  1. We do have a few who ride at Mtn. High quite often. They will usually post on the ride board, so keep an eye on it as Aaron suggests. Can't wait to see every one on the hill again! I might even make this event this time. Crossing my fingers ....
  2. Reasonably good spring like conditions. Hard for first 3 runs or so, then softening. Front stayed good till almost 11:00. Had to leave then (lots of work calling my name at home!), but I bet chair 7 would still have been good for at least another hour or more. Fun day of carving. Air temp when leaving at 11:30 was just hitting 50. Snow coverage is still very good. Just don't stray too close to the edges. Also look out for the CHP's. They were out in force today. They are very fond of issuing tickets for lazy drivers crossing the double yellow lines. They like to hang out by the last corner just before the dam, and catch drivers cutting the corner. Be careful, you have been warned..... : )
  3. This is getting close to the end, any one else contemplating for Thursday? Sounds like maybe Aaron, Hopster, and myself.
  4. My family and I will be up Wednesday. Expect awesome conditions. Anyone else likely?
  5. My wife Linda, Hopster, and I, will be heading up this Thursday. Aaron (oldvolvolsrule) is also contemplating. Anyone else? Also be aware that Hwy 330 may be closed during the day on the 29th and 1st, so check before you dive up and be prepared to use alternate routes.
  6. The Snow Summit Ski Patrol will be hosting the annual ski with the patrol for a day on Saturday, March 3. Free lift ticket, and lunch will be provided. If you are interested, contact: Dave Nelson E-mail at: iwant2patrol@gmail.com They only have so many spots open, so if you are interested at all, I would contact him soon. Love to see more of my brother carvers on the patrol!
  7. Have fun! Should be very good for you. I will be up this weekend, but I will be walking around in the back country finishing up my avalanche course.
  8. Now through the end of January SS is offering a 50% discount to you if you have a season pass at another resort. Bring it to guest services for your discount. Valid Sunday through Friday non-holiday till the end of January.
  9. Great pics! I am so bummed that I missed it. It sure seems as though the so cal contingent is growing! Happy to see it.
  10. Man, sure seems like I spend my whole winter training! I will be forced to miss this weekend due to patrol training over at Snow Valley. I won't even be at the same resort as you guys! Totally unfair. Next year .....
  11. I can answer for Summit! I patrol there, so I see it in all conditions. Once the season is actually started, it is a great place to ride. We do typically ride more in the mornings as the grooming is good and conditions are more friendly for us. Snow is usually hard pack that will hold a good edge, followed by a softening that becomes very fun to ride for a few hours. By the afternoon, things will typically get too soft to hold a firm edge, and our legs are usually toast anyway. So most of us will leave the hill by 1:00, or so. As the season progresses, and we move towards spring, the morning conditions will become more likely to be very hard in the mornings, followed by a much smaller window of very carveable snow for a few hours. Still fun, just more challenging. Really, if you are carving the hill hard, you won't last much past noon anyway. Your legs will simply give out. There are also far fewer people there at opening, thus decreasing the potential for collisions with other skiers/boarders. Not sure how much jumping I would do in hard boots in the park. Our interface is stiffer, and not as forgiving as a soft setup. I am sure you could do it, you wold just have to be a more technical rider. Be sure you can do 360 degree spins both directions at a moments notice, so you can spin out of a bad landing, rather than just going down. We are a very friendly crowd at Summit. Anyone in hard boots will be happy to help you make the transition when you are ready. There is generally equipment available if you ask for it early. Boots are the most difficult to find, but put up your boot size ant we will see what can be done.
  12. Just talked to Daniel at Goldsiths in Big Bear. They now have a wintersteiger stone grinder and a tek from Alpine sports who used to do the tunes over there, and a tek from bear mountain, who was their go to guy for stone grinding. Looks like we may once again have a local source for stone grinds! Daniel says to give them a few weeks to finish calibrating before they will be ready to take any boards.
  13. Glad they work for you! They were just collecting dust here, always nice to see the equipment get used. Look forward to seeing you up at the resorts next year.
  14. Will e-mail you now with contact info.
  15. Hey guys, I have a pair of size 26 09/10 Track 700T with the red thermo liners that I had the toe box pushed out. Between the liner, and the larger toe box, I think that wold work out for a half size. They have been molded twice. Looking for about 350.00 for them.
  16. Corrected the quote. Can't believe I missed that! Guess I should read what I type just a little more carefully. Definitely in need of a new avatar. That one is quite out of date. It will be one of my goals for the next time I get a chance to ride!
  17. I will add my name to the list of people who are happy to have met and carved with John. He really seems to be a master at diagnosing problems and giving very specific instructions on how to overcome them. We only had a very short time to ride together, but it was time very well spent. I only wish we could have done this at the beginning of the season rather than the last day of the season! Maybe I will have to slip up to June before it closes ..... :biggthump:biggthump
  18. Maybe that is why he has some one on tail rope. Wonder if the rope to the chain break was broken, but no one noticed when they brought the toboggan. That slope doesn't look all that steep or icy to warrant a tail rope in the picture, but I guess we don't know what is below them!
  19. Most of us are using Hwy 38 out of Redlands. It is only a few more exits farther than the 210 turn off that takes you to the 330. I think it is 3 more exits. There are signs on the 10 fwy to help out. It is a longer route. But lots of it is very easy driving. Just beware of the deep shaded corners. They often are wet/icy/slipery, even when the pavement on both sides of them is dry. It is not unusual to have miles of clear pavement, then suddenly find yourself on ice. Be particularly careful of the corners in the first few miles heading out of Angelous Oaks. I have seen two vehicles flipped there in the last month.
  20. I will be there, but in red. Its a patrol weekend for me. I will try to get assigned to chair 7, so I can hang with you guys a little.:D
  21. Might be able to help you out. I have a set of 2010 Deluxe Track 700T size 26 that I might be getting rid of to go back to size 27. Going down a size was an experiment at the end of last season, that just has not gone well for me. Have red liners that have been molded twice. Probably asking 350, when the time comes.
  22. Welcome! Glad to have another convert. Look forward to having you ride with us!
  23. I'd be happy to help you with the spins. I believe that I will be up again on Thursday this week. It is an incredibly useful skill. It is way better to spin out of trouble, than just going down when some thing goes wrong. Especially when you ride switch. I would love to be able to carve switch, but right now, I'm just happy to be able to link turns that way!
  24. Glad to hear you are making progress! Would love to ride with you over at Summit when you are ready.
