Why are we eager to shut this down and how is our discussion bothering anyone? Yes I ask a lot of questions but If someone finds this topic irritating can't they just not click it or unfollow?
Not trying to shut it down and I'm not irritated, it just feels like we're talking in circles and beating some dead horses. Of course you're welcome and encouraged to keep asking questions.

I think it's time to go ride and try this stuff before overthinking it any more. Good luck!

It has snowed 19" in the past 7 days. This has really saved the remainder of the season barring another premature meltdown. But it's drizzling now. Nights will be below freezing all week, so that will mean ice in the beginning of the week. 2nd half of the week could be good for carving after a few nights of grooming.

You've mentioned this before but there's no shortage of people carving steeps.
No "skivot/drift" here either.
Yeah that’s either hero snow or not steep.

I love it...I can rest my shins on them like hard boots.
So umm... just ride hardboots?

That "skivoting" just sounds so similar to the "drifting" maneuver.
Same thing. A.k.a buttering, slarving, slide-lock, etc.
Benny Karl is the master here.

Out of curiosity, who is it?
Actually nevermind, I don't know. I saw the title of the video and thought it was Jasey Jay Anderson. Then I remembered he's goofy.

I've been impressed and confused - these are cross-under turns. The unweighting is done using the rebound of the board?
They aren't even S-turns. I change edge across the fall-line. This guy doesn't even go across the fall-line...
I would say they're cross-through. The COM rises up a bit and then the board crosses under it. The unweighting is done using the rebound of the board and allowing the knees to receive that motion. Pure cross-under is usually done in pretty rapid slalom turns.
He's not coming all the way across the fall line because he doesn't have to. It's a pretty mellow slope and he's going for speed.

As noschoolrider says, cross-under or through are going to serve you better on the steeps.

So the advice here is keep doing cross-over (up-unweighted) turns but angulate more so you can crank higher edge angles hence shorter radius turns.
Cross-over/under/through are names of different ways to change edges. Angulation is something you can do throughout the carve, independently of the edge change.

How would a push alter the radius? I mean It's gonna bend the board more, that I get, but that bend is only momentary isn't it?
Yes it is.
A good way to alter the turn radius mid-turn is angulation. That's a PSIA term for creating angles in the body. What it allows you to do is use a higher edge angle than your lean angle (inclination angle). You put your lower body into the turn more than your upper body. A quick and easy way to try this on toeside is to push on the tongue of your front boot and bend your knees. Reach your front hand towards your front foot. Just be ready for that board to start turning tighter, and quickly! On heelside, reach that back hand towards your front foot, and drive your front knee toward the snow.
Also, it really helps to turn your head and LOOK across the hill at where you want the carve to end. It's practically impossible if you are just looking downhill or diagonally downhill.

Deluxe are wider in the heel and narrow in the fore foot. UPZ are narrow in the heel and wider in the fore foot. Mountain Slope boots are somewhere between the above.
I haven't measured them but I'd estimate that MS and UPZ are very similar in the heel and both have excellent heel hold down. UPZ RC12 with black tongues are softer than MS 100. I would also estimate Deeluxe T700s are similarly wide in the forefoot as UPZ, but the T700 heel/ankle is notoriously high volume, resulting in poor heel hold down for many. Good choice for meaty feet. Pretty sure the Deeluxe 325/425 is narrower in the forefoot, don't know about the heel/ankle volume.

Welcome Marco! UPZ boots are another great option. Good luck!

Hey guys, I've just learned about the mountain slope boots recently, what's the best way to purchase a pair in the US?

That's me, thanks. If your COM is low enough, like when carving fully laid-out turns, your COM has to rise by some amount in order for your board and lower body to be able to cross underneath it. Not many skiers achieve such a low COM.
Down-unweighting usually means letting your COM fall in order to release pressure from the edge, let your knees come up, and change edges. I'd say it's similar to cross-under, and the opposite of cross-over.

@nicholaswmin it's cool. Could you please just change the text at the top? Several of the articles are not lost, they're here: http://alpinesnowboarder.com/

They should increase the Ikon price to $2k or $3k a pop to limit the crowds and increase your wages. I would pay that if it meant a better experience.
It’s funny how people used to whine that skiing/snowboarding was too expensive and elitist, so Ikon/Epic/etc came along and said OK HERE! And now people whine that skiing/snowboarding is too accessible.

I went from the Driver X to the Ion, it's the same boot as far as I can tell.

The answer to that is to get suitably skilled and knowledgeable people here to revise/rewrite the Tech Articles with a 2024 view.
If ASB is to be the place to come about hardbooting, it has to LEAD.
You are right. It's been on my todo list for years. This summer. Video next winter.
Special thanks to their previous caretakers for converting the articles to pdf and deleting a bunch of articles for no apparent reason. When I asked I was told "it's our prerogative". Wayback machine to the rescue.
