  1. only thing is, I didnt say "Gleb, I think you should be physically harmed for being (in my opinion) an AH on this particular topic"

Personally attacking someone with words is okay though? It certainly seeems like an undeserved and overboard response due to a lack of tolerance of someone else's opinion. Other people here, including myself, also disagree with Gleb, but have not resorted to personal attacks.

Let me quote you from this thread:

Check out Gleb, the fascist in training! Celebrate that authoritarian nature of yours, fella!

sad to see how brainwashed our youth are if Gleb is representative of them.

Gleb, dude...you seem cool as hell most of the time, but every time you post something I think you should go back to russia. America is NOT a fascist, controlling regime where we get ****ing ELECTROCUTED for having an opinion or even being an ******* about it. Your reverence for and celebration of aggressive authoritarian behavior is appalling.

It seems like our friend Gleb deserves better than these statements, even if he were resisting arrest like the guy in the video, not just offering an opinion on BOL that you dislike.

  2. Although he did want attention, I do not think he wanted attention in the manner he got. .

I doubt he thinks that the price was too high for all the attention he got. In my past I have know plenty of people fighting for their causes that would think that getting tazered by the cops and having that shown around the world was a great thing and completely worth it.

  3. It is SO hard to preach tolerance by being intolerant of other people's opinions. Gleb, you are absolutely entitled to your opinion, but I am certainly not giving you a tazer. ;)

The guy was certainly being a problem and he was certainly resisting arrest. It is ridiculous, however, that 5 or 6 cops felt the need to use a tazer on him. A little patience on the part of the police would have gone a long way in that situation. Ultimately, by getting tazered, the kid got EXACTLY what he wanted - attention, and lots of it.

  4. This website is great and an incredible asset for the hardbooting community. What and how I ride is definitely influenced by things I read on Bomber. When we first started snowboarding (standard soft boot set up) a few years ago, we were typing "snowboard carve" into google trying to get any info we could about how to carve a snowboard. Little did we know that by the end of our first season, we would be spending our first few days on hardboots.

The thing that I am most amazed by is the incredibly wide range of opinions about gear and technique possible in such a small niche market. Taking advice from others is really about figuring out who seems to offer the best advice for you and following that.

  5. Wow, that sucks.

Sounds like a survey or a trip to the records office in your area might be in order so you can locate the official property line.

Have you met the dog(s)? Many dogs can be extremely rough on the landscape by destroying plants, digging holes, and making muddy areas. Dogs can also be aggressive and territorial. Hopefully these are not the cases.

The wires of the shock collar pet control systems are usually quite shallow. I do not expect the apple trees to suffer any damage.

    Best of luck.

  6. Put them at any angle and someone will say that that is where they go! :biggthump

For softboots, my angles change quite a bit depending on what I am doing and what board I am riding. Toe and heel overhang are something to consider, but soft bindings (with highbacks) are not designed to be run at too high of angles, so you cannot usually eliminate it. Some people use riser plates since booting out on a great turn is quite frustrating.

I found as my technique evolves, different angles feel better or worse, so I am always trying different angles. Luckily softboot bindings are pretty easy to move.

    Have fun experimenting!

  7. Hard to surf daily up here in Oregon with our fickle weather and swell conditions, but we have been getting 2 to 4 sessions in a week. Nice stuff. Usually just Rebecca and myself, sometimes with 1 or 2 other surfers in the water. Newport has some decent surfing areas. We are currently working and playing in the Coos Bay area.

If you have any questions about the Oregon coast Joel, PM me. We have spent a good bit of time surfing up and down it over the last few years. Oh yeah, (disclaimer) it is COLD, FICKLE, and SHARKY!

  8. Hell, I beat myself up on a daily basis in snowboard season. Guess you wimps aren't trying hard enough.

I think there is way, way too much testosterone on this thread. Or maybe just too much stupidity. I'm stil deciding which...

    Hmmm.....

  9. Both are true

    Scott, what he said.

Though the woman might be a little over four feet ;), and the board is definitely over 8 feet.

being ridden on its first day (thanks to oldsnowboards for the video). Although, there is now a longer one.
  10. Yeah, I think I'd like the stiffer 176 Prior Powstick compared to my soft 178 Nitro Powder Gun. The 178 seems to ride as short as my 156 HD Burton Fish, so a 176 Prior may be what I am looking for. I have a 165 Prior Khyber which feels a little long for trees. It is my go-to board for pow...but a SWT has great lift in the nose and flows rail-to-rail without feeling like it is all nose. I'll try refried and AL.

The Spearhead looks like the Dupraz. There is a lot of taper on the Spearhead too. Combine that with a narrow nose?...seems like it would ride short and loose. Kind of retro.

I have ridden the 165 Khyber and felt it was too big for me, the 160 feels just right. The 176 Powstick rides sort of between the two and definitely bigger than the 05/06 Fish, but as you mention, has a much different feel. It might be just what you need. :biggthump

  11. Hey Jim,

I have the 07 176 Powstick and I have bought, but not ridden the 166 Spearhead. I do not know how the Nitro rides. Refried broke the nose on a newer Powstick in heavy powder, so, if he does not chime in, you might PM him. I do not know his weight or riding style, but he has a fine quiver of swallow tails and might provide some good info. His post is here.

The Powstick nose is soft. It provides great float at low speeds. I always end up in some trees and find the Powstick quick turning and agile, but probably not the best for blasting open powder bowls. I like lots of turns in the soft stuff and it works really well for me. I have not ridden it in heavy powder yet. I have ridden a Rossi Undertaker 185 and I felt like it needed a lot more speed to really run than the Powstick and wanted to make much bigger turns.

Hand flexing the Spearhead says that it is stiffer all around. It also has a shorter nose than the Powstick. I am looking very forward to trying it. I expect, obviously, it will ride somewhere between my 160 Khyber (which I enjoy very much) and the Powstick. Oh yeah, I am a light weight at 145.

    Good luck, Buell

  12. save your money and keep what you have, once you get into the credit circle, sometimes it is hard to get out.... sure it sounds sweet now to get all the cool stuff, but when it comes time to pay, watch out, the payments will be a real pain in the ass . Then you get more stuff, then more etc, pretty soon you will be using cards to pay off other cards.

I am with xxguitarist and Fleaman on this one. It might not be the deal you think it is, if you do not have the cash to back it up.

  13. Surf's coming your way! Gabrielle

Aisling, bigger is better for a beginner board. It is the opposite of snowboards. The smaller the surf board, the more speed it requires to be stable. One of the important things you need to learn in surfing is how to get speed from the wave and the larger board will provide the stable platform you need at slow speeds while you are learning (you will have more fun). A nine foot board is certainly not too large and will always be good to have when the swell is small and weak.

    Enjoy, Buell

  14. Hey bjvircks,

You didn't mention your condition so hopefully you are okay. A totaled Volvo does not sound like a pleasant experience. It is at least nice that the lowlife had insurance you could access.

Some people like to drive and love their cars, but for me, vehicles are just expensive necessities. I think an expensive car and a POS will both set you back the most money and/or time (money). I like the middle ground. I am on my fourth Toyota truck. The last one was sold at 175K and it was doing great. We currently have a Tacoma and a Tundra. If I didn't need the trucks for our company though, I expect we would be a two bike, one AWD wagon with a roof box (or two :D) family.

  15. I own last year's 176 Powstick and several other non swallowtail powder specific boards. I would definitely say that the Powstick is a unique ride (Very different from the Rossi Undertaker). Rebecca likes it so much that it is now "our" board. As Jon is saying, the Spearhead is certainly not one to be overlooked for powder, but you've got to follow your own insticts in choosing a board (or buy both :biggthump). I am axiously awaiting some fresh stuff so I can try out my new Spearhead. Good luck.
