  1. Like saying a Ferrari is a better sports car than a WRX.

I would love to argue that. but i wont.

Either way, i appreciate you minimizing the argument of Hard boots vs soft boots in this thread, 'cause i would say this topic is probably one of the more important ones we've had, lately.

It is tackling probably the most intuitive gate way for a non-alpine rider to learn about our sport. A little more than a year ago, when i was trying to find information on this sport it was a real struggle (until i discovered this place).

So please guys, keep it on topic. No need to drag a argument out, in this thread.

With all that said, i think there should be some mention of the fact, on the wiki page, that most beginners get their first pieces of gear used (unless thats wrong, and if it is please correct me). This will hopefully get more people more comfortable with buying our used equipment, and the likes.

  2. Snowchoad got the last set from Fin after I alerted him to their existence (you're welcome). I got the second to last pair. Fin wasn't aware that there was a shorter arch strap available (not was I, or any of us) until he pulled out the bag of extra parts and discovered them! SCORE!!!

As Kress said, having the shorter arch strap (check the parts list for proper part description, DUDE!) makes the white '09 700T's like a new pair of boots (I actually now think with a new set of liners next year I can live with these for a couple more seasons). When I had the original strap, I could buckle it on the 5th and final notch and it would be too loose and I'd get heel lift and side to side movement. With the shorter strap I buckle it on the 3rd notch, and it's much, much tighter. These old boots seem stiffer and more responsive (but I also had my boot fitter add some foam on the sides of the lower shin to push my foot farther back in the boot to alleviate some toe bash).

Seems to me the '10 700t's black-red-white boots have the shorter strap already installed (at least in my size 25.0) - when I demoed them a couple months back that was one of the first things I noticed. From what I've heard the 700t's will be the same for the '11 season.

Get after Fin to order some more of these short arch straps. May not be available until next season though. This item is a must for every one with the white '09 700T's!!!

So, to be clear, what your saying is i should call bomber, and ask about them?

  3. I def. will call them. Thanks for the info!

Hey post back what you learn, Scott.

I have the same boot (as i'm sure you realized). But instead of shortening the the arch wire, i just put a lot of foam in the boot on the of the liner, where the arch is, and right behind the heel as well, in a pocket style. it works well, even if it's a little ghetto. I also had to bore out the small pre drilled holes in the cuff to get that area tight enough.

  4. Does the metal Axxess have the same flex pattern as the fiber glass one? in particular, the soft nose? i love my Ax, but it's thrown me over the handle bars several times. one particular bad nose stuffing left my legs sore for the rest of the season

  5. I wanted to go to the party, but family obligations took priority. I "abandoned" them too many times this season.

Hope to see you out there in yellow next year.

Are you the new ski patrol guy, who rides hard boots?

  6. The season is now officially over as of yesterday 5PM at Afton Alps. This is the earliest season end that I recall in years.

for you. i was there till 7 at the company party... :eplus2:

    In soft boots w/carving stance.

they snow in the morning was really decent. I could've road it in hard boots. but as the sun pounded away, it got softer and choppier. i had to change my riding styler progressively through the day.

At about 3 o'clock, however, i got a really good dial in, and was able to start cutting though to the ice on the bottom, with was honestly quite gripping. I think if they were to re groom the hill at this point it would've been simply amazing. How ever, they didn't, so although i was riding great, it was very tiring, to fight through the chop, while holding an edge.

By the end of the day, my feet were absolutely soaked and i had no regrets; this was probably the best day of snowboarding i've ever had. Not because of the snow quality, but because of the 'ride like theirs no tomorrow, because their isn't one' attitude All 8 my friend and i were riding with.

    I'm gonna miss snowboarding :(

Next year might be a Mountain host, btw.

  7. i'm going to go out on a limb and say that bases on the [infamous] turn at 0:37 you also need to put more focus on keeping your weight forward.

(doesn't it make your feel kinda good about your self that your backwards from the typical duck stance soft booter? :p )

I borrowed this picture of tpalka from the Personal Best Carving Photos thread.

did any one else notice that it looks like he was dragging his hand, right before the picture was taken? just wondering...

  8. picked them up online. they are the 08/09 track 700s. I am gonna post about them on another thread when i finish customizing them. The heel clamp is not close to tight enough, so I have cut the wire and resized it with some hardware from Home depot, and they are amazing now.

i just put a lot of foam there. yeah their a nice boot, but need a little bit of modding. the new ones are supposed to be fine though

  9. It's a long time until November or December. Get out there and enjoy what is left before it's too late.

i made it out 33 times this year. i'm pretty satisfied... but i might re attempt, with soft boots...

  10. waste of time. not worth going out again in my opinion, unless you have a 12 pack. literally every thing pushed away. if you are going to go, conditions might be a 5/10 if you get there in the morning.

season's over, and i need a new hobby.

Edit: make that a 24 pack.
