  1. I'm amazed he stayed conscious. It had to hurt like hell. <object width="580" height="360"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ygOIy7b9mR8&hl=en_US&fs=1&border=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ygOIy7b9mR8&hl=en_US&fs=1&border=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="580" height="360"></embed></object> Apparently, he went back up for another run. Not a good decision in my opinion. I'm sure he was mildly concussed. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/more/01/29/white.injury.ap/index.html
  2. This was in the fine print: Travel April 6 through May 26, 2010. What are conditions like in April/May?
  3. I went to a foot clinic a while back to get help with my plantar fasciatis. The chiropodist recommended $300 custom footbeds for me. I told him I didn't have insurance. He then tells me in a low voice to just buy the $50 Birkenstock inserts. "Just as good", according to the chiropodist. They aren't custom molded but unless you have really strangely shaped feet, they will work well for you.
  4. I highly recommend you not be an early adopter on this one. I know the pain of early adoption. This thing cost me the equivalent of 2 Sidewinders in 1997.
  5. Don't tell me that. I just sold it.
  6. Wait for the next iteration. Better screen, stylus support, multi-tasking and Flash support will come in iPad 2.0. Maybe they'll have two versions - standard and pro. I still think the Kindle is a far superior e-reader. Screen is just easier to read and battery life is days, not hours.
  7. This snowboard is sold to an up and coming junior racer.
  8. James: I think your kid could handle this stick. It's not that stiff according to Bruce's scale. It's 6.8 and I ride a 7.0 right now. I'd love to see a junior racer on this board. Email me if interested. Chris: I'm emailing you. Henry
  9. But good on you for giving it a try.
  10. You were following the wrong people.
  11. No, I think he just decided to stick to his AM board. In fact, I swapped him some bindings for the Coiler.
  12. Jack, the board is a Coiler 178 FreeCarve metal. I used the same board with the Nordicas and the Dalbello Kryptons. Bindings are F2 Race Titanium standard bails. I was really happy about picking up the Dalbellos because I thought this was the ski boot of choice for riding plates. But I am risking life and limb based on the my first two days out. I know the tongues are black. Not sure about the liners. Will check when I get home.
  13. I just bought this board used and came to the conclusion that it will probably get out once or twice a year at best. Someone give it a better home. Made in 2004 Numbers on side are 184PR 04ER03 6.85 Usual scratches on top sheet Recent base grind with lots of structure left. Bases and edges have always been kept in great shape. 18.5 cm waist 13.2 M SCR 4 mm taper Built for someone 180 lbs SOLD John, I hope you don't mind me leeching your photos:
  14. I regret I can't make it this year. Work gets in the way. However, if there is someone who lives near Etobicoke who wouldn't mind taking a pair of bindings up with them and bringing back a sport tube, please email me. Thanks, Henry
  15. All you guys carving in ski boots, I need a bit of advice. Last year, I tried my son's Nordica W12s. They are a 90 flex. After an initial awkward feeling, I got to carving nicely with these. I was pleasantly surprised because I ride fairly soft Raichle hard boots with yellow BTS springs. So I picked up a pair of Dalbello Krypton Cross over the summer. For flex, it says 8-15, whatever that means. I have the top buckle done up loosely. Same with the booster strap. Two times out with them and I'm riding like crap. Both times, I took insane misty flips when I hooked the nose. I think the ski boots don't like my forward, low riding style. I definitely ride in a crouch and drive my weight forward to initiate a turn. Any tips here? Do I need to mod these boots? Change my style of riding? Ditch them altogether?
  16. Just wondering, what are typical angles for freeriding in softies? I mean for the hardbooting crowd that moves over occasionally to softies. I'm running 28/20 and I'm wondering if that's a bit too steep.
  17. dhong and thor: Those aren't boards I'm particularly interested in but thanks.
  18. You could be right Boris but both boards have a lot of taper and from what I recall the 4807 didn't. I'm not dissing on the 4807. I think in deep snow, it would offer a nice surfy ride but I just had a lot of trouble getting it up on edge. Demo'd a Dupraz and it was easy to carve.
  19. Two options for boots: - buy used knowing full well that there's at least a 50% chance you won't like them. Then you have to unload them. Not hard but still a hassle. - buy new from YYZCanuck. He will give you great fitting advice and you will end up with a boot that will last you for years with no regrets. I sent you an email. I have a spare pair of 27.5 Raichle boots that fit me perfectly and I am a 10-10.5 street shoe. You are welcome to try them out and borrow them for a weekend.
  20. I just acquired a 2004 Coiler 184 Pure Race. 6.8 flex number. Non-metal. Base and edges in great shape. Minor scratches on the top sheet. Geared to a 180lb-ish rider. I realize now that I need a soft-boot powder board more. Throw me some trade offers. Dupraz, Prior Spearhead, NeverSummer Summit, Tankers, Steepwaters - that kind of thing. No mega-wide boat shapes like 4807s. Tried one, didn't like it.
  21. Our sport continues to enjoy its once-every-four-years moment in the spotlight. If you can, grab today's copy of the Globe and Mail. The first two pages of the Vancouver 2010 section are dominated by articles on Jasey Jay and Matt Morison. It seems to me that the Canadian media has really latched onto alpine snowboarding as big medal hope for Canada. Here's the online copy but the print version is much more impressive. http://www.ctvolympics.ca/snowboard/index.html
  22. Sent you email. I'm in Toronto. Could meet up to save the shipping. I just can't pass up sweet gear like that so close to home.
  23. The corporate equivalent to "The cheque is in the mail". INTRAWEST COMMENTS ON INACCURATE MEDIA REPORTS VANCOUVER, BC. – January 20, 2010 – There have been inaccurate and misleading media reports surrounding Intrawest today. Fortress Investment Group continues to own and control Intrawest and all of its properties. Serious discussions with Intrawest’s lenders are ongoing regarding refinancing and the Company continues to operate “business as usual” at all of its resort properties. Intrawest is looking forward to the success of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. For further information, contact Ian Galbraith, Corporate Communications at Intrawest (604) 695-8317 or igalbraith@intrawest.com
  24. I don't think it's any coincidence that they timed the auction for the middle of the Olympics. Better to draw attention and put pressure on Intrawest. Allee, it's not like they missed a credit card or car payment. The payment they missed in December was $524-million. USD.
