  1. How are the trails for carving?

        Great!  Unless there's a crowd.  But that's anywhere 🙂

How’s the club Med for carvers? Do they have carving boards and instructors ?

You'd have to call.  I doubt they have equipment nor instructors.

What time of the year are you planning to go?   I suggest early/mid Feb. End of Feb, early March might get into school breaks.   Starting mid-March, you might get mixed conditions as the top will be hard and the bottom will be soft (600m vertical drop)

This is what you can expect for good carving runs .  There are some nice runs around the Camp-Boule section and also some nice blacks on the West side but often they're not groomed but when they are, it's awesome.

  2. I've had the same SBC liner now into a 3rd boot (must be like 5-6 years).  Here's a video with an UPZ RC10 boot (it's now in an UPZ RCR).

You can see that it gives a few more inches over the cuff.  Probably two more inches than the standard liner.  I've added some loops to the liner and fitted the Shoxxter strap while putting a Booster strap around the cuff.

  4. I know that some of you are into vintage boards. I was in Switzerland last week and we stayed at my girlfriend's cousin for one night.  Her husband was a rep for Flow and Winterstick AFAIK.  He kept some boards from that time.  I took pictures of them.  Maybe nothing out of the ordinary but thought that some of you may enjoy.

  5. Just received my SNX-20 from Jasey Jay.

    162/20cm   9/10.5/10 radius   16mm taper

Construction similar to a ClearZ but a bit softer.

There are inserts for a plate but I doubt I'll put one on.  I've already enough of those 😄

When I visited him this summer, I saw the topsheets for the skis he's making and wanted the same treatment for my board.

    Agreed.

Never had to sack anyone for that, but I would, on the spot. Perhaps a coding standard and everyday software engineering professionalism is probably cheaper than writing garbage, and then using ML to explain it? I mean: that's a problem which doesn't exist for competent engineers and managers.  à

I was being a bit facetious as often comments are sparse and often not that helpful.  But given the various constraints, AI/ML could possibly be helpful here.

I wonder what the FSF thinks of this.  Even if it is "new code", it's based on other code which may be GPL'ed (or other restrictive licensing) and that say, a specification is implemented using a novel alogirithm in that code that the AI/ML tool used in its training set.   The AI/ML tool looked at the code (not the specification) and may "rewrite" the code but in the same/similar way as that algorithm. It did not create a new work of the algorithm only from the specification, it created a derived work (just IMHO.  Not here to argue. Just raising a point).  You can see that with AI "art".  We've been (and still going) thru this with sampling music.

Mind you, I'm not too fond of the FSF having had to deal with them a long time ago (they wanted us to put out the work as GPL, we did not, we created our own license 🙂 which was fairly permissive but we retained the IP)

IP is a big can of worms.  Some lawyers will make a killing with this 😂

  7. "David Choi, another study author at DeepMind, imagines running the model in reverse: translating code into explanations of what it’s doing, which could benefit programmers trying to understand others’ code."

That'll be useful as the most common comment in code is something like

    // Do stuff

    🤣

  8. Stoneham

    @Québec man@firepopa  Des idées?

    merci

  10. In any Quebec resorts, you'll need to be doubly vaccinated (not sure which proof is required for out of country visitors)

Single day trip ? Multi day?

Massif de Charlevoix (4.5hrs) is really nice (and big) but $$$ (flexi fares; cheaper Mon-Thus).  They even have a Club Med (really).  Stoneham (4hrs) near Quebec City is nice.  I think there'll be some carvers there in Feb (14-17).  Money no object, yeah, Massif de Charlevoix.  Mont-Ste-Anne (4hrs) near Quebec City also but reports out of there is that lifts and trails are not optimal due to owner's stinginess)

Tremblant (5.5hrs) in the Laurentians (but busy) but that's starting to be a good drive. Also pricey.  In that area, Mont-Blanc.  A bit smaller but cheaper.

If you want something close to the border for a single/two day trip; Massif du Sud(3.5hrs), Owl's Head (3hrs).

If you splitboard, Chics-Chocs in Gaspésie is best in the East (but 9hrs!) (Massif du Sud and Mont-Edouard are also good from what I've heard))

For glades, Sutton (3hrs, also near the border). But no so great for carving.

Night riding, Bromont (3hrs) but conditions at that point are not optimal (my local mountain).  Good groomers in the AM but very busy in the WE so past 11-12am, not so good anymore unless you move towards the smaller peaks on the resort.

You'll probably need to buy tickets in advance as the ticket pool is kept low due to Covid.

Note that because of Covid restrictions, no restaurants are open (there might be food offerings outside) and you can change you boots indoors but can't leave bags inside.  Entering buildings require masks.  Surgical or N95 AFAIK.

  11. Well, all of the other China snowboard team photos seem unaltered...  China on sleeve and Chinese characters on the back.  Also surprised that the coach did not have the same jacket as the team members.  So, are you sure that particular photo had China on it?  (also note that your photo was posted two weeks after the China Team photos).

If it really happened, that sucks.

(AFAIK, Instagram is blocked in China to start with)

And Jesus hung out with Lepers (Far more contagious) so what is your point?

    Far more contagious? Euh?  no.

    https://www.cdc.gov/leprosy/transmission/index.html

"Prolonged, close contact with someone with untreated leprosy over many months is needed to catch the disease"

    https://www.medicinenet.com/is_leprosy_hansens_disease_contagious/article.htm#what_is_leprosy

"However, acquisition of the disease usually occurs after long-term (months to years) contact with an untreated individual with the disease."

    https://www.leprosymission.org/blog/how-is-leprosy-transmitted/

"Recent research by our team in Bangladesh showed that, over the course of a year, no more than 13 out of every 1,000 people who lived with a person affected by leprosy was diagnosed with the disease themselves. "

    https://www.aad.org/public/diseases/a-z/leprosy-risk

"Scientists have learned that to catch leprosy, a healthy person must have months of close contact with someone who has leprosy."

Fun Fact from the link above:

"It’s possible to catch leprosy by handling an armadillo. U.S. dermatologists are finding that some patients who get leprosy have either handled an armadillo or spent time outdoors in an area where these animals live."

I guess, we'll have to ban armadillos from restaurants, concerts and family reunions. LOL.
