  1. Hi, Alex.  If you want to maintain a surfy feel and those angles, then you'd be best off with the Burton Step-ons as we were discussing on youtube.  I don't feel hard boots are the right fit for what you are looking for.

As an example, I run hard boots on my alpine boards which all have a waist around 22 cm.  My angles there are 55 front, 50 rear which are typical or maybe a little shallow for a hard boot setup.

On my freeride board which has a waist of a little over 26 cm I am running the Burton Step-on Xs and Burton Ion boots, which is the stiffest step-on rig they sell.  My angles there are 27 front, 12 rear which would be on the steep side for most people in soft boots.

It's generally acknowledged that the transition zone between hard and soft is in the 35-45 degree angle range.  Soft boots don't work very well at all at angles over 45 and start getting iffy around 35, unless you make so many mods you may as well run hard boots.

  2. “Hey, Siri. Please film me ripping massive turns down a 50 degree spine in the Chugach, then edit that film into a 2 minute video of awesome. Before you do that, please transport me to Alaska, hire a helicopter and grant me the skill set to not die during filming. Kthksbye.”

I beg to differ. If one uses a good tutorial (like ben's above) nothing is wrong with learning EC as a first carving technique.

Really. Before, say, learning to glide on edge with minimal inputs, or do a j turn?

EC turns are a fun trick that you can only do under certain conditions. They don’t form any basis for riding competence on a variety of terrain and snow conditions.

  4. I don’t think the sidecut radius makes a huge difference to bootout, at least not from a pure waist width basis. For a 50 cm stance, the difference in width at the inserts between a 10 m radius and a 20 m radius is about 3 mm, assuming a circular sidecut centred between the inserts.

For the math minded if R is the sidecut and S is the stance width, the additional width at the inserts is given by 2*(R - sqrt(R^2 - S^2/4)).

So if you have a 10m radius and a 50 cm stance it’s about 6 mm wider at the inserts, with 20 m radius about 3.

For anyone wanting to get accurate information about first world healthcare system comparisons try here....

    https://www.commonwealthfund.org/international

The Commonwealth Fund is a USA based organization that has published sequential reports on healthcare system performance.

That pretty much backs what I said: Canada is last in the list of countries except for the USA. We really need to pull our socks up. The USA needs to get some socks.
