  1. Tested a 162 twincarve with 13.2m, it was a customers board which I saw him ride and could immediately tell it was not well balanced. Gave me a lot of insight into what makes the smaller boards work and that one was definitely lacking in a few categories. I learn a ton more from the bad ones over the good ones so its always a major success to build a bad board as long as you learn from it. Real long and real short boards seem to have their own set of rules and are pretty fussy about having it done right for good all around performance. Workin on it:biggthump
  2. Well if you guys were on the ball you would be checking out Mr Gruumers last 2 boards and making a few educated guesses. Lets see, the X4 had a multi 10/13/10.5m sidecut, Hmmmm kinda like the 158 Madd 7/11/9m Lets see, the X5 kinda had glued on mini butterfly plates, Hmmmmm, kinda like a glued on Madd butterfly plate. Can you guess this may be the base testing for the ANGRRY 162 and 170:eek: The Gruumer dude is still 2 years ahead of y'all No protos yet but the design work is in the pot stewing away nicely BV
  3. Dammit, Shred is gonna be akskin for royalties:freak3: It is designed off of the same tooling used for All Mountain boards. The nose is interesting as I found the same with similar others I have tested. It looks scary but after a run or two you just forget about it and ride. When on edge it will really get through a lot of crap. Sidecut is just a simple radial for predictable turning. The flex type is very relaxed with a higher percentage of glass to make it an easy ride. Too easy for some and that is why I now have a few different levels of rebound which are used according to desired end use. They are small differences but they are different. Yknow, there is a certain truth to What Mike T has mentioned earlier in the thread, most of my boards are easy rides with super performance potential, I'm just too tired to get beat up by my boards anymore so my design direction now reflects that:biggthump
  4. Is riding it with softies legal in Montana? Templates are not made anymore especially for those weird boards. I just make up the base and use that as a template for the other required parts of the process. I do however keep detailed build sheets on every board built so can duplicate if need be. Just the tip/tail shape would have to be redone BV
  5. My mother used to work for Sears so I can get it at a discount too:) I have often eyed up the planers and thought about trying to set it up somehow but looks like these dudes have done it. Must be made made by someone else and Craftsman name slapped on it so could probably find similar with another nameplate . I like the space savings!! Just checked and Carvewright is the co who builds it. Seems a ton of people have them blow up so you get what you pay for.
  6. I wish I got enough riding in to damage a board.
  7. HUH? Hey man you're talking to Canadians eh, if theres any more than beer and a chainsaw involved , we're not interested:lol:
  8. There are so many variables, I can never see one universal system. Toss in the modern race designs now and the reference points on those are totally foreign to anything of past. Advancement is one thing that will keep a universal system from being BV
  9. On the to do list and should get to messages early this week. BV
  10. The more i get into it the more complicated it gets. The Coiler I cold give you an idea if you email me the ser# . Now with metal its a different thing as #s do not always transfer from glass boards. Different camber amounts would make readings different. Different weights would see different deflections depending on the dynamic flex as more stuff like carbon resists more when pushed farther. Decamber being widely used now also affects the measurement My system relies on data from testing and rider feedback but of course is only used by me BV
  11. Thanks guys, email is flowing again. Just another delay in the process so anyone waiting for boards will now wait 4 or 5 more hours)-: BV
  12. Hey, one of you jokers out there Send me an email to info@coiler.com to see if it gets through and let me know via BOL when you sent it. Thx, BV
  13. Apparently some kind of Barracuda firewall had too much priority but all hopefully will be good in 12 hours or so. Sorry for any missed messages and I am seeing if I can get any back from the weekend. BV
  14. Hey guys and gals: As of Fri sometimes my email addresses info at coiler.com bruce at coiler.com are not functioning Currently my hotmail bmv57 at hotmail.com is the only thing working. Just discovered this Sun AM and will sort it out asap. Hope all messages are not lost since Fri at about 5PM. Bruce
  15. You now officially are more qualified than me at doing that type of repair:biggthump Nice work! I have yet to see anyone do that yet and as long as you did the flame treat effectively( which is pretty easy), it should work out nicely. Stay off the rails next time:freak3: BV
  16. Phil: I saw a modern race board done with reverse that started almost at the bindings and all who tried it did not like it. I saw a guy riding it and it looked very bouncy and he was struggling a bit. This is real on hill info and riders who pretty much have a good idea of whats going on. That was enough for me to put it on the permanent back burner BV
  17. Sorry 15 yr old is just a bit too young for me, make it 16 End this thread now!!
  18. Yep! I'll show him my Schtubby if he shows me his Asym:lol:
  19. Cheers, you buy me a beer and I'll buy you one, we'll both be twice as happy. Looking forward to getting some riding in. BV
  20. All tops are in now. Some came in real fast as Lindsay must have just used to opportunity to all ship together. some apparently ended up in Australia. It is real hit and miss as he is busy and shipping is iffy esp around Xmas. Will take a few days to get them all installed as I was hoping to get a few at a time, not all 8:eek: BV
  21. The original Stubby was a 161 with 14.7m sidecut and different looking nose/tail shapes. It was the concept of very short board and very long sidecut which he wanted me to do and was still quite unique. As with any concept things get mellowed out for the production models so looks and performance are more user friendly. It was a board made possible with the use of Titanal to get a very fun unique ride with different flex characteristics. No surprise but it is is just a narrow EX board with a different feel due to the material selection I have seen that shape many years ago too, its called a Swoard :) The stubby nose was taken from my EX boards which were really a copy of the Swoard so I applaud them for that development Of course I like to have my boards at a reasonable cosmetic level but to make things more sexy usually takes more time and money which really is not my thing. I would rather spend the money for performance over looks or just sell the boards for less. To each his own as some boards are like works of art and I can certainly appreciate the builders and owners pride but for me when going down the hill I look ahead and not at my board. When I get to the bottom I look at the beer selection and can rest easy knowing the ugly boards will be last to get stolen:lol: The tip or tail shapes are one of the last things I worry about as after testing normal to very crazy ones, the affect on performance for alpine riding is way down on the list of things that make a board good or bad. There are only so many ways you can make things look so eventually you can call anything a copy of something else. We all copied the guy who first used ptex and metal edges didn't we? Well if it had supercar performance and economy car pricing. I bet a few would be in line to buy them;) BV
  22. I hope you are just joking and coming up to my place to celebrate Leslies Birthday, count me out. Was seriously thinking about it then remembered I don't even have a board. Started working on one today and may race Sat at Beaver valley. As usual, epoxy still not fully cured on and the race course:freak3:
  23. No hard feelings taken but we are just experimenting to forward the sport. If one of ten things works out, it is a good result! No matter what the look or result you learn something. I certainly admire the quality finish of your boards( best I have seen!) but working with all the new designs that I currently am, I like to get the performance right and then I can play around with the looks. For weight savings on a big board, looks are not my goal. Many laughed at the original Stubby concept ( Shreds idea BTW) and it has now become a very very popular board. Shred has a liking for different stuff and is not scared to order something not so sexy, he is sexy enough and if he is in a room with a good looking board, the result might be too much for most to handle! BV
  24. I'm truly honored that you wasted one minute of your 24 yrs to look at it BV
