I can see why he might have thought that was your fault… he was on edge, watching you and trying to steer away. If you had eyes in the back of your head, you would have seen him. My answer is to grow eyes there, rather than have him act for both of you.
If you don’t know what’s behind you every time you go to the heel edge, you’re asking for it.
You're right in the sense that carving across the trail is risky if anyone else is above you, kind of like walking through a rough neighborhood wearing a nice suit and a Rolex is risky. Not looking over your shoulder if there is any amount of traffic is asking for it. However at the end of the day it is 100% on the people above you to avoid you, and it is 100% on the people in the rough neighborhood to leave you alone.
I've never been taken out from above I believe because I have OCD about timing my starts with lulls in traffic. I think I'm very good at it. I will wait several minutes if necessary. One uncrowded weekday I had a near miss where I looked uphill before starting and there was not a soul except for a skier about 200 yards up. Every other time that is more than plenty of space. So I started doing my thing. Knowing the huge gap I had and that the skier had clear line of sight to me, I did not think I had to shoulder check. About 100 yards later the skier clips my tail and goes flying past me making a miraculous save on one ski. I chased. Turned out to be a young woman, maybe highschool or college age. She was scared that I had chased her but she apologized.
I'm not seeing any shared responsibility there. I think this was a similar situation as @slapos's.

I don't recall Volkl making alpine boards after 2006. While Volkls were great for their time, they're still quite old and old tech/geometry. I'd say the board is worth US$50, bindings zero. They're very old and not adjustable for cant and lift.

Are you sure? I thought it was the fiber, based on a closeup picture of the edge of the material you sent me. Would be kind of an odd design for a cosmetic-only topsheet, IMO.

31 is up there. You are up against the maximum width of available materials, unfortunately. Shorter radius = wider nose/tail. I like the sound of the 165cm, 9.5-11m. Ride higher angles!

Reluctantly selling this as it was the best board I had ever experienced at the time.
15m average KST sidecut.
21cm waist.
Center inserts 53cm apart.Not a GS race board, has some hook in the tail for a positive finish to the turn, but can certainly be used in beer league GS.
About $1800 invested, take it for $1000 shipped.
Built in December 2020 for 87kg rider. Ridden for 3 seasons part time in combination with other boards, in good conditions. Has not been ridden this winter.
Needs a tune. One
grind and(edit - checked with my tuner, he never ground it) sharpen since new. 0.8º base bevel, 3º side bevel. Storage waxed.P-tex topsheet shows normal wear. Picture above was taken when new. Will take more pics later.

I suspect that "Secret" construction uses quasi-isotropic carbon fiber in place of Titanal. Could be something else, but q-iso cf is used by the military in applications where they need to replace metal. Last year I had two boards made by Winterstick using both q-iso cf and Titanal (and rubber) in both boards, and the results were noticeably superior. So much so that I'm selling my custom Kessler. I'm sure Donek could build you boards like this too, or Winterstick is a great option. Winterstick calls this the "kitchen sink" construction.

True. I wanted my Winterstick 185 to be softer than my 170, so Rob built it identically to the 170 - same materials, same thickness in the middle, just longer. The length made it softer. If you measured the deflection of the two boards with the same distance between supports, you’d get similar results, but that wouldn’t be the correct representation.

New England was off to a great start but it was practically wiped out by terrible rain and flooding last week. Sunday River was devastated by erosion, landslides, and water damage. Some wild pics and videos posted in the Sunday River Enthusiasts Facebook group. I don’t remember ever seeing anything like this.
SR and Sugarloaf are open again but conditions are like early December at best.

We're gonna have to agree to disagree on that case. I don't think there is one at all. Clear violation of the NSAA Responsibility Code items 1 and 2. (Same in Canada)
This reminds me, I was at Winter Park last month for my daughter's mogul competition, and I was kind of surprised by all the billboards on the drive there for lawyers specializing in ski accident injuries. I don't remember noticing them the last time I was in Colorado.
Yeah. Or, "Sometimes you can choose to be right or you can choose to be happy, but not both."
