills. - Greg Ses
  11. Greg Marsden and wife Cheryl from Toronto Monday thru Saturday
  12. I would prefer a weekday, just to avoid the crowds. I was at MSLM on friday, too busy on the weekends for me. Count me in in either case. - Greg
  13. Make sure you make the trip up to Sun Peaks, far better for carving, wide open runs, good grooming and fewer people. Less chance of a White out, like you often get at Big White. - greg
  14. Dave Morgan had Bruce's canting article in the tech section at www.yyzcanuck.com
  15. Re: Sun Peaks They got a ton of snow and are fully open. It has been warm this week, around zero, it firmed up the powder so the groom lasts all day. - Greg
  16. Gave up waiting for snow, I am at Sun Peaks for the week. Super Carving conditions, no crowds. - Greg
  17. I sent you an email. I am interested and may be able to pick them up. Greg
  18. Michelle I am confused about the lift ticket on the "Bomber day off". Are these not the normal tickets that can be used for 6 days out of 10. So as long as my total days are 6 or less, can't I use it on the Wednesday. Thx - Greg
  19. If you want ski in/out, I think your best choice is Snowmass, which is what I decided to do. You are pretty limited at the other hills if you want a condo near the hill.
  20. I have been to both a number of times, I much prefer Sun Peaks. There typically is more sunshine at Sun Peaks with almost no white out days like you get at Big White. They get less snow at SP so the groom lasts longer than BW, and there is usually lots of excellent grooming. It is less crowded at SP since Kamloops is smaller than Kelowna so there are fewer locals. SP seems to attract a more mature (older) type of skiier/boarder. A number of instructors at SP have hard boot setups and you usually see a few others as well. I have never seen another alpine setup either week I was at BW. Both resorts have numerous high speed quads. You have to be watchful of the snow in early Dec., 2 years ago they only had a few runs open for Xmas, last year they were fully open. I have always flown into Kelowna, a direct flight from Toronto or Hamilton, it is a 2.5 hour drive thru Vernon. Snowperformance holds their carving camp at SP in Dec and April, I have done it a number of times and had a great time and learned a lot. I am trying to organize a solo trip in Dec. or Jan. to SP to get my legs in shape for the SES. Greg
  21. Dave has his new web site up and it says that he had a few Coiler freecarve boards made up and they are for sale. If you don't already have one on order, it may be your only chance to get one for this year since Bruce V. is booked up. - Greg
  22. Michelle Are the lift tickets going to be for a specific 6 days, i.e. Monday to Saturday. Or a 6 of 7 type that I could use Sunday to Friday? Will the lift tickets be mailed out or do we have to arrange pickup? Thx - Greg
  23. I would like to, but I am out at Sun Peaks this week. Will see you next time. Greg
  24. If you were charged duty it would be a mistake. You should have only been charged 15% tax and a handling fee. NAFTA does not exempt you from the PST and GST, which on a set of TDs was about 60-70 C$
