  1. Call_me_jack:

Is someone or some team at Afton asking you to set gates?

I probably have an extra USASA handbook (in print) that I can give you.

Until we switch over to Metric as a standard, it may be easier for you to think in terms of "feet".

SL measures 9-13 Meters.. or, ~30-40 feet (gate to gate.)

GS 20-25 Meters, or 65-80 feet between gates.

(The FIS organization has different SL requirements/suggestions..

I think 7-15 Meters, but let's just get you started setting in the right ballpark.)

We set at Hyland Hills a couple times s a week as part of the G-Team Alpine program. Let me know if you are interested in sitting-in on one or two of our evening alpine practices, and we could go over some of the basics of course setting - you can look over my shoulder. The last few weeks would not have worked as we were in preparation for our last big regional race. The next few Wed and Thurs evenings might.

    i would be very interested.

No one asked me to set up gates, but i talked to the race director, at afton, and he said if i wanted to get 10 or so people together some morning before nastar, and set up a gs practice course, he'd be happy to support us with the idea. I've never run SB gates before, and i guess talking to you about it a few weeks ago just kinda got me excited. Plus the down hill nastar gates are just kinda a bummer cause they're so much taylor'd for skiing

  2. My SG before (same as Sincure's) with reservoir tip and after, no tip. Now a Custom SG 177 Race T Twin Tail.

what is that little virus? it's cute. ridable?

i have a F2 speedster rs 186. i find that on a steep enough hill, it will turn just as sharp as my donek axxess 177. i just need to lay down in my turns more, which i'm much more comfortable doing on my f2, then my donek, for some reason. At lower speeds though, yeah, the f2 is quite a handful.

I would just start it on a blue square run, and go from there. as soon as you start making turns you'll know exactly how that board wants to be ridden

  3.:lol::lol::lol::lol: that pict is pretty close bobble!

yes, it was excellent karma for tele-douche. we were the only 3 people using the run at that time, and there was no line ever for the lift. unless you count waiting 1 chair for greg and i to get on the lift. :smashfrea i retold the tele-douche story a few times at night too. would've been a great moment to have a helmet cam running. :biggthump

9:30 - 3 was excellent. blue skies and firm snow. at the end of our day, you really had to stay focused to keep your edge on the steep stuff. but you could still carve, although we were moving pretty dang fast as the trenches were more like scratches yesterday.

i went back for round 2 from 6:30 to 9. brought out the 162. on everything but chair 2... :1luvu: chair 2.... definitely was over the speed limit on that board. the snow seemed even harder at night. i got really good at chattering out. every time i tried to get low and complete a turn trying to keep my speed in control, i'd chatter or slide out. decided to stay off the runs under 2, and play everywhere else.

oh, and the place was empty! only 1 small group of racers training. other than that, you'd have any hill to yourself. beer league must be over, or they don't have it on wed nights.

    -trent

how is it that i was there from 12 to 330 and then had a round 2, myself, from 5 to 8 and i only saw you once?

it definitely got harder once the sun went down.

  4. "the parallel giant slalom has to be set as follows: 11-15% of the vertical drop in meters = number of turns by rounding up or down into the nearest decimal number

the recommended distance between gates should be 20 to 25 meters"

can some body tell me what this means?

    inky,

theres is no replacemenet for displacement! 2008 6.7l outlawed cummins :AR15firin

dual over head cams: the replacement for displacement

i like your rope idea btw

  5. Um, why not? I've lost elastomer plates, screws, etc, and Scott and Jeff have always sent me a replacement asap.

Shoot them an email and you'll have a new one in no time.

i guess i'll give it a shot. i was just kinda looking for a quick, cheap solution... i already cut some stomp pads to fit, and put them on...

  6. put sticky side on the power plate. cut to fit and off you go.

good luck getting one from catek.

i wasn't even going to try getting on from catek. i'll head to my local board shop today, and see if i can get a good stop pad like that... otherwise i was think of carving a eraser to fit in there

  7. make sure you did not bend the piece it goes on! seen it before.

nope... My board had a weird wave in the top sheet. and i was fooling around with binding position, today, and there wasn't enough support underneath the elastomer, so it fell out

the stupid thing is that i didn't even like the position change so i only rode the board down about 5 midwest runs before i switched boards :(

  8. You can use a plate type binding and use your snowboard boots on skis. You have NO release mechanism of course. Keep in mind, most snowboard hard boots are softer than most ski boots and they have more forward lean. That can of course be altered. Use at your own risk. I have used short skis with my snowboard boots. Having the 5 position adjusters help, stand the uppers up as straight as you can.

    never mind....

  9. was enjoying life up until i did something incredibly stupid. i had a senior moment. at the bottom of the lift 2, i tried to carve a 360. i was about half way around when a skier clipped me. not sure what exactly happened. i was low to the ground and closed my eyes i guess. he bumped me and got knocked down. i felt pain in my left hand. the skier was a teen. he got up but was a little shaken. the base of my thumb started to throb. after that i couldn't ride very well. didn't want to touch my hand on the snow. it hurt to put pressure on it. its a little swollen right now.

i saw it happen if you'd like me to go into detail...

the sun came out, and so did the carvers. 5 in hardboots, 1 in parent / softboot mode, and 1 hybrid (alpine board, soft boots; planning on hardboots next season).

    parent mode?

8 carvers, actually! Claytin, Cody, and Claytins wife were out in hard boots later in the night, too!

    i like that song, scott!

  10. i have the deeluxe 700Ts. i've had issues with the stock liner. i put in my Suzuka liners it was that bad. also had issues with the cuff fitting around my skinny legs.

i have the same boot and all the same problems, but no alternative liners.... foam is your friend

oh a side note, i saw 2 hard booters today, who weren't scott, while i was working lifts at afton (can't wait till next year when i'm a mountain host)

  11. Well after noon crowed is a bit of a over statement, but yeah it did start getting soft. So soft that i couldn't really guild my stiffer F2 as well as i could with my softer Axxess (first time i've ever experienced a issue like that/first time the F2 has failed me). I noticed that my soft booter friends' carving was starting to really come to him as it got warmer, too. Altogether though i'd say the snow held up pretty well, until i left, at about 330, before the flat light set in. Days like today have made me feel really satisfied with how far my hard booting has come in the last few weeks...
