  1. Wood is a funny material in some ways. It can lose it's bend over time, depending on the conditions of the area that it's in. This solution seemed like a good one. Aside from that, it cleaned up some of the clutter, which my wife liked.

    Newbie!

That Catek looks like a solid binding. If I ever get softies, that'll be a likely candidate.
  3. Since I put up the rack, I checked on the angles my bindings had been set. No wonder I'd been having trouble! My toes and heels were overhanging the edges. I went ahead and fixed it today in case I decide to take one of the old boards out for a spin this winter. They're now 55 in front and 50 in back. Sheesh. Wish I'd had someone to tell me how to set these up years ago. Thank goodness for this board! Can't wait for snow!!!
  4. Cast saws don't spin. They vibrate. As such, they won't do any damage to skin. I've had more than a few casts cut off
  5. I got tired of seeing the skis and boards in the corners of my bedroom. I know having them lean in the corner isn't the best thing for the camber, I built a rack and hung it up on the wall over my wife's dresser. It's made of a 2x4x8 (cut in half) and 3/4 inch dowel. Still have room for 3 more boards!
  6. Oh, the author of "More Guns, Less Crime" is John Lott. He started out as an anti, trying to prove the exact opposite of what he ended up showing. After doing the research, he changed his opinion as that's what the data showed. Many have tried to disprove his findings and to date no one has been successful. It's an good read for anyone that's interested in the facts of the debate.
  7. Wow. Talk about thread drift! It sure has been interesting reading. I certainly agree that if you are going to carry, then you need to practice. You also need to be very familiar with the laws regarding the use of the firearm in your state. As well as laws regarding where and how to carry. I would suggest that after you select and buy your firearm, spend a lot of time practicing. I would also encourage you to do some competitive shooting. If nothing else, you'll learn to shoot when you need to, not just when you want to. It's a good skill to have. I shoot Cowboy Action, USPSA, and Steel Challenge. I'm reasonably proficient and trust my training. Anyway, shooting is a lot of fun and can certainly be a safe family activity. My kids have been to the range with me for various matches and we practice safe handling at home. Good luck with the coyote's. I hope you find a solution that makes you comfortable and keeps you and yours safe. That said, I can't wait for the snow!
  8. The day I took off the end of the little finger on my left hand, I could have used it!
  9. I wanna go I wanna go I wanna go! Right now, the issue is convincing my wife. If someone from NorCal or the Tahoe area wanted to ride with me and split gas and a room, I might be able to manage it! Please contact me if you are interested. Joel
  10. I got the latest intuition liners. The fitter checked my cork insoles and decided that they still fit correctly. So it was a matter of doing the insoles. Nothing on the boots needed blowing out, so that was good. Incidentally, each liner weighed nearly a pound less than the stock liners from the boots. That weight savings should help a lot!
  11. No, not riding yet. But it's really obvious from the significant improvement in fit that I'll have better control. The amount of slop that was in the boot is gone. There is none now. I'm really amazed at the change.
  12. If you're thinking about having a bootfitter setup a pair of those moldable liners, do it! I visited one today in Tahoe and he set me up. What a difference! The boots are much more comfortable, better control, and he even put in one of those straps at the top that acts like a 5th buckle. Talk about stiff! Well worth the trip up and the $$. Joel
  13. I prefer bails. I just don't feel as secure with step ins. No idea why. I'm sure it's in my head. Joel
  14. I've made an appt with a boot fitter for Friday. I'll stick with what I have and go from there. Thanks!

    Tattoo's

I recently got my first tattoo. Any of you been inked?
  16. Fly fishing for trout, yes! I finally got out some this year and had a great time. It was fun for my son too (he was 4 at the time). He was able to hold one of the little rainbows I caught. I also have a tattoo on my right bicep of a waterfall/stream/rocks with a brook trout figured prominantly. One of these days I'll get a picture of it. Joel
  17. I'm certainly not that light. I weigh about 185/190. At least I didn't need any new clothes this year. My board pants from '98 still fit just fine, as does my coat. Gloves, goggles, and helmet are ok too. Maybe new boots into the season. Have to see how these do. Thanks for the suggestions.
  18. That was my thought as well. Thanks! I'll stick with these, but get to a fitter to make sure that all's well. I'm sure more can be done to improve the fit. After plunking down the $$ for a Donek and TD2's (and a season pass soon), I"m feeling a bit impovershed Joel
  19. Pardon the newbie type question.... I have a pair of Raichle SB225's. They fit well, especially since I had some insoles made up. Anyway, since I ordered a new board and bindings, ought I look at new boots too? Or are these boots going to perform well? If they're going to be fine, I'll get to a bootfitter to make sure that they are fit correctly. If I ought to be looking at new boots, I'm open to suggestions! Thanks! Joel
  20. It might be just as simple as leverage. The farther your toes and heals are from the edge of the board, the more effort it will take to get on edge. Basically, the lever is shorter. When you get your toes and heals right to the edges, then the lever is longer and it's easier to move the board. Just a thought. Joel
  21. Thanks for the suggestions! I'll keep it open for the time being and decide in another week or two. Gotta go through my wife's work schedule to figure things out.
  22. Hi Ken. We're in Rancho Cordova. Where are you? Maybe we can hook up and save some gas money on day trips?
  23. Being new here, but also having been involved (and still involved) in some activities that have the potential for serious injury or death, a level of personal responsibility needs to be taken to help ensure correct operation of equipment. I'm very sorry to hear that this has happened and will endeavor to make future purchases of gear from Bomber. Not just because of the lawsuit, but also because of the service and support that they offer. This is a company that should be supported by the community. Good luck Fin (and the rest of the crew)! I hope it works out well. Please keep us updated. Joel
  24. As I posted earlier, I'm still fairly new to the area. We live right outside Sacramento and the Tahoe area is closest for local riding. Mt. Rose will be a little bit of a ride for me to get to for the weekly half day or so of riding. I've got a buddy that lives right near Heavenly, so I can meet him. But he's a skier and not in touch with the needs of a boarder. Nevertheless, it's certainly a consideration for me as it's less that a 2hr drive. So, does anyone have any suggestions for a local mountain that has good carving opportunities and also has some off-piste for powder? Thanks! Joel
  25. Yep, found my way to TC. Hope to get a chance to meet you this winter! If you come down this way to head to Tahoe, let me know.
